Over 11k Views! So a special treat - Xevious ( Retro Shoot em up Remake )

When I checked the site today to do another article I was so pleased to see that my site had achieved a milestone of over 11k views. When I first created this website my goal was to give you the latest and best possible Indie / Retro news available on the internet. Although I have a lot of experience in games journalism I never expected my website to generate that many hits in such a short period of time, some of the bigger articles especially kickstarters generate nearly 200 views or more from just that one contribution. However it doesn't all just come down to just me, we have two big helpers on the site at the moment and we are aiming for more soon.

James C ( awesome admin tech guy ) both have really helped push this site even further forward, so once those interviews and reviews start coming in, expect this site to hopefully become even more popular. If you would like to contribute in any way and help out on the website contact me at admin@indieretronews.com. We'd also love for someone to do short game play youtube Talk-Throughs of old retro games!

Now onto the game itself " Xevious "

Will it be the Amstrad, the Spectrum, Atari, the Amiga or some other ass kicking gaming machine!

Eternal Champions - The Thin Strings of Fate (Free Full Game)

Eternal Champions - The Thin Strings of Fate was developed using an open source engine called OpenBOR which is basically the open source continuations of Beats of Rage. This excellent game is a throw back to the days of the side scrolling beat em ups from the Mega Drive and arcade machines we used to play and love.

Radio Amiga - Daily Remix ( Vol 1 )

It's a Sunday which means slow news day, sometimes I do like a good slow news day so I can put more time in with my games. But we do have a few more treats today no keys though sorry :(, but until that time enjoy a music remix compilation called Radio Amiga.

Hello everyone, I am John P Martin, and this is my first article on Indie Retro News, I hope you will enjoy it!

The best way to describe limit theory would be to say that it is a game with very few limits put on the player. Everything you can see in the game is procedurally generated by the games custom built game engine. The universe is unlimited in size, and if you can see something which interests you, you can go there and interact with it. The game is all about interaction and the unique story which is unfolding as you explore and experience the vast procedurally generated universe within it.

I woke up this morning and saw Dizzy appear on kickstarter and my heart nearly missed a beat, this game is so close to my heart I could almost say I grew up on Dizzy. Dizzy fast became one of the most successful European computer game brands of the late 1980s into the 1990's. But what is this game called, well it's called Dizzy Returns and it's using today's technology.

In the year 2350, human deep space probes discovered a mysterious cloaked star system with planets filled with advanced technology. As the galaxy's empires argued over ownership of the planets, their ancient inhabitants awoke from suspended animation and began exterminating all life in the galaxy. Star by star, the empires crumbled, every inhabited world reduced to irradiated rubble.

Refugees from dozens of races joined forces for one final attack on the enemy homeworld. They planned to use the alien's own technology to freeze the entire solar system in time, but nature had plans of its own. Ruptures in space-time opened throughout the system, pitching ships back through time and scattering them throughout the galaxy.

What's coming in this patch:

Ultima Underworld – The Stygian Abyss ( Pc Gamer Article )

The news keeps on coming and it's past 1am, I'll need my sleep soon but what the heck this game is worthy of posting and it's the great Ultima Underworld - The Stygian Abyss !. Pc Gamer have just done a rather nice article on this great RPG classic, which was published by Origin Systems in 1992 and sold nearly 500,000 units.

So check out this short quote then head over there have a read and relive those memories!

For me, then, Underworld is almost the perfect RPG – control issues notwithstanding. It has influenced, directly and indirectly, the Elder Scrolls series, the Deus Ex games, Half-Life 2, System Shock (Warren Spector was the game’s later producer), BioShock, Tomb Raider and frankly just about every 3D RPG that has since appeared.

My money is ready to be spent for all those awesome Indie Games!, bring em on!

Hero U - Turn-based PC RPG/ADVENTURE from the creators of the Quest for Glory series

Another Successful kickstarter already today and this time it's Hero U : Rogue to Redemption, from the creators of the Quest for glory series, one of my all time favorite Adventure game series. Unlike Quest for Glory which was an adventure game with some RPG elements, Hero U is a Turn Based PC RPG but still retaining that awesome Adventure flavor.  There will be a Classic adventure of game characters, story, and puzzles, with the exploration and deep skill development of an RPG. The story apparently will be so deep it will change based on the way you play in the game.

Tiny Barbarian DX - 2D Action Platformer + Kickstarter

Another day another kickstarter and this time it's Tiny Barbarian DX. A 2D Action Platformer game with a Tiny Barbarian, who likes to slice and dice with his sword and ride deadly beasts into battle. The game now has a much improved combat system over the original TB that makes juggling enemies a breeze, they can even be knocked into each other for extra damage. Your character has a number of new moves to attack enemies from within a different direction. The platform basics are pretty simple but so much fun, even the edges of platforms can be grabbed in case you miss a jump.

Nvidia GeForce 310.61 Beta Display Drivers

Although not strictly Indie/Retro related, you will need the latest drivers in most situations for games. Be warned these are not the WHQL Nvidia drivers but Beta's which means they may contain problems or be perfectly fine as is the way with Beta's.

Nearly 7300 viewers! - Website/Blog Feedback / Staff wanted

As the site is nearly hitting the 7300 view count which I'm incredibly grateful for, thank you readers!. Though we need your feedback, tell us in comments what would you like to see more of on the blog/website?, What's your favorite Genre in the listings?, Are you happy with the content in the posts is it too much info or would you prefer less?, anything just tell us.

We had over 140 views of the Star Citizen article which was pretty impressive, but reading your comments to articles really makes it all the worth while, as long as it's not too bad ;) so please get involved, be a part of the website/blog.

Also this site is still looking for news contributors, daily deal posters and reviewers. We have a set rules and regulations for new members but that's mainly as security protection, a sample of a review also needs to be sent because I'm sure our members wouldn't like to see terrible spelling and or swearing for example. As for news contributions all you have to do is get the latest release information, write up a small article doesn't have to be much at all but with pictures and perhaps a video as long as it's new. Daily Deal posters just need to look up the latest deals ££££ that's either retro or Indie games and post them, it's that simple.

So if you got what it takes and want to be part of a great community of gamers you are more than welcome to join the team, we need more people like you.

Thanks

There is not much to go on at the moment as it's still very much in development, however sufficed to say there will be a lot of exploring involved and have a Zelda feel to it with a hint of Minecraft

Star Citizen / Squadron 42 - Space Sim/Combat/Trader : (The History Then and Now)

Good morning viewers today we have a big article about Star Citizen/Squadron 42 and the comparisons between the Wing Commander series and now. Star Citizen/Squadron 42 is being developed by the Legendary Chris Roberts the developer of Wing Commander, Strike Commander and the concept behind Privateer. The Wing Commander series were truly Epic games for there time and still highly regarded today, especially when the live action FMV's came into play and far higher graphical possibilities.  I remember playing Wing Commander 1 in the very early 90's on my Amiga 500 it was so involved, you felt very much in the story and a love and respect for all the characters in the game let alone the combat gameplay!.

Quest for Infamy - Adventure from the creators of the kings quest remakes ( DEMO )

Another late evening news article before I go on my nightly bandit killings online, it's the fantastic retro looking Adventure title, Quest for Infamy. Does anyone remember the Kings Quest III or Space Quest 2 remakes, well this game is from those guys and they are Infamous Quests. A very talented bunch who spent a lot of their time creating fantastic remakes of our well loved Adventure titles from the past gone days of Sierra. Quest for Infamy was recently on Kickstarter and was met with a great reception from the fans and it was a huge success raising $63,281!.
