If you love shoot 'em ups, especially in a style that appeared on the Amiga or the Megadrive, then you might be interested to know of "Gryphon Knight", which is currently going through a Kickstarter campaign. Gryphon Knight Epic, developed by Cyber Rhino Studios, is a 2D Medieval shoot 'em up that mixes elements from classic shoot’em ups, exploration and duel-like boss battles.
Telling the the story of Sir Oliver and Áquila, an accomplished knight and his loyal gryphon, Gryphon Knight Epic will feature cool additions that could make this an impressively fun shoot em up. Features such as 6 hand crafted levels, multiple paths, numerously large bosses, different weapon styles, magical companions, power ups (Artifacts) and the ability to traverse the stage in different directions.
The developers also sent us a preview build and I can confirm it certainly does stand up to the better shoot 'em ups of the past. With lovely moving backgrounds, very creative enemies, cool weaponry and big bosses this is a lot of fun. My only critique that I had of my short play through was the difficulty level with the amount of swarms, sometimes your own character is too big and too slow you don't get enough time to avoid certain enemy attacks. That's the only thing I found disappointing, everything else was brill!
