The Micro Museum - Possibly the best retro gaming place in Kent!

Usually on a Saturday I can be found spending time with my family, walking the shops, going to the arcades or just generally doing family type things. But today I was to come across a place that I'd class as the golden crown of retro gaming in a town called Ramsgate, in the county of Kent. Welcome to 'The Micro Museum' - The Museum of Vintage Computers, Games and Micro Electronics run by Mike and Carol Deer.

The Micro Museum is a huge collection of devices ranging from the 1940's to the year 2000 but the focus being on the 1970's, 80's and 90's when computers were changed forever from being tools used solely by scientists and academics to becoming an invaluable part of everyday life for everyone. Pretty much every system you could think of is shown with listed information about the date of release, who created it and even a history lesson about the golden ages of development.

Lots of systems were playable on each side, ranging from the Playstation to the N64, however they were switched off which is a shame, but by request, the owner could easily turn them on for you allowing you to relive a bit of our gaming history. I was especially interested in the first cabinets as many of the ZX Spectrum's were shown from the ZX81 to the ZX Spectrum 128k, even the ToastRack! But for those of you who were not into the ZX Spectrum, you could even see the Amstrad CPC 464 or the C64 historic line up.

But what really caught my eye was the huge amount of systems at the back, ranging from the very early commodores used in the cold war, to the Commodore SX-64, Amstrad CPC 6128 plus and Jaguar. It was as if the god of retro gaming had shown his hand!

On the other side were even more computers to play and showcasted, but again my eye was drawn to more awesome retro related hardware. A Commodore 128, an Amiga 500/1200, an Amstrad CPC 464 plus and more! I seriously could not get enough of this place, why did nobody tell me about it? Why was this retro gaming haul hidden away on some side street?

Here she is, a right beauty! A clean pristine Amiga 1200

I could go on and on but this place was just incredible, there wasn't just computers either, but handhelds, joysticks, merchandise, quizzes and high score competitions for kids. Yet through all of this the owners were especially helpful, especially Mike and his amazing collection, who had plenty of knowledge to share and try as he might he couldn't get me to play any games ;). I was too busy jaw dropping at the systems behind the glass cabinets.

So what are you waiting for? Come down to Ramsgate between 1pm and 4pm, pay the £2 entry (Adults) £1.50 children and let Mike give you a guided tour around this incredible retro gaming museum. ( If you do visit, let them know Neil of IndieRetroNews gave you the heads up )
