Latest 2016 SEUCK Compo Entry - Border Blast 3 Review

2016 wasn't all bad news and Brexit... Commodore 64 saw some of its finest releases with the likes of Barnsley Badger, Tiger Claw, and The Bear Essentials giving all of us plenty of reasons to fire up our hardware and emulators. And even those without coding experience are able to get involved, as The New Dimension have even been running another Shootemup Construction Kit (SEUCK) competition.

There are 7 entries so far, and the submission period will be closing 31st Jan. The newest entry is a pretty decent scrolling shootemup called Border Blast 3.  It features 1 or 2 players, very well drawn sprites, great explosion animations, multidirectional firing player and enemies. Huge boss fights, and a nice variety of level backdrop designs and enemy types like space ships, crawly things, purply eyeballs, great big flying ships with runways, which produce more space ships, tanks and nuclear blasts.

There is also a very good soundtrack composed by Richard Bayliss, and this is available in the game's title screen, or as a standalone .SID download from CSDB. This is definitely one of the favourites to win the competition, but we will have to wait and see. Enjoy!
