SKALD: Against the Black Priory - A dark fantasy game inspired by classic RPG's gets a Kickstarter [UPDATE]

In the 80's many of us had the pleasure of playing Ultima IV on the C64, it was arguably one of the best RPG's ever released for the Commodore and featured a top down playing field with lush landscapes, dungeons to explore, characters to traverse with and many enemies to fight. It was no wonder that many would class the 80's to the 90's as the golden age of RPG's and that's before the love of the first person dungeon crawler came to fruition. So now as a complete shock to us, Scape_IT has launched their PC Kickstarter for ' SKALD: Against the Black Priory '; a brand new RPG that not only looks amazing but takes us back to the golden age of RPG's.

According to Anders Lauridsen, SKALD: Against the Black Priory is a classic, turn-based RPG. It's set in a dark and gritty fantasy universe: full of tragic heroes, violent deaths and eldritch horror. If that wasn't enough to get you excited, the game is not only dark and deadly, but it has an immersive plot, inspired by legendary titles such as Ultima and the gold box series, and allows you to control and lead a party of upto six characters on an epic and perilous quest!

The game features:

  • Vintage graphics using the glorious Commodore 64 color palette
  • Complex level-based character development with abilities, skills and features
  • Grindless tactical combat
  • "Choose-your-own-adventure" system and  dynamic, tree based dialog.
  • highly interactive world with both scripted and systemic ways of interacting with the hundreds of NPCs, items, objects and plot points
  •  "choose-you-own-adventure sequences", combat, tile-based exploration and interaction with in-game systems.
  •  level-based character development with both numerical stats and special abilities
  • PC (Windows) first with releases for Mac and handheld devices down the line. NOTE: Backer rewards are PC only.
UPDATE : As of the 4th June, £6,426 has been pledged of a £6,359 goal, which makes this a Kickstarter success and still 28days to go!
