Neuromancer DOS - A classic game, a classic Cyberpunk review from Retro Freak Reviews!

If you’re reading this, thank you for taking some time off Cyberpunk 2077, which is probably the hottest game at the time of this review. Despite all the wait (and the controversies), I’m curious to see it lives up to the hype or not. Until then, why not take a look with us at a game based on the very beginnings of the cyberpunk genre? I’m talking about Neuromancer. Neuromancer is an adventure game developed by Interplay and published by Electronic Arts. It was released originally in 1988 for the Commodore 64 and Apple II computers and the following year for the Amiga, Apple IIgs and DOS.

Putter - A charming little Arcade platformer from Czorny gets an Amiga demo

Another heads up today, as thanks to Saberman and an update from the developer in the RedPill Game Creator group, we've been told Third_Knight aka Czorny, has released a demo for his in development Amiga game using the RedPill Software called 'Putter'. Although the game doesn't yet have a release date, this demo gives us an early glimpse of the game including a number of levels you can play through as a teaser to the full game.

Dread - Doom clone on the Amiga 500.... Part 3?

The Amiga news still isn't done with us yet, as after featuring games such as Scourge of the Underkind, and Super Metal Hero, here comes another Doom clone announcement update to keep you company. If you remember our previous article regarding the work in progress project by KK/Altair to bring Dread to the Amiga 500, which is a clone of DOOM. Then as of these last few months the creator has done another video tease but this time showing us The Intro, Menu and More.

Realms of Genthar - Upcoming EGA inspired Dungeon Crawler coming to a browser near you!

One of the best websites (other than ours ahem!) is Dan Thoresen's Dungeon Crawling website; a website that's chock full of great Dungeon Crawling info such as Eye of the Beholder, Lands of Lore, and even the top of the crop Dungeon Master. So it's with great excitement, considering it is coming from Dan himself, is the brand new game announcement of Realms of Genthar; an upcoming Dungeon Crawler that will be completely playable in a browser!

Parallaxian - A previously announced C64/C128 game gets a promo page tease

It was some time ago now that we mentioned Jonathan Woods 'Parallaxian'; A stunning "next generation" shoot-em-up-bomb-em-up game for the Commodore 64, which sadly at the time never reach its £12,500 goal, even though it did reach a half way point. Well fast forward to this month however and if you were still keen to play this game, will be pleased to know the creator has launched a promo page, a page which gives us an extra glimpse at this stunning new game in development for the Commodore 64 and The C64 and, in native mode, for the Commodore 128.

Wonderful Dizzy - An exclusive ZX Spectrum preview from Florinthedwarf

A new Dizzy game? That's 'wonderful' news!

Dizzy is back! Well almost, and he's almost back in 8-bit form and a format he is very familiar with - the ZX Spectrum. The last official Spectrum release for everyone's favorite egg was way back in 1992 in Crystal Kingdom Dizzy. A remake followed 25 years later which was released in 2017. As great as it was, a completely new game is what fans have been waiting for. As far as waits go, 28 years is a pretty long one so it's about time we got one, right? Well, that long long wait is nearly over, my excellent friends! I'm not one to make lots of easy egg jokes (honest) so don't expect to read any is this preview, ok?

Scourge of the Underkind (Amiga) - Exclusive video tease of this fantastic Chaos Engine inspired shooter!

During 2016 and into 2017 Wayne Ashworth and Magnus had been developing a new game called ' Scourge of the Underkind ' for 1 Meg OCS Amiga's and above. It was shown off many times as a rather wicked looking top down arcade action game with coin and key collection that is very similar to that classic game Chaos Engine. Well after a number of developments that have been noted via the Commodore Amiga Facebook group, we are here to reveal with an exclusive video, just how incredible the game looks thus far including new features.

Super Space Towers - A seriously cool modern 'Thrust' for PC and Consoles coming early 2021

One of the best Amstrad games I ever played with my dad, was the 1986 Firebird release of ' Thrust '. It was an extremely challenging vectored thrust game that required the best of your skills to tractor an orb out from underneath dangerous cave like landscapes. Most of your time was spent blasting power stations or avoiding smashing into rocks but the game kept you hooked! Now if you were also a fan of this great game, you'll be pleased to know that Happy Cactus Games are taking the classic Thrust into a new level of awesomeness in 'Super Space Towers'.

This incredible demake of 'DOOM' as POOM on the Pico-8 is mind blowing!

We've certainly seen some impressive projects through the years on retro hardware, for example showing how well Sam's Journey and Super Mario performed on a C64 was impressive enough. But now it looks as if we are about to go one step further. As thanks to a heads up from a good friend of ours on Twitter, we have seen an incredible demake of Doom running on the Pico-8 by the name of 'POOM'

A-PI 400 - A printed Amiga case for the Raspberry Pi 400?

Top case is resting on a box! ( First Print Prototype )

Over the years there's certainly been a surge in home made cases and internal changes to bring the Raspberry Pi into an almost seamless look giving us the impression we are playing on an old console. This all fused together with so many games through Pi Retro Emulation that no original console or games are needed. I mean seriously, if you didn't want a NES or SNES mini, you could buy a tiny NES case, bang a Raspberry Pi inside, add a few extra parts, install someone software, thousands of roms and you have your own emulation station running through a HDMI TV!

The latest Raycaster Engine for the TI 99/4a looks superb!

We try to feature as many old computers and consoles as possible, although our primary write ups revolve around the C64 and the like, sometimes there's a game development that catches our eye on a system we hardly ever feature. This is especially true of this latest news announcement, as if you've got a TI-99/4A which is a Texas Instruments Computer, you'll need to keep an eye on Rasmus Moustgaard's Raycaster Game Engine, as it's looking mighty impressive indeed.

Zombie Island - A work in progress or concept action platformer for the C64

While many of us are still waiting for the upcoming action platformer called Outrage which is soon to be released by Protovision, there's another game that might also be worth keeping an eye on although not to be released any time soon, and that's Marv's C64 game of 'Zombie Island'. This game which was recently mentioned on Twitter, is a very decent looking blaster that as of this moment is not only just a concept but also as some have picked up on could be inspired by the sprite from First Samurai.

Protopad - Crowd funding campaign for a new C64 game pad (Atari/Amiga Compatible)

Many of us have our own control preference when it comes to playing games on certain systems, some of us like playing with a GX4000 controller on an Amstrad, while others might prefer the clicky joystick of a Competition Pro on an Amiga. Thankfully Protovision might have you covered when it comes to the C64 however, as they are now running a crowd funding campaign for the Protopad; A new Joypad which might be the best C64 retro pad of all time that's 100% compatible with existing games and compatible with the Amiga and Atari.

Indie Retro News gives a BIG thumbs up to Protovision!

Ever since the beginning of Indie Retro News, we've always featured as many games as possible with time allowing, from both developers and publishers across the globe. It doesn't matter what system they are released on, from the Amstrad to the Amiga, and from the NES to the Sega Mega Drive, at some point they will be mentioned on this website much to the delight of the community. Thankfully one such Publisher always gets a mention as they did release some brilliant C64 games such as Wormhole, MW ULTRA and Neutron, so today we are pleased to announce we are officially supporting Protovision

Blastr - A simplistic yet enjoyable Atari XL/XE shooter

We've featured a lot of C64 and ZX Spectrum news this week, so to change all that, here's an Atari XL/XE game to keep you company, it's Dely's latest Atari game of 'Blastr'. This game developed using Mad Pascal, is a new shooting game in which you must blast away a specific amount of static enemies per level with a limited amount of lives.

Meonlawel - A beautiful C64/128 RPG is in development

The C64 news just keeps on coming, as if you thought The C64 Xmas Bundle and the Mini Multiplayer announcement wasn't enough to whet your appetite, then you'll be pleased to learn that there's a high quality RPG in development for the C64 called Meonlawel; a game set in the land of Meonlawel, dominated by vampyres, both animal and human, with a story of revenge and the rumours of an antitode and a great silver sword.

Mini Multiplayer RPG has been announced for the C64

Another C64 announcement of which RPG genre fans might enjoy reading about, is the fact that Darren Foulds has teased with a new screenshot and video, of his early in development game which he classes as a Mini Multiplayer RPG. Although the game doesn't have a name and development was on and off throughout 2019 and into 2020, Darren has said this MMMORPG is being written in 6510 Assembly for the Commodore 64 using Turbo Macro Pro (on the C64) for that real retro feeling.

C64 Xmas Bundle - A bundle of C64 games for Xmas and beyond!

Looking for a great bundle of games to play through Xmas or beyond, then make sure to check out this news announcement, as thanks to HayesMaker64 who contacted us previously, he has told us Badgerpunch Games has done a $5 bundle of games called ' The C64 Xmas Bundle '. This Xmas bonanza doesn't just feature games from Badgepunch themselves, but also Carleton Handley, Megastyle, MikeRichmond, RetroSouls, RGCD.DEV, SarahJaneAvory, Shallan and Space Moguls!

Outrage - After 30 years a fabulous 'Hawkeye' style game is coming to the C64!

Awesome news C64 owners, as we've just been informed through Twitter that if you've been waiting and waiting (some 30 years in fact) for the release of the Hawkeye inspiration of Outrage to come to the C64, then we are pleased to announce that Protovision / Psytronik will be soon be publishing the game as it is nearly complete. If you haven't heard of this game before, that's because it was originally produced by Cosmos Designs for the Boeder Talent Competition in cooperation with the 64'er magazine a long time ago, but it wasn't until Protovision and Psytronik got involved that they put every effort into finishing the game, without all the bugs and glitches and no source code.
