Eagerly awaited SNK vs CAPCOM for the C64 gets new footage and a demo update

Once again there's another C64 game that's well worth a mention, as thanks to Jon Eggelton and Saberman letting us know through our Indie Retro News Facebook group, we've been told that Jon Eggelton and Gianluca Alberico is not only still working on a new game for the C64 called 'SNK vs CAPCOM', which is using their RetroFighter game engine. But as of today you can see some new footage of the game in action, and there's a new demo for you to play as well all linked below.

Unlike before when we said that Retro Fighter is a new work in progress C64 versus fighting engine with new features implemented such as a new UI and colour selection for each player, intro sequences before the battle commences for each player, flaming hits and projectiles, special moves, and different battle arenas. What has changed since the first shout out is.... The game is not only called SNK vs CAPCOM, but you can play with 3 new fighters, fight in 2 new bonus rounds, there's a new tourney mode, new graphic effects and special moves, one and two buttons configurations and there's new intermission screens too! - Next release will hopefully include good music and sound effects.

  1. Will IK+ finally be supplanted as the best fighter on the C64?

  5. The C64 is too weak for this game, same as with many others like the new Sonic game. I salute the people doing it but it is a fool's errand - people need to learn to work within the confines of what the hardware allows, and IK+ is pretty much the limit here. This looks overly pixelated and messy, you can barely tell what is happening on screen most of the time. The C64 is not cut out for these ports because let's face it - the hardware does not allow it to look good.

    1. As someone whos owned Match of the Millennium on the NGPC i strongly dissagree. The graphics are very impressive and the SD character design suits the C64 perfectly. Ive been writing on Lemon about getting this game ported over to the C64 for years precisely because of this. Having played the demo i can objectively say that this is, hands down, the best beatem up on the system! It beats IK+ by a country mile. On another note I really loathe this defeatism. These kind of projects keep me interested in the retro scene the most; getting these type of arcade and console games. Its what me and many other dreamed of back in the day. The Magazine reviwers used to similarly pessimistic saying it the C64 wasnt designed for that. the Amiga isnt good at doing this sort of game etc. Im so glad that today (with a ton of perseverance, talent and imaginationn) that these types of games are finally being realised and the doubters proved wrong. P.s. I really dont get what youre saying about Sonic. That port was excellent too. I dunno. i think if noone pushed the limits of these systems we'd still be playing games like tooth invaders.

    3. "look good" is such an subjective claim isn't it. Does it look like the original ? Of course not. Does it look like a good C64 playable and fun port ? Yes of course it does. Bottom line, this is a good as it gets for the C64. I don't agree "it's messy" and the over pixelation is an expected result of such port when you need to trade graphics for "something else", you name it. I think it's superb to have such game for the C64. Kudos to the developer.

    4. This port is pure awesomeness, looks great, amazing soundtrack, plays fantastic also with 1 button.
We had TONs of obscene ports and we complain about this gem? No way!
