Toki C64 Remastered is in development, early footage shown!

Toki was and still is an awesome arcade shooter platformer that was released way back in 1989 by a designer by the name of Akira Sakuma for many different systems such as the NES, Sega Mega Drive, Atari Lynx, Atari ST, Amiga and Commodore 64. In it you played as an enhanced Ape transformed from a Human that could shoot energy balls from his mouth defeating strange creatures and finally an evil Wizard. Well If you remember this truly great game, you'll be pleased to know that at some point in the near future, you'll be able to play a remastered version which is in development for the C64!

Here is what the Facebook page linked (here) says about this latest footage shown of Toki C64 Remastered. "ARE YOU READY?!🤓EARLY FOOTAGE of #Toki C64 Remastered Level 1 !! This is a major breakthrough since after months of work we have been finally able to change sprite multicolors.  You'll notice there still are wrong colors and other glitches. In fact, we still have to find where individual sprite colors are specified in the code, as well as some sprite offsets that now need to be tweaked to accommodate the redrawn sprites. This is our focus now".

"Wish us luck!"

"PS.: If any experienced coder would like to join our team to help speed things up, they are more than welcome!"

    1. Our idea is to have music + SFX playing at the same time. This will come later in the dev cycle though

  5. Much better looking thant he original that i always found to be quite ugly in all honesty. Was never a fan of the mega blocky bosses in the game but im guessing thats something to do with the limitation of sprites? Personally id prefer to see a large monochrome hi res type bosses like the ones you find in Turrican. Not sure if that would be possible or if it would take much time to redraw? Anyways. Amazing job. Look forward to trying it.

    1. The only boss made of expanded (blocky) sprites is the GATE OF MOORNAH in mid level 1, regular bosses are made of 7-12 sprites which is fine actually, but they are generally very poorly drawn or colored. You can already see some redrawn bosses on the facebook page of the project: https://www.facebook.com/TokiC64Remastered

  9. For the zombie monkey, would a green face work with brown body? A fur of the color of A4's face on the Facebook page would be very close to the arcade original.
