Dig Dug Revival - Check out this rather cool homage to Dig Dug for the Commodore 64!

Remember those days when seaside resorts had many arcade games to play, from top down shoot 'em ups to nifty little platformers. If you do, then you'll be pleased to know that you can now download the rather cool homage to Dig Dug for the Commodore 64 called Dig Dug Revival by LC-Games. A game which the creator says isn't just a homage, but the playfields are generated randomly and works perfectly on both PAL and NTSC models. However, for game speeds similar to the original arcade game, it is suggested using an NTSC model.

In brief this is what the website says about the game "Dig Dug is a maze video game. Controlling the titular character, the player's objective is to eliminate the enemies on each screen; these being Pookas, red tomato-like creatures with comically large goggles, and Fygars, green dragons that can breathe fire. Dig Dug can defeat these enemies by using a bike pump to inflate them with air until they explode, or by crushing them under large falling rocks. Bonus points are awarded for squashing multiple enemies with a single rock, and dropping two rocks in a stage will cause a bonus item to appear in the middle of the screen, which can be eaten for points. Once all the enemies have been defeated, Dig Dug will progress to the next stage."

  2. Very impressive visually. It’s really cool to see homebrews come this close to the arcade on older hardware. There’s been a few lately. This one really does it well. The sprites and colors all look great.

  3. Great great great! Dig Dug is one of my favorite games since i was a little child. It brings back alot of good memories and this new version on the C64 plays really good. Here the aspect-ratio is correct, compared to the Arcade-version, even on PAL C64-computers. Only with that autogenerated levels i have little problems, because as a fan of the original Arcade-version, of course i am used to play the original levels one after the other and i miss them here, a little bit. But technically this port is very impressive.
