The Scorpion Engine is the best development tool for the Amiga, as not only can you create some pretty decent looking games, but unlike other software creation tools such as BackBone or RedPill they don't run at a snails pace on anything but a power house of an Amiga. Thankfully one such creator shows what could be possible, is msmalik681's previewed Street Fighter; a game which originally appeared on the Arcades, and was then ported to pretty much every system you could think of, including such systems as the Amiga (poorly), Atari St and even the ZX Spectrum.
Here's the latest from the EAB discussion thread. "So I really hated the conversion of Street Fighter on the Amiga. I think the original could have been much better even the C64 version had the special moves. I can not emphasize enough how bad the original was on the Amiga just play it and see. I am attempting to remake Street Fighter 1 for the a500 with 512kb of ram. Right now still adding functionality, need the cpu to be more aggressive, need to add player and enemy blocking and there some input bugs I need to iron out. Then I should be able to finish in no time. I hope to be finished early next year.".
And that's all we have about Street Fighter by msmalik681 and IM76(?) so far, but if you wish to try a very early preview, you can do so below :)

Interesting how gaming was limited due to memory or how advanced programming would be in the future. That’s what makes these homebrews so compelling.
ReplyDeleteThe Scorpion Engine has brought some really cool stuff to the Amiga. Looks great and runs smoothly.
This looks better than the arcade version!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! and with only 512kb of ram! Graphic seems alredy on par with the arcade..so why don't use the 512kb expansion to make this conversion even better?
ReplyDelete...I agree; very cool that it runs on 512k! But maybe the program could recognize 1mb machines and add more 'extras'. Not sure if this is an option within Scorpion Engine though.
ReplyDeleteYes needs 1mb
DeleteMay I suggest the same as the ongoing project for Bandai CD which enhanced the special moves control issue where they function like in Street Fighter 2, and they also added the character selection in which it's possible to play with all the characters including the opponents.
ReplyDeleteSomeone can share lha version, please?
ReplyDeleteAnother (great) game for "a500 with 512kb of ram"... WHY? Amiga was killed by poor/few AGA games in the past, no more on par with the competitors (of course you can't seriously compete with ECS and just 512KB)... And in 2023 still the same mistakes. Why nobody develops these new remakes/enhanced versions for AGA 2MB CHIP + 4/8MB FAST? Sigh...
