Toki C64 Remastered is still in development, new footage shown!

Toki was an awesome arcade shooter platformer that was released way back in 1989 by a designer by the name of Akira Sakuma for many different systems such as the NES, Sega Mega Drive, Atari Lynx, Atari ST, Amiga and Commodore 64. In it you played as an enhanced Ape transformed from a Human that could shoot energy balls from his mouth defeating strange creatures and finally an evil Wizard. Well If you remember this truly great game, you'll be pleased to know that at some point in the near future, you'll be able to play a remastered version which is still in development for the C64!

While we have mentioned Toki Remastered before much to the delight of the C64 community, here's what the Facebook page says about the very latest video posted above. "Watch the new TIMAGON in action! Complete with redrawn red-hot fire breath and flames. (Yes, that's not the new Toki sprite... yet.)" So yes this is one game we will be watching throughout developments and hope for a release at some point during 2024!

  1. When you compare it to the Amstrad version released recently it looks a bit drab and very very brown!

    1. Toki for the Amstrad is pretty amazing to be sure! So far I'd rate in order of excellence Toki (Amstrad), Toki (C64), Toki (ZX Spectrum). Although Toki C64 remastered is still being worked on and graphics improved over time. So will give it a chance :D

    3. That’s like comparing apples to oranges. And you forgot to notice the C64 version is much, much smoother.

    4. Its obvious as the previous comment already statedt you are comparing apples and oranges.CPC128k version is a whole new game which gives you all the freedom of the CPC6128 world to express your creativity ,while in the C64 case what they attempt are possible improvements a within a given old already established game which means a lot of restrictions and obstacles and without any kind of initial source code/original programmer tools .Additionally this c64 game case was known for increased difficulty to "operate"/crack because it was cartridge only and exceeded C64 64k memory constraints and thus when it was initially disc-cracked it was lacking music and so that raises the difficulty bar of improving it even more .By the way instead of the CPC carrotish-orange, the "very very brown" was inherited from the Coin op progenitor although it was surely a better and far more attractive looking brown than the irritating C64 one. To be fair the Amstrad CPC128k Toki port, is a game -in terms of Graphics - that even a new -from the ground - C64 port could not surpass. In terms of scrolling smoothness, gameplay fluidity and Music/Fx quality the C64 would probably got the upper hand (in this hypothetical scenario of a new -from the ground - C64 Toki port).

  2. I am really impressed with what people have achieved in past and yet we get even better stuff 30+ years later. Kinda missed out on C64 BITD and wish I'd bought one!

  5. The NES Toki is fantastic, Spectrum and Amstrad remastered are brilliant too, as good as NES. Hopefully this can reach that bar too

  6. looks very cool <3 even only new toki sprite would be enough for me, but everything else is just bonus :D this was very AAA release for c64, easily top 5 game specially platformer quality wise. Beat it without trainers and very top tier c64 game!
