Upcoming Chaos Engine for the C64 gets new early footage!

Chaos Engine from 1993 was an incredible game developed by the very famous Bitmap Brothers. A game that featured one or two players battling it out as a top down shooter genre against the evil creations of the titular Chaos Engine through four landscapes and a very decent set of weaponry! Well if you remember this fantastic game on the Amiga, Marvin Hardy has teased another video for the upcoming Chaos Engine game for the C64!

So far we still don't have much information to go on and if it's going to be turned into a full game, but here's the latest from the twitter feed which can be found linked above. " C64 'The Chaos Engine' - Updates this week include..  A little more progress.. CPU Player now firing and switching direction to enemies (removed BG collision on P2 until I figure the respawn when off screen). Score panel updated ready for P2 stats, and finally added some shooting recoil to player one, just like in the real versions :) #c64". And that's all we have so far, but as ever as soon as we know more we will of course let you all know.

  1. First videos I saw were quite a bit boring, but this here looks really promising! The music is great, I just miss some samples and/or shooting sounds...enough calc speed available for 2sid? Reu? :) Really looking forward for more

  3. Excellent but the colour contrast is too high and too bright. Make it look slightly darker 👍

    1. its vice emulator which has been destroying c64 colors from version 2.4 to current release. It has been total garbage emulator for last 12 years, its funny how artists makes huge effort to games and shows off the game with vice. Cant be real c64 fan to suggest using that emulator, c64 deep colors but rare knows that.

    2. VICE allows you to choose your own palette, so I don't really understand what you mean by "destroying C64 colours". I don't really like the default palette they use, but it's easy to choose another predefined or make your own.

  4. Please just native C64 Support first. Samples like ‚Zone activated‘ would be cool and I am sure they are on the todo list. The Bitmap Brothers will look envious

  5. Very cool! To be honest, I did not believe, that they would get anywhere. Because recreating The Chaos Engine on C64 is such a heap of work! But this looks very promising. Lets see what they can accomplish in the future. I would pay for a C64 Chaos Engine version!
