Looking through the EAB forums to see if any games were worth talking about, that's either in development or newly released, and I've come across an upcoming Amiga game called 'The Gate' by Allanon. A game that the developer says, "is an action-adventure, that is highly inspired by Impossible Mission and Project Firestart". The game when finished, will have 64 Color graphics (EHB), a dynamic dialogue system, interactive Terminals, puzzles, a huge map, an engaging story, equippable devices, and enemies & bosses (each with their own brain scripts that make them a bit of unpredictable).
UPDATE : I was hoping to do another article on this incredible looking game, but without a computer at hand and being in hospital I'm only able to do a heads up that the developer has released a demo for 'The Gate'. In fact here's the full details and link provided below.
Here is a package with the playable demo of "The Gate", the game is almost finished but I need to complete the maps assets (on the paper the game is 100% complete). Here are some thing you should know:
- This is still a WIP, you may find bugs, typos and something wrong. I've tested it on Amiberry, my A1200 needs a recap and I cannot test it on real hardware yet.
- A friend of mine have tested the game on his real A1200 and things worked out without issues, if you find any bug, typos or weird things please report it so I can fix them.
- You need some fast mem to play the game, the chip ram is too slow and even if the game seems playable, it is not as smooth as it should be. I've tested it with 2 Mb of fast ram.
- For the Workbench, my tests were done on a standard Workbench 3.1.
- There are more information on the readme.
- The demo should last over 1.5 hours if you explore everything available.
- The estimate final game duration should be around 15 hours (but probably even more).
- Please read the readme.txt file included in the archive, there are things you should know to better enjoy the game, like controls, tips, how the save system works and how to play the game.
- This is just the beginning: the rooms you are going to visit in this demo are small and simple compared to the ones you will see later in the game!
- As I also mentioned in the readme, check everything, read the emails and the documents you find, check the terminals and take with you a pen & paper, you are an investigator and you need to take notes!

I've been backing the dev a little because i think that this game is going to be a great.
ReplyDeleteCheck the video, it really reminds me of cool games indeed like ' impossible mission' and even 'flashback' .
Keep it up Allanon !
This looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteWhy Project Firestart not got an Amiga port or a later fan made update always leaves me disappointed
ReplyDeleteLooks really cool! Hope it will see the release!
ReplyDeleteAGA only i bet, like the rest of them
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with that in 2025 ?
DeleteIt says 64 colors EHB, that's OCS
ReplyDeleteHello everyone!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the nice words!
I'm glad that many of you are enjoying this project :D
Some clarifications about the latest comments :)
The game is not AGA but uses EHB (64 colors), here is the proof

With my Indivision AGA MK3 in my A1200 i only get a black screen as soon as i get to the game-screen. The menu works fine, after i choose New Game and choose a game-slot the screen goes black and i get a flashing screen with the game-screen from time to time.
ReplyDeleteBooted without startup-sequence and run the game from there but same problem.
Well, this looks very intriguing - the kind of game that would absorb you for hours. Great work. One slight comment: at this stage, I am not seeing any great benefit from the EHB colours in the graphics. The graphics ARE attractive, though. But If the game runs into chip RAM limitations, I think that using only 16 colours would be a good option and will not change the graphics very much.
ReplyDeleteOverall, a very interesting project!
I don't se all those colours...
