I've just found out by looking through the itch io website, that OzzyOuzo is currently working on a new remake of Bad Dudes Vs. Dragon Ninja (a.k.a. Dragonninja) by Data East for the NEO GEO. In fact they have stated that this isn't just a remake, but a tribute to a cult classic, that would take the over-the-top and the cheesiness to the next level on a 16bit system. This could allow them to fit in some nice improvements too! So yes if you have a NEO GEO and lacking on something decent to play, make sure to check out the game linked below these teased images and video.
Here's the full details. "Coded from scratch, and sporting brighter, recoloured graphics, a brand new rocking soundtrack, 3 button controls, new gameplay elements & interactions, extra enemies and an exclusive finale, we hope this "Burger Edition" will please arcade game lovers. For the fans who prefer an experience closer to the original Data East classic, we have also included the possibility to disable Burger mode from the AES option menu or MVS dipswitches. You can download the ROM demo of the game that you can run on emulators, MiSTer fpga, or original hardware via NeoSD"

Too bad the original code wasn't used (it wouldn't have let you tweak the game so easily but could have sped up the remake process) but I love what you did there. Graphically this is awesome with all layers (truck, front objects) and special kudos to the giant burger delivering ninja boss. This is hilarious.

ReplyDeleteBad Dudes is a great game, one of the best Data East game. You did a great job, it's a good idea to improve the game, thus will entice gamers to play your version instead of playing to the arcade game. I agree with the previous suggestions about using the original code, same as to the latest Amiga port. It would be great if you could add the option on the menu to chose between the original sound track and the new version. Another great feature would be to add more weapons and more martial arts technics, and maybe combination kicks.

ReplyDeleteWoW, the devs did an Amazing work, lightened backgrounds and more colors used on screen, all characters sprites (dudes/enemies) are improved a lot (!), the game code seem clean since i don't seen bugs/inconsistencies .. everything moves very well and then all Extra stuff added .. SUPER !
Another thing that i very appreciated is the Retro machine used for this game : NEO GEO, an High Spec hardware, technically speaking this machine is at the top of the food chain, with its High resources it can handle ALL arcade games and home systems ones (2D stuff games), if i were a Retro developer the NEO GEO would definitely be my platform.
