Sorry guys and girls it's another high end Amiga requirement for this retro update, as looking through the project.Amiga Game Factory section of EAB, I've come across a new game that's in development called Axion by VirtualAssests for the Commodore Amiga. A new strategy game, that the creator says is an experimental 3D tactical strategy requiring a Motorola 68060 100 MHz or faster! So no you'll probably not be running this one smoothly even on a stock A1200. To coincide with this news, provided below is the latest footage and game details.
"Axion is an experimental 3D tactical strategy game set against the backdrop of deep space. Game status is Work In Progress. It is not fully functional yet but rather shows what it will be. You command a squad of combat units engaged in strategic encounters with enemy forces — where positioning, timing, and tactical decisions determine victory. The game features a fully software-rendered 3D engine, running on both classic Amigas and modern PowerPC-based systems such as AmigaOS 4.1 and MorphOS. No hardware acceleration — just raw CPU power and software rendering.."
Requirements (Classic Amiga)
- Experimental 030+fpu version added. Memory requirement reduced to 6mb fast.
- CPU: Minimum Motorola 68040 / 6MB - low resolution
- CPU: Motorola 68060 @ 100 MHz or faster
- RAM: 6 MB free
- OS: AmigaOS 3.x
- - UI enhancements
- - Added scenario manager
- - Added map selection mode
- - Fixes and optimizations
- - Added game engine features
- - Accelerated C2P
- - General structure reorganization
- - Experimental engine for 68030 processors
- - Lowered memory requirements
- - Added improvements for native Amiga graphics - non RTG. Should work nearly 2x faster than first version. Additional fix for reported crashes under Amiga Os4. Some other small tweaks."

Looks cool 😎
ReplyDeleteLooking great so far.
ReplyDeleteIt's so strange to see software rendered 3D after so many decades of hardware acceleration, but it's nice to see ANY 3D aAmiga game, for a change...
ReplyDeleteLooks great, very 'home world' :-) ships could probably do with a bit of colour, the Terran Trade Authority books might give a bit of inspiration - if you have any palette entries left of course!
ReplyDeleteNo sorries needed here.. Amiga needs more development in the high-end range, so that people can use their Pistorms and Vampires for games. Amiga, while a retroplatform, needs more modern software and games, it is not to be compared to 8bit computers and other low-quality retroplatforms. So games like Axion are welcomed, even if everyone cannot play them.
ReplyDeleteWouldnt call 8bit computers low-quality (If in doubt I prefer a Game on the C64 compared to any 16bit computer, so why not say lower-performance) BUT in any Case applaude every developer trying to utilize a Machines Maximum Performance. For the sake of those who actually own the physical stuff but also for the many users of emulators. Eagerly avaiting the finished game!
ReplyDeleteno hardware acceleration is not a merit, just IMO
