ChromaBlast - A new AI vertical scrolling shoot 'em up for Amiga OCS/ECS and AGA! (BETA)

Developer GuruVision has released a beta demo for ChromaBlast, a new vertical scrolling shoot-em-up for the Commodore Amiga developed through human-AI collaboration with Claude AI. Targeting OCS/ECS and AGA hardware, the game features a combo-driven evolution system where players control the Chromacraft to fight the Grayscale Armada across multiple levels. The project, created by Michele Ferrigno, utilizes custom 68000 assembly and C code to hopefully produce high-performance, OS-independent gameplay on stock A500+ machines.

The game plunges players into a desperate war against the "Grey Armada," a hostile alien force that has learned to siphon the very colour from the universe to fuel their war machine, leaving completely monochrome, lifeless desolation in their wake. Pilots must step into the cockpit of the Chromacraft, battling through relentless enemy formations to reclaim the vibrant hues of their stolen landscapes. The game according to the developer, features scrolling environments, massive animated boss encounters, an original Amiga MOD soundtrack, and distinct "decoloration attacks" that visually warp the environments in real time.

  1. With the current avalanche of AI assisted programs which lack any signs of thorough gamedesign,. development planning and testing ; it is getting harder and harder to show any enthousiasm for new releases like these. Adfded to that, where would I need to find the time to play all of these?

  2. Hi everyone, Michele from GV here. Yes, we used and currently use AI tools to help develop Chromablast, and we disclose that on our itch.io page because we want to be open about it.
For us, this project comes from a childhood dream: making our own game for the Amiga we grew up loving. Many years later, these tools are helping us turn that dream into something people can actually play.
This is not vibe coding stricto sensu, there’s a lot of work behind what you see and you can commonly catalog as an AI-created product: sleepless nights testing code, tracking down bugs, refining the graphics, adjusting the gameplay, introducing new ideas, and trying to make everything fit within the Amiga’s memory and performance limits when the code is badly behaving. Sometimes, that means spending an entire evening fixing a transition or revisiting something we thought was already finished. AI helps us along the way, and we still have to test, question and rework the results. We take responsibility for what we release.
We understand that people have different feelings about AI, and we respect that. For us, having help making a childhood dream come true is something we’re happy to be honest about.
We hope you’ll give Chromablast a try, no matter what. Feedback on how it looks, sounds and plays is always welcome, and helps us make it better. 🙂
    Thanks, Michele and GV team.

  3. Although this is not my favorite genre of games I do appreciate the effort.
Keep doing what you do Michele and GV team, make your dream come through, and make the game you always wanted to make.
I will play it once it is done.

    Cheers.
