The legendary 1995 Sharp X68000 vertical shoot 'em up Cho Ren Sha 68k has un-officially made its way to the Commodore Amiga, thanks to a brilliant new port by developer apolkosnik, with the help of AI. This ambitious release brings Famibe No Yosshin’s iconic shooter to life by running the original game code directly on Amiga systems equipped with a 68020 CPU or higher. The software cleverly emulates the X68000's custom hardware on the fly, delivering vibrant visuals through either standard AGA chipsets or RTG graphics cards.
Early feedback from EAB and via Youtube is rather positive thus far, with those running the game on a 68060 processor report having an absolute blast, noting how well the system handles the chaotic, sprite-heavy action on screen. To maintain fidelity to the original, the Amiga port preserves the Sharp X68000’s native 55.46 frames-per-second timing using a CIA timer; if a system struggles to keep up with the action, it automatically drops frames rather than slowing down the gameplay. The game's audio is utilizes disk-streamed recordings of the original YM2151 FM synth soundtrack that loop perfectly and maintain their precise volume levels relative to one another. Depending on your hardware setup, this music can be outputted in 8-bit stereo at 22 kHz across Paula channels 2 and 3 (leaving channels 0 and 1 dedicated to sound effects), routed seamlessly through AHI, or decoded as high-quality MP3s via an MHI decoder.
