RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic - Combining the best of the RCT classic series now for Android and iOS!

I'm sure many of you remember the awesome game that is RollerCoaster Tycoon 2; a game by Chris Sawyer and published by Infograms in which you manage your very own theme park, with all its rides, shops, puking guests and economic fortune. Well you'll be pleased to know that if you have an Android or iOS based device you can now play a mix of both RollerCoaster Tycoon 1 and 2 as RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic enhanced for handheld devices! Atari has hinted that this is going to be as authentic as possible to the original games, with the depth of gameplay and unique graphical style of Chris Sawyer’s original best-selling RollerCoaster Tycoon® series.

8-bit Music - The best of 8-bit retro music on your Android device!

In truth I can honestly say I'm not a fan of downloading and testing apps out on a mobile or tablet. Many of them feel really cheap and tatty and usually contain a ton of in-app purchases that makes you wonder why you even attempted that download in the first place. Hence why I very rarely mention them on this site. But today I happened to come across an App that I think many of you Android users might just like. It's called 8-bit music and allows you to play lots of different retro gaming based music channels directly through your phone!

Thrust 30 - Hayes Maker Games celebrates the 30th anniversary of Jeremy Smith's "Thrust"

I'm sure many retro gamers will remember Thrust, which was first published by Firebird Software Ltd and released in 1986. It also originally came on a multitude of systems including the Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 16, Plus/4, Commodore 64, Electron, Vectrex, and ZX Spectrum. In fact it was such a popular game, over the years we've had many remakes and ports and this time in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Jeremy Smith's Thrust, Hayes Maker Games with music by legendary C64 composer Matt Gray has made available his version that is playable on PC / Mac or any other HTML5 enabled device!

Halloween Jam 2016 - 63 games to play, including Castlevania remade in unreal!

Throughout the years there have been many game jams that have come and gone for gamers around the world to create a game specific to the theme. So if it's a Gameboy Jam for example, then the games have to look like a Gameboy game. One such jam which is still ongoing, the ' Halloween Jam 2016 ' really stood out, and it wasn't because of the amount of games on offer just 63 so far, but a developer by the name of Dejawolf has remade the 1986 NES game ' Castlevania ' using the Unreal engine.

Playmates 1985 "Fun-to-Drive" converted to a playable gaming system, wow!

If you grew up in the 80's then you grew up in a time of cartoon and gaming wonder, with new systems such as the Amstrad, C64, ZX Spectrum, Amiga, NES and Cartoons such as the Teenage Mutant Turtles, Mask and even my favourite the Thundercats. But even the toys were great too, and it's the Playmates Fun To Drive Dashboard which lives on in many childhood memories, that has been given a overhaul by Gustav Wingburen as a fully playable Android/Mame system!

Gravity Star Rescue Racer - Early work in progress Arcade game inspired by Thrust

Denis Evans from the wicked retro gaming store The Retro Cavern,  has contacted me about his new game that's in development for Mac, iOS, Android, and possibly PC via HTML5, 'Gravity Star Rescue Racer'. Taking inspirations from that classic game Thrust but with a unique twist, Gravity Star Race is more of a shoot em up affair as you have to blast everything under ground while keeping an eye on your shield level.

Skool Daze - A retro childhood classic is coming back on Mobile and Tablets!

A fantastic news story has just reached our inbox today and also thanks to a hearty mention by Chris Wilkins (Fusion Retro Books), is Alternative Software's upcoming Skool Daze remake which is coming to mobile and tablets very soon. It's incredible to think that Skool Daze was first released way back in 1984 for the ZX Spectrum and C64 created by David Reidy. It was the only game of its time, that gave you the experience of being at school, while also being an unruly child trying to steal a report card from the headmaster's safe before your parents end up seeing it. So you can see why I'm just that little bit excited to play this remake as the game is a very nostalgic experience for me, even if I was a good boy at school.

Hi-Viz - A new retro inspired game for Android and iOS!

It isn't often we mention Android and iOS games because I'm sure you'll agree with me, many of them are very very poor. The sort of games you come across that are either flooded with micro transactions or made in just a few hours time for a quick buck. But when it comes to 'Hi-Viz' for both Android and iOS, developed by Fr33man Games, that may be an exception.

Thimbleweed Park - Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick's retro inspired Adventure gets a new trailer!

The last Adventure announcement of the day and one I think tops all others in terms of retro style news, is a brand new trailer for Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick's upcoming Adventure game ' Thimbleweed Park '. We've just been informed by Riccardo Castelnuovo and the team at gaming startup ArticNet who are based in Osaka, Japan, of a new game called ' RPGolf ' that is aiming for Indiegogo funding for iOS, Android, PC and Mac. Classed as a hybrid RPG Golf game in an open-world, the developers have taken the boredom of golf and added a unique twist based on the beautiful surroundings you usually see when playing the game in real life.

Amiga Game Remakes for Android by Tomáš Konvička

To be honest apart from the odd Android game here and there, we tend not to feature them. Most are in our eyes are rather poor and just a way to cash in on microtransactions and other such paid for in game nasties. However thanks to a find by s2325, he's come across a video on Youtube which shows some of the better games that have appeared for Android based devices. This is in fact the 'Amiga Game Remakes for Android' upload by Tomáš Konvička, which has games such as Lemmings, Another World and Battle Squadron. It's just a shame that the video is only 11mins long, as I'm sure there are other great Amiga games ported over, well that's if the Amiga/Android emulator uae4all doesn't take your fancy!

Super 80's World - Let's take a trip back to the 80's in this newly announced platformer!

Ah the 80's, a time of of non stop glamour, trippy tunes, 8bit computers and in your face TV shows such as Airwolf, Knight Rider and The Dukes of Hazzard. It was such an upbeat time that even today I put in my 80's album and shun anything that's to do with today's music. So it will come as no surprise to you that the sudden surge in 80's style games such as the latest announced ' Super 80's World ' by Michael Cowden and team has just got me that little bit excited!

Z-Exemplar - Retro inspired ZX Spectrum R-Type demo update!

Throughout this year we've been featuring Suminell Studios upcoming ZX Spectrum style Shoot em up of ' Z-Exemplar ', which as of yet hasn't gained enough support for a Steam Greenlight success.  In development for Android, iOS, PC and Mac, it has the look of an R-Type, Gradius and Nemesis clone while combining bright, clashing 8-bit pixel ZX Spectrum detail but with frantic action and a classic loading squealer! To further push for a success, the developers have now released an updated Pre-Alpha Demo of which you can download below the trailer.
