DreadStar - A wicked PC shoot em up that's in development with ZX Spectrum tunes!

Growing up there was nothing more satisfying than playing top down scrolling shoot em ups such as the fantastic classic Tyrian 2000, which is also available on GOG. I'm also a bit of a sucker for bullet hell shooters that just don't stop with the constant flood of bullets across your gaming screen. But this game ' DreadStar 'by AugmentedIrreality takes the best out of this genre, adds a few unique gaming touches and includes a high grade chiptune soundtrack. This game is also in development as early access but does give you a taste of what to come as a free PC download.

8-way scrolling system teased for Atari STE game development

We don't usually feature Atari STE games simply for the fact that I am mainly an Amiga gamer at heart, but sufficed to say I was rather impressed by the news that has just appeared in our feed thanks to our friends AtariCrypt. A coder/developer by the name of Douglas Little (aka dml) is developing a new game engine for the Atari STE which creates the groundwork for an ultra smooth screen scrolling engine, and one with lots more colours. So imagine side scrolling shooters with smooth frame rates and lots of baddies on screen, which could be a realistic possibility with this up coming engine for the Atari STE.

Xenon 2 : Megablast - Amiga & Atari ST Shoot em up blasts its way onto the Atari Jaguar!

We've just had a real shocker of info in our mail box today, as that incredible shoot em up, ' Xenon 2 : Megablast ' from 1989, is finally available as a pre-order for the Atari Jaguar as a commercial release. Originally designed by those famous developers The Bitmap Brothers, and regarded as one of their most popular games for the Amiga and Atari ST (later ported to other systems), puts you in control of your very own space ship, blasting space monsters, collecting power ups and buying upgrades! A bloody fine game indeed and now Xenon 2 for the Atari Jaguar has the full blessing of Mike Montgomery, and converted over to the Atari Jaguar by Atariage user Cyrano Jones, with a brand new soundtrack by 505!

The Atari ST and the Creative People: Anthology - An awesome Atari ST Kickstarter Campaign

While the crowdfunding platforms are being flooded with projects for retrocomputing greats such as the C64, Spectrum and Amiga, the scene has been a little light on products for the Humble Atari ST. Seemingly unloved by people targeting the frothing hoards of Amiga fans the ST has been getting a short shrift of memorabilia to drop your wad on. Well Marco A. Breddin wants to change that with the kickstarter campaign to launch not one but a three book anthology just for the ST and its demoscene.

Lemmings Techno Remix by RIGELZ

It's incredible to think that this weekend was the 25th Anniversary of DMA Design's ' Lemmings ', a game published by Psygnosis way back in the early 90's for the Amiga, Atari ST and PC. It is one of the greatest games ever and featured many blue, green haired Lemmings that could be blown up, ripped apart and dropped from the highest of points before they even hope to reach that exit. But it wasn't just the digging, blocking and thought worthy gameplay that made people love it so, but it had some really chippy tunes that sound great even today. One of those tunes has been remixed by RIGELZ also known as Anton Eriksson, and although it's a short remix, the creator has promised to make it longer and for that I'm really grateful.

Last-Out - PC remake of the Amiga/Atari ST Shoot em up Z-Out, gets a beta release

Something special has just appeared in our inbox, it's the latest beta release of Christophe Simon's PC remake of the Amiga/Atari ST Shoot em up, Z-Out. Named as Last-Out and developed in Game Maker, this game aims to be as close possible to the 1990's sequel but completely overhauling the graphics with a remixed soundtrack by Marco Marold (SunSpire). Although the remake was first announced way back in 2009 with all three levels complete, 0.5.4 beta released this week has been updated and includes a partially playable level 5.

Atari ST game ' Ranarama ' WIP Amiga conversion by Galahad/Scoopex!

Not long into 2016 and already the Amiga scene is kicking it up a notch, as we've just learnt from our good friends Scoopex, of an Atari ST to Amiga conversion they have been working on with Galahad that is due at some point this year. The game is none other than ' Ranarama ' which not only appeared on the Atari ST but the Amstrad CPC, C64 and ZX Spectrum. The gameplay was basically a top down Gauntlet styled action game, developed by Craftgold in the late 80's and published by Hewson Consultants.

Lupo Alberto - Atari ST game discovered and released after 25 years!

We've recently been contacted by Filippo from the Atari World Italia Facebook group of the announced release of ' Lupo Alberto : The VideoGame ' for the Atari ST. What makes this release so special is the fact that Lupo Alberto was available for the C64, and Amiga, but never saw the light of day.... At least until now! Thanks to the game designer, graphic artist and musician Luca Stradiotto, we now have the 25 years-old unreleased Atari ST version of "Lupo Alberto - The Videogame" to play, (a game based on a famous Italian comic), that's complete bar the music.

Happy 30th Birthday Commodore Amiga and Atari ST!

It's a time to light those candles upon that tasty cake, as both the Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST are celebrating their 30th anniversary. That's right, it's 30 years to this day that the Amiga was launched, and last month it was the Atari ST! It's amazing to think that when I was a child all I wanted was an Atari ST, and the best thing in the world was to happen, I got an Amiga 500. A gaming system that I personally spent so many hours playing, with entire summers having gone in a flash and it was back to school. With games such as Deuteros, Dragons Breath, Shadow of the Beast, Moonstone, Eye of the Beholder, Millenium 2.2 all of them fantastic and that was just a small taster of the incredible releases that came out in the 90's!

Laserball 2015 - Reflective Atari ST puzzle game for boxed pre-order

Retro Video Gamer ‏has just contacted us through our twitter feed of the recent announcement for Thomas Ilg's Atari ST homebrew game ' Laser Ball ', that is up for pre-order as a high quality boxed edition titled 'Laser Ball 2015'. Originally released in 2014 as an arcade puzzle game with great feedback such as "The Sign of every good Puzzle game", the developer is hoping for at least 15 pre-orders before the game is boxed, as small amounts are very expensive.

R-Type Deluxe blasting its way towards the Atari STe

You may remember our big article on the Amstrad remake of 'R-Type 128k' which came with high praise and regarded as one of the most downloaded Amstrad homebrew's ever. But there's another remake that is set to take the Atari ST scene by storm and it's 'R-Type Deluxe', which is coming to the Atari STe at some point this year developed by Stephen Jones. For those of you who don't know of R-Type, it is one of the most incredible shoot em ups of our time, originally produced by Irem in 1987 that has been ported to a multitude of systems as you defend humanity against a mysterious alien life form known as the Bydo.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - Lucasfilm Games Adventure C64 port! (WIP)

Have we got some special news for you and it's a game that C64 owners may well rush to their attics and get their hardware out for after 30 years of non usage just to play. Brick Bambi has fully announced with the second video, of a C64 work in progress graphical adventure port of the "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade " Amiga, PC, Atari ST and Mac release. First mentioned way back in 2013 as a teaser, this latest port was never originally released on the C64 and as such the developer hopes to push the game to a feature packed title and one that most C64 owners would be proud to have in their collection.

Solomon's Key 1 & 2 - Amiga CD32 gets two never officially released games!

After nearly 2 months of silence from Earok, creator of the brilliant Amiga CD32 ports, we now have a brand new double release for the Amiga CD32 in the form of Solomon's Key 1 and 2. Classed as guest releases, this time by Cobe, these are two special games that have never received a commercial Amiga release. Solomon's Key 1 is an Atari ST port hacked to work on the Amiga and Solomon's Key 2 is an unofficial ground up rewrite of the NES exclusive.

D/Generation HD - 1990's Arcade Adventure gets the HD treatment

Here's a game we haven't heard of for a very long time, D/Generation; an arcade adventure with puzzle elements in an isometric point of view released way back in 1991 for the Amiga, PC and Atari ST. It was set in a slightly cyberpunk futuristic setting of 2021 and had you playing as a jetpack courier that has to deliver an important package to Genoq’s leading researcher, Derrida, but ends up oblivious to the danger ahead. That very same game is now being overhauled from the original source with glorious HD graphics, and what's more it's also going through a Steam Greenlight campaign!

Hunter HD - Action/Adventure classic gets a remake!

Let's go back in time, right back to 1991 when Activsion released 'Hunter' for the Amiga and Atari ST. An action-adventure game that by today's view point would be classed as a Battlefield 4, Grand Theft Auto and Far Cry mix. Expansive, open worlds, a military theme, and the focus on small squads of soldiers or lone heroes. A high grade 3D game with sandbox-type game play, developed by Paul Holmes and music by Martin Walker. If you remember the title, you'll be very pleased to know that there is now a Hunter HD (Fan Remake) proof-of-concept that is in the works by Cherno, that is also playable in your browser right now.
