I can say for sure there's probably not many of you that haven't heard of 'Metal Slug', a game in a series of games that are well known in the gaming community, going back to the days of the Neo Geo system. This game has plenty of humor, while remaining action packed throughout. In fact it was so much fun and still is, that a fan by the name of masteries had developed a Metal Slug (Mission 1) port for the Atari STE; an Atari development that runs at a rather smooth 50 frames per second with very few slowdowns!
1982 - 1983 Classic Arcade game 'Kangaroo' gets an Atari 8bit makeover by TIX
Another retro gaming article to keep you company and yes we've certainly had a busy week so far, is a brand new game hack for the Atari XL/XE called 'Kangaroo'. This latest addition to a long list of game hacks that have been seen for this system already, is a hack of the 1982-1983 Atari 8bit version. A new hack by TIX, which doesn't just feature a graphical makeover of the character sprites such as the Kangaroo, but also the Fruits, Bell and the leaves of the trees.
Final Assault - A rather impressive FPS released by GMG for the Atari 8bit
Even though we were rather late with the news update for this game as I was just too swamped with doing life stuff, but if you have an Atari XL/XE and want to play something that's rather impressive for an 8bit game, then it might be worth your time checking out GMG's latest game of 'Final Assault'; A new first person shooter developed by Robert Globe Pecnik and Marian Vybostok using a smooth Raycaster engine running at 25-30fps working on PAL and NTSC machines.
Kooky's Quest 2021 - A roguelike game released for the Atari XL/XE
Another retro gaming article to keep you company and yes there's certainly going to be a lot to get through this week, is a brand new game for the Atari XL/XE called 'Kooky's Quest 2021'. This game developed by Eric Anschuetz, Robert Anschuetz, and John Weisgerber as possibly a spin off to another game we featured called Kooky Climber. Is a new rogue-like in which you need to go on a quest through dangerous dungeons to collect powerful loot!
Laura Competition Edition - All new stages sent to the competition announced via Retro na Gazie for the Atari XL/XE
If you're looking for something nice to play over this weekend on your Atari XL/XE, then look no further than the competition edition of the previously released puzzler 'Laura'. A game that was not only originally released way back in 2018 as the new adventures, but it was a Christmas gift from ccwrc and Larek that added new levels to the game. This competition version however, yet again features new levels, but this time including all the stages sent to the competition announced at retronagazie.eu.
Prince of Persia - HOT NEWS as a fabulous Atari XL/XE port has been released!
Another hot news story for you all, as we have just been told through twitter that the all time classic platformer of 'Prince of Persia'; a game which has been released for many different systems back in 1989 by Broderbund, has finally been made available as an incredible port for the Atari XL/XE. Prince of Persia is not only a game that featured lots of well designed platforming levels, but the game was full of danger as you must be careful not to fall through loose floors, get hit by sword wielding guards, crushed by gates or at worst skewered in blood on deadly spikes.
Pengo - A classic Arcade game from 1982 is not only coming to the 7800, but you can try the demo!
Way back in 1982, Coreland published by Sega released the Arcade game of 'Pengo', A maze like game in which playing as a penguin, you must survive each round by eliminating all Sno-Bees and Sno-Bee eggs with sliding blocks, while optionally lining up the three diamond blocks for a large bonus. Well today's news is pretty interesting for the Atari 7800, as darryl1970 has released a demo of the Arcade conversion which is coming to the Atari 7800 at some point in the near future.
Space Assailants 2121 - A New Atari 8bit and Atari 5200 Space Invaders clone!
We've seen lots of Space Invader variants over the years from Sprite Invaders on the C64, to our personal favorite from Pink/Abyss 'Tiny Invaders' on the Amiga. Well another Atari homebrew variation of Space Invaders has just appeared, and this one by Anschuetz is called ' Space Assailants 2121'; An Arcade like release which pits you against waves of Aliens avoiding all of the scrolling stars instead of dodging missiles shot by the Aliens themselves.
Fallen Kingdom - An upcoming Atari XL/XE Chess game with a difference!
When I was a young lad my step dad used to always go on about Chess. He'd sit there for hours on end moving around pieces as if the end result would be some grand prize. It certainly wasn't my idea of fun as I was a video gamer anyway! Still if you like Chess but feel like the gameplay could be changed in some way, then you may be interested in checking out 'Fallen Kingdom'; a new game entered into the Atari XL/XE competition that adds a unique style to the Chess based genre.
Gacek - Another Bomb Jack port for the Atari XL/XE gets a second tease
I can still remember in the late 80's playing the brilliant Arcade port ' Bomb Jack '; a game that required you the player to jump and float about getting rid of all the bombs on the screen before they are used to blow up historic places of interest. It was such an awesome game that even though a fan port of the game was released on the Atari XL/XE coded by Krzysztof Gora in 2008, another version looks to be in the works and this one is called Gacek and developed by Shanti77. To coincide with this news, the game has got another teaser as an entry into the ABBUC Software Contest 2021.
Petscii Robots - Action Adventure game from David Murray/8Bit Guy gets an Atari XL/XE port!
Something slightly different for your evening entertainment, as Saberman has recently contacted us on Facebook to tell you that the same creator of PLANET X3, who we know as David Murray/The 8bit guy, has made available the Action Adventure game of 'Petscii Robots'; an unusual port for the Atari XL/XE since it runs in monochrome text mode, but it is just as fun to play as the Commodore or Apple version. To coincide with this news, you can view some new screenshots and the latest footage from Saberman himself.
Robot Dungeon 2121 - A Berzerk like game entered into the Atari 8bit ABBUC 2021 competition
Tom has moments ago contacted us about a new game that's in development called 'Robot Dungeon 2121'; a game which is not only coming to the Atari XL/XE, but looks very much like a clone of the rather fun 1980's game Berzerk. According to the video uploader who has shown off this new footage, Robot Dungeon 2121 developed for the Atari 8 Bit Computer Systems, is being programmed by Eric Anschuetz, Robert Anschuetz, and John Weisgerber, which has been submitted for the ABBUC 2021 new Atari 8 Bit programming contest.
Betty's Issues - A simple yet enjoyable arcade game released for the Atari XL/XE
Those of you looking for some fresh weekend news for the Atari XL/XE have come to the right place, as Saberman has just informed us of a brand new game for the Atari 8bit called 'Betty's Issues'. This game first mentioned via the atarionline website, is an Arcade game in which you need to find your wife Betty, who has locked herself up in a tower surrounded by dangerous enemies such as worms, bats and another nasties!
Bruce Lee - Return of Fury - A continuation of a classic 80's game is coming to the Atari XL/XE
In 1984 Datasoft released a brilliant arcade platformer called 'Bruce Lee' which was based on the famous motion picture martial artist. It was and still is a highly regarded platformer that is still loved to this day and can be played by anyone. But boy do we have some great news for you, as a Bruce Lee fan game by the name of Bruce Lee - Return of Fury, which was originally released by MegaStyle for the C64, is coming to the Atari XL/XE by Ute and Fantomas.

Vaults of Nhyrmeth - A work in progress Atari XL/XE Dungeon Crawler gets a new demo
Another heads up for you all on this rather hot Thursday, as if you've been following our recent news updates regarding the upcoming Atari XL/XE Dungeon Crawler of ' Vaults of Nhyrmeth ' then you'll be pleased to know that as of this week, Saberman has told us that you can download the latest demo which is downloadable below. This is a new Dungeon Crawler in development by clth that was originally meant as a Christmas gift whereby you must traverse deep underground caverns, find items and fight strange beasts.
HOT NEWS as the Great Giana Sisters is coming to the Atari XL/XE!
We've certainly heard a lot about that famous platformer the 'Great Giana Sisters' from 1987, especially as it came back to the Amiga as a Giana Special Edition by Reimagine Games and then of course the Great Giana-Sisters C64 Construction-Set, whereby you can create your own levels. But this latest update is sure to excite many Atari XL/XE owners, as the New Generation is working on their own special port, which was first announced at the Lost Party 2021 in Poland.
Athanor 2 - The Legend Of The Birdmen - A new Adventure game is coming soon to Amiga OCS and up
Thanks to a heads up by one of our readers AGamerandHisJack, we have just been informed that not only is Athanor 2 - The Legend of the Birdmen still coming to the Amiga hopefully soon, but without the heads up, we would have not known the game had been teased again with a Pre-Release Video dating back to May of this year. For those who of you who haven't heard of this game before, it is being programmed in C and is the sequel to the 2015-2016 game 'Athanor' which was also released on the Amstrad CPC, ORIC and yes even the C64.
Firefox Dash 56 - The latest Atari XL/XE Boulder Dash clone with new levels
Once again another retro heads up from Saberman, as we've just been told that Mike Langer 2021 has released the Boulder Dash clone of 'Firefox Dash 56' for the Atari XL/XE. This game available to download below, is a slight enhancement from the original game released way back in 1984 for the same system, as it now features lots of new and difficult levels for you to challenge your Boulder Dash skills.
TURBO ARCADE - An awesome racing game is coming 2022 to your Atari 2600, demo now available
If however you don't have a ZX Spectrum but instead an Atari 2600 then you might like this piece of news, as trawling through Facebook, we've just come across this awesome looking racing game for the Atari 2600 called Turbo Arcade. Although the game isn't due to be released until 2022, Champ Games have at least released a demo for you to try which gives you an early look at this upcoming racing game which when complete, will feature 99 rounds and hundreds of scenes to race through.
