If you remember the 1980's hit game of Tetris then you'll be pleased to know that as of this morning, we have been informed that JOTD finally released the 1988 Arcade version of Tetris for the Commodore Amiga 1200. As in the words of the creator "A transcode of Atari Tetris arcade version for 68020/AGA amiga, music is kind of emulated, missing some drums & sfx but it's still really good!". To coincide with this news, not only can you play this awesome looking port right now via itch io, but Saberman has also provided some new gameplay footage too.
Super GP 64 - A new racing game has been released for the Commodore 64
It's not often we get new racing games for the Commodore 64, but trawling through the itch io website today, we've found out that AJ Layden has released the Commodore 64 game of 'Super GP 64'. A new game in which the developer describes "as a simple arcade style racer, inspired by games like Pitstop and Pitstop 2, and is a port and reworking of his Super Monza GP 2 game for the VIC 20". In light of this news as ever we've got some new footage of this arcade racer which can be found below.
Dig Dug - A C64 port of Dig Dug by LC-Games, an arcade game first released by Namco in 1982!
Remember those days when seaside resorts had many arcade games to play, from top down shoot 'em ups to nifty little platformers. If you do, then you'll be pleased to know that as of today, you can now download the rather cool C64 port of Dig Dug by LC-Games, an arcade game first released by Namco in 1982! To coincide with this news, while you can view the very latest footage of the port below, the creator has staid the game does include the levels from the original arcade game, while also stating there are 15 different levels of which the last 4 are repeated until reaching level 256 (the kill screen).
Spheroid - Previously featured WIP puzzle game for the Amiga is now available
We have been told that the previously featured work in progress game of 'Spheroid' by Arkanix Labs has been now been released as a new game for 2024. For those who don't remember playing the first version and the XMAS edition, in this game you need to use your sphere like object to traverse a set of different tiled floors to reach the exit. To coincide with this news story, not only is there a new gameplay video available below, but it gives a better idea of how to play the game and if it's to your liking.
ZX Pac-Man Arcade - A ZX Spectrum version of Pac Man that is faithful to the Arcade!
There have been many Pac-Man games mentioned on Indie Retro News, from the Pac-Man Xtreme romhack, to Jr. Pac-Man on the Intellivision, which all vary in style to the 1980's hit classic that can still be found today sitting as a port beside an Atari 2600 ( or if you're lucky an original Arcade machine ). Well ZX owners are about to get in on the Arcade fun as thanks to a heads up by a good friend, we've been told that marco-leal-zx has released ZX Pac-Man Arcade : A ZX Spectrum version of Pac Man that is faithful to the Arcade!
Santa's Workout 3 - Vector5games Christmas C64 release, has made a surprising appearance on the Amiga!
You'd think the Christmas games would be done with by now, especially with the new year just days away but not so! As earlier today Saberman contacted us to let us know, that the previously released Commodore 64 game of Santa's Workout 3 by Vector5Games, has been ported over to the Commodore Amiga. A rather enjoyable game in which you need to help Santa deliver presents and place them under the Christmas tree! In light of this festive season, Saberman has also provided a new gameplay video.
Mega R-Type DEMO - R-Type for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis with an updated demo!
In 1987 Irem produced one of the greatest shoot em ups of our time, a shoot em up that even today is regarded as one of the best. That shoot em up was none other than R-Type. A game which featured many waves of enemies, a beam weapon, power ups, great level detail (that almost feels alive), big menacing bosses and a fantastic soundtrack that you will listen to again and again. So why is this awesome game getting another mention? Well we've just found out that the in development Sega Mega Drive/Genesis of 'Mega R-Type,' has got a BIG demo update with a new stage and more!
Johnny The Ghost - Creepy goings on in this new ZX Spectrum game by Harald & Marcus Gitzel
Not content with all the Christmas games ( bah humbug ), then about a rather creepy ZX Spectrum that's been mentioned to us by Saberman called 'Johnny The Ghost ' by Harald & Marcus Gitzel. An arcade puzzle game in which playing as a Ghost, must traverse many difficult levels, while moving objects in a set way to collect each of the golden helmets. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided a video giving us a glimpse at many of the levels found in Johnny The Ghost.
Forest Saver - Save the Trees in this new Commodore 64 game by INTOINSIDE
Yet another Commodore 64 heads up for you all, as we've recently been informed by Saberman that the previously teased C64 game of Forest Saver by intoinside, has been released with a new 3.1.2 build for you to download and enjoy. In this game playing as a Ranger with his job to protect the Forest, you must be careful of of the loggers and industries who not only want to destroy the Forests, but they are also trying to pollute the lakes and make land for their pasture!
A China Miner Christmas - A festive revamp of the infamously difficult C64 single-screen platformer from 1984
You can just tell it's Christmas with all these lovely festive games appearing on Indie Retro News, Christmas music being played on the radio, and lights twinkling in your neighbours window. Booty The Remake - A classic 1980's game is now available as an Amstrad CPC remake!
Way back in 1984 Firebird released the Pirate style Arcade Puzzle game 'Booty' for the Amstrad CPC, C64, Commodore Plus/4, and ZX Spectrum. In that game you played as a cabin boy that had to steal treasure from his pirate masters, which meant avoiding other pirates, parrots and booby trapped treasure! Well if you remember this rather classic pirate themed game from the 1980's, you'll will be pleased to know that as of right now you can play 'Booty The Remake': A high quality version of this classic which has been released for the Amstrad CPC via PlayOnRetro.
STUNTMAN SEYMOUR - HOT NEWS as a classic 8bit game from 92 gets an Amiga recovery!
During our many write ups we do love writing about old retro games, especially ones that have never been heard of, or those that have been lost through the years and for one reason or another have been uncovered, much to the delight of the retro community. Today's release for example is a Christmas special! As our good friends and well worth a visit website of Games That Weren't, have informed us that Stuntman Seymour, a game which has been missing for 30 years, has been recovered and released for the Commodore Amiga!
Spelunky64 - Another Paul Koller C64 port in the works and it looks GOOD!
A little known fact about Christmas... Just as Santa is travelling around on his sleigh dishing out presents.. Paul Koller's elves were stalking the Earth installing extra ram and cpu clock speed into everyone's C64s while you're asleep. There can't be any other reason Paul Kollers' infamous ports function on a 36 year old 8 bit microcomputer! If you need proof just check out Super Bread Box, Micro Hexagon, C64nabalt and the recent phenomenal LuftrauserZ (RGCD).
Fragile Gamebert - This new Commodore 64 game by Frodewin and team looks fun!
Thanks to yet another heads up from a good friend of ours , we've been told that if you're looking for something different to play on your C64 that looks like a lot of fun to play throughout Christmas, then make sure to check out the new final version of 'Fragile Gamebert' by frodewin, Logiker, Razyberry and ComSha for the Commodore 64. A game in which you have to transport a fragile Gamebert trophy to an award ceremony venue before it starts without smashing it into pieces!
E.D.F. Special - An Amiga proof of concept inspired by the game E.D.F. from SNES and the arcade
If you're fed up with all the Christmas news, then how about this news story that's just been sent to us by Saberman, it's S0Y's latest game development of 'E.D.F. Special': An early alpha tease of a new arcade shoot 'em up that's based on the original SNES version of Jaleco and created in RedPill! To coincide with this news, while the developer has provided some info about the game, you can see the latest footage of this proof of concept showing waves of enemies, different bullets, and the smallest of level teases.
The Mijadore Vase - A rather cool ZX Spectrum game from EdD
We were a bit late on this one but it's still worth a mention, as thanks to another heads up by Saberman who has just posted a gameplay video, he has told us that EdD has released the rather cool ZX Spectrum game of 'The Mijadore Vase' through itch io. A game in which you not only play as Milko Jones, an amateur fisherman more braggart than adventurer, but you must complete a quest to find a mysterious vase in the tombs of a small, half-buried pyramid.
Tetris 1200 (AGA) - The 1988 Arcade version of Tetris is coming to the Commodore Amiga!
The 1984 game of Tetris has been mentioned many times on Indie Retro News, with new versions of the game being re-released on the Amstrad CPC, C16, Plus/4 and ZX Spectrum. Well here's another version of the game that is sure to be enjoyed by many that still love this game even today, as JOTD is developing Tetris for the Commodore 1200 as a port from the 1988 Arcade game by Atari Games. To coincide with this news, not only can you play a very early Alpha demo that's missing sound, but Saberman has provided a video of this early development.
Noon30 Shovel Duck - A new arcade platformer by io.rrwm for the ZX Spectrum
While the weather is still distinctly grim here in the UK with so much rain I might need a boat, there's one game that I'd recommend anyone who has a ZX Spectrum to pick up and play to pass the time, and it's io.rrwm's latest release of 'Noon30 Shovel Duck' for the ZX Spectrum. A colorful platformer as the creators first game designed using Jonathan Cauldwell's Multi-Platform Arcade Game Designer. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided a new video showing the game in action.

Shadow Dancer - A classic 1989/91 game is still getting a Mega Drive to Amiga port [NEW WIP DEMO!]
As we said before, while many of you have played Shadow Dancer on the Amiga, some of you felt while the game was fun, it was lacking in graphics, noting by many as having an Atari ST colour-palette and no Parallax. Well one such user is hoping to change that negative view, as not only has msmalik681 shown some new footage of the upcoming Mega Drive to Amiga port of Shadow Dancer using the Scorpion Engine, but as of today you can download the very first work in progress demo!
