Raiden - Atari STe owners get ready for a wicked shooter update!
In 1990 and onwards the epic scrolling shooter game 'Raiden' by Seibu Kaihatsu, made its appearance on many different systems such as the Atari Falcon, Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx, DOS(PC), PC Engine and even the PlayStation. In fact there was even a prototype of the game released as a demo on the Commodore Amiga, which sadly never appeared as a full release. But don't get your hopes up too much if you're an Amiga owner at least, as this time thanks to a heads up by AtariCrypt, this classic shooter is being developed for the AtariSTE!
8-way scrolling system teased for Atari STE game development
We don't usually feature Atari STE games simply for the fact that I am mainly an Amiga gamer at heart, but sufficed to say I was rather impressed by the news that has just appeared in our feed thanks to our friends AtariCrypt. A coder/developer by the name of Douglas Little (aka dml) is developing a new game engine for the Atari STE which creates the groundwork for an ultra smooth screen scrolling engine, and one with lots more colours. So imagine side scrolling shooters with smooth frame rates and lots of baddies on screen, which could be a realistic possibility with this up coming engine for the Atari STE.
Great Giana Sisters - Enhanced for the Atari STE with extra features!
Another classic game which has been given a retro kick up the rear but this time for the Atari STE is the very well known Great Giana Sisters from 1987. Many of you already know of this game by now especially Amiga and C64 owners but this game has huge similarities to Super Mario and as such way back in the 80's also had an alleged lawsuit case against them from Nintendo (wiki). So don't be too surprised to come across an original selling for £100's on Ebay. But the news at this early hour, is this game has been enhanced for the Atari STE even further with smooth scrolling with added audio track play back.
R-Type Deluxe blasts its way through a WIP Christmas release for the Atari STe!
Lets go back some months shall we, right back to the July of 2015 when we mentioned the jaw dropping ' R-Type Deluxe ', that was coming to the Atari STe (link). It was meant to be a remake of the most incredible shoot em up of our time, originally produced by Irem in 1987. This remake was set to take the Atari ST scene by storm making full use of the extra hardware, pushing to the limits, its blitter, hardware scrolling and sound chip like never before! Well finally as an end of year update, the developer bod/STAX has released a work in progress version, that according to one such user all stages are playable!
Anarcho Ride - Arcade smashing racer for the Atari STe/Falcon goes final!
Our retro friend Darren Doyle of Atarigamer, recently tweeted us about the release of Thomas Ll's Atari STe/Falcon game ' Anarcho Ride ', which has left the beta stage and is now available as version V1.01. Originally just GFA Basic code which was found and now fully developed into this rather cool looking racing game, with graphics by Alan Garrison Tomkins and music by XFalcon, you play as a racer and must slide your way into other cars for an ever increasing high score!
Anarcho Ride - Arcade smashing racer for the Atari STe/Falcon (BETA)
Over two months ago Thomas Ilg announced the pre-order for the boxed edition of the Atari ST homebrew game ' Laser Ball' (link). Now after previously announcing he was not going to be making any more Atari ST games, the developer found some rather interesting GFA Basic code related to an arcade racing game, of which he has now released as beta today; ' Anarcho Ride '. With graphics by Alan Garrison Tomkins and music by XFalcon, your ultimate goal is to race and smash! Slide your way into cars, or just straight head on collisions in this latest beta release!
R-Type Deluxe blasting its way towards the Atari STe
You may remember our big article on the Amstrad remake of 'R-Type 128k' which came with high praise and regarded as one of the most downloaded Amstrad homebrew's ever. But there's another remake that is set to take the Atari ST scene by storm and it's 'R-Type Deluxe', which is coming to the Atari STe at some point this year developed by Stephen Jones. For those of you who don't know of R-Type, it is one of the most incredible shoot em ups of our time, originally produced by Irem in 1987 that has been ported to a multitude of systems as you defend humanity against a mysterious alien life form known as the Bydo.
