Mystery World Dizzy - A 'new' old game by The Oliver Twins gets a NES Kickstarter
Throughout my childhood and into my adult life I've always had a fondness for that little adventuring egg called Dizzy, especially when he was first loaded up on to my Amstrad and then onwards to the Amiga and all the fan games that came thereafter. He brought into my life joy and wonder as thanks to the creators the Oliver Twins it was the only fairy tail that really mattered to me the most, ah the good ol' Yolkfolk! So if like me you were also a fan and celebrated the 30th Anniversary, you'll be pleased to know Chris Wilkins, behind The Story of The Oliver Twins has launched a NES Kickstarter for Mystery World Dizzy - A 'new' old game by The Oliver Twins!
Mystery World Dizzy - Is this the latest Dizzy game to be announced by The Oliver Twins?
You may have been keeping an eye on the gaming news lately and if so would've known that on Saturday 8th April, the Oliver Twins are celebrating International Dizzy Day at the National Videogame Arcade in light of the 30th Anniversary of the Oliver's egg creation, Dizzy! But what stood out most to us was some days ago, Chris Wilkins of Fusion Retro Books mentioned a Kickstarter launch at the event to raise funds to finally release a surprise game announcement as Mystery World Dizzy on the NES..... Of which I may have found an early version of!
Commodore : The Inside Story by David John Pleasance - A book Kickstarter you really should back!
Through all these later years and Kickstarter book campaigns and documentaries, you'd probably think there wasn't anything else to write about when it comes to that historic C64 and Amiga company 'Commodore'. But that is all about to change, as here we have a brand new Kickstarter campaign for the Commodore : The Inside Story book, which is actually being told by one of the Commodore legends 'David John Pleasance', who was a former UK Managing Director of that famous company!

Chris Wilkins, the creator of the brilliant retro gaming books 'The story of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in pixels ' Vol 1 - 3, ' The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels ' , ' The History of Ocean Software ' and other such fine nostalgic look backs has finally announced his latest book ' The Little Book of ZX Spectrum Games ' is now available for pre-order. This small book of wonder measuring at just 15cm by 15cm, is ideal for long travels and will be packed with info such as games inclusive of pictures, reviews and scores - split into a multitude of genres such as Sports, Arcade, Adventure, Adventure and Simulation.

Although we did not mention this glorious Kickstarter when it was first announced, we are kinda glad we didn't. Because today, there is a far better announcement to be made, as Chris Wilkins latest book, 'The story of the Commodore Amiga in pixels' has smashed its Kickstarter goal raising £28,958 pledged of a £25,000 goal so far, which puts it at the fastest retro book raising crowd funding campaign we've seen. To be honest this comes as no surprise as not only does it look like one of his best books, but its also by the same person who did ' The Little Book of ZX Spectrum Games ', 'The story of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in pixels ' Vol 1 - 3, ' The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels ' , 'The story of the Oliver Twins' , ' History of Ocean Software ' and ' The Story of U.S Gold'!
Barnsley Badger - Could this be one of the best C64 games of 2016? Exclusive Preview!
During Chris Wilkins Kickstarter campaign for 'The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels', which was a huge success. One of the pledges £65 or more ,was a signed copy of a new C64 game called 'Barnsley Badger', developed by Trevor Story, George Rottensteiner and team. It star'd a gambling badger called Barnsley, who, after overhearing a conversation about a discovered gold coin in a graveyard, which has the head of the great Tutanbadge carved on one side. Goes on a quest to find more treasure to hopefully pay of his debts and live the life of luxury. I was starting to wonder when the next popular book from Chris Wilkins would appear and sure enough here we are announcing the next one in his retrotastic library, ' The Little Book of ZX Spectrum Games '. From the creator of 'The story of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum in pixels ' Vol 1 - 3, ' The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels ' , ' The History of Ocean Software ' and other such fine nostalgic look backs, this one is going to be a pocket size book that will feature over 150 games with a single page being given to each game!

I was just trawling the forums looking for the latest news and came across a new video that is sure to appeal to a vast majority of our readers. This is a brand new documentary by Kim Justice on the entire history of Ocean Software, from start to finish. As Kim says : The early days with Imagine, the glorious success that Robocop bought, plus Batman to Daley Thompson, Cobra to Frankie, Jurassic Park to the Addams Family...and finally to the end. Gary Bracey once said that Ocean were the biggest games company in the world. As such if you want to know nearly everything there is to know about " Ocean " who I'd class as one of the greats, you should seriously watch this video!

Yes indeed finally after all this time and many requests, Chris Wilkins could be doing a book on the 80's home computer the Amstrad CPC by founder Alan Sugar!

Any time someone mentions Chris Wilkins, I think of those awesome books he has done such as ' The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels ' , ' The History of Ocean Software ' and the ' ZX Spectrum Story in pixels ' which is filled to the brim with memoirs, factual history, classic game screenshots and much more all in a lovely glossy print. Each one a huge success through Kickstarter and is a joy to read that I'd recommend time and time again to others. Well now Chris has moved onto his next Kickstarter and this time it's ' The story of the Oliver Twins ' who many of us know as the legends behind Dizzy!
Wonderland Dizzy - The Oliver Twins BIG Dizzy game reveal & The Oliver Twins book Kickstarter!
Through this month and last, The Oliver Twins have been hinting at a brand new Dizzy game that was to be revealed on Saturday 24th October at the Cambridge show. Well today right on cue, we have got the latest scoop that this game is actually called ' Wonderland Dizzy ' and you can play it right now! But before we lead you towards this fine place of gaming fun, let us talk a bit about how this game came to be.
The Story of The Oliver Twins book detailed update!
While we wait for the big Dizzy game announcement this Saturday 24th October at The Centre for Computing History - Cambridge (Link), Chris Wilkins has given us a further update in relation to ' The Story of The Oliver Twins ' book, which will be announced at 1pm. Created by Chris Wilkins & Roger M. Kean with cover design by Steven Day, a Kickstarter will be announced for the book that will feature memoirs from many who worked on the games with the Oliver's, the conversions to other systems and the book will also include over 100 pages on the history of the Twins.

Through all these years of writing on Indie Retro News, we've always given a special mention to anything that's Dizzy related, from those fan based games out of Yolkfolk.com, to the originals developed in the 80's/90's by the legends themselves; The Oliver Twins. But what we were especially excited to hear of, was an upcoming Dizzy book announcement with a possible game at The Centre for Computing History - Cambridge : 24th October (link). However today we've just been told by Chris Wilkins that this new book which is coming to Kickstarter will be named ' The Story of The Oliver Twins - Let's Go Dizzy ', and will probably be all you need to know about The Oliver Twins, including all of the games created with a beautiful screen display for each. Furthermore The book will be by Chris Wilkins & Roger M. Kean with cover design by Steven Day.

Usually the site is in top form with it's news for the latest announcements, especially as we gave you the big heads up for a possible new Dizzy game coming directly from the developers themselves. Well after being a little late ( It was my Birthday :p ), I'm pleased to give you all the news, as The Oliver Twins, will be revealing a brand new Dizzy game at The Centre for Computing History - Cambridge : 24th October 2015! That's right gamers, the 1980's is coming back in an all new Dizzy adventure, starring both Dizzy and his girlfriend Daisy. Read on for the details.
The story of the Commodore 64 in pixels - Chris Wilkins Book kickstarter success!
After a very good campaign we are pleased to announce Chris Wilkins book ' The Story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels' has smashed it's Kickstarter goal and raised over double in funding to be a complete success. In all the campaign hit £47,066 pledged of a £20,000 goal and all but one of the stretch goals was met. As such many will receive this glorious book while specific pledgers will get a brand new C64 game by Trevor Story and Georg Rottensteiner called 'Barnsley Badger'. And anyone that pledged £70 will get a new cartridge game by RGCD titled ' Tiger Claw'.

While the previous retro hardware Kickstarter for Amiga users is fighting for a Kickstarter success, Chris Wilkins book ' The Story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels' has already smashed it's Kickstarter goal and is getting ever closer to the big £40,000! The project creator who is also behind the ZX Spectrum Story in pixels vol 1, vol 2 and The History of U.S. Gold is now hoping to reach further stretch goals such as a collaboration with RESET magazine, a brand new album from Linus and GH, and if over £55K : Each book will come in a presentation box.
Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict - ZX Spectrum film Kickstarter success!
I'm sure many of you have noticed the influx of ZX Spectrum books, games and modifications, but a new ZX Spectrum film has just smashed through it's Kickstarter goal and there's still 29 days to go. It's the 'Memoirs of a Spectrum Addict - A tribute to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum ' film by Andy Remic. Classed as a full length documentary and raising over £1,624 so far, this Kickstarter of retro memories will be 120-180 minutes in length, which takes a detailed look at the ZX Spectrum, it's history, it's developers, it's games and it's fans!

So far we have featured both the announcement of Chris Wilkins 'The story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels' book Kickstarter and the extra pledge of a brand new game of 'Barnsley Badger' by Trevor Story and Georg Rottensteiner. But with the Kickstarter continuing to be a success, we have now been informed by Chris, that it has just got even better with a further announcement of a more feature packed game titled 'Tiger Claw' by RGCD.

Raising £20,867 pledged of a £20,000 goal with still 27 days to go, the project creator who is also the creator behind ZX Spectrum Story in pixels vol 1, vol 2 and The History of U.S. Gold is now hoping to reach further stretch goals such as a brand new album from Linus and GH, and if raised up to 55K : each book will come in a presentation box!
