Lure of the Temptress - A very good Adventure game as an Amiga-PC launchable file!

Here's a game many of you have heard of and probably seen being sold in a mighty haul, is the 1992 Adventure game ' Lure of the Temptress ' by Revolution Software. Which has since been re-released as an easily launchable PC file from the Amiga version thanks to The Company.PL. Originally released in June and available for the Atari ST, DOS and of course the Amiga, this game was the companies first game using the Virtual Theatre engine, which was also used in other games such as the incredible Beneath a Steel Sky!

MS-DOS Games in 1991 - A retro trip back in time by DOS Nostalgia

When I was growing up I used to love playing games such as Dizzy on my Amstrad and then much later the Amiga spending entire summer holidays on games such as Dragons Breath, Deuteros and Monkey Island on my Amiga 500. What a golden era of gaming, that for its time couldn't be beat, at least not until MS-DOS came about anyway especially with all those incredible titles that were to follow. I mean seriously, getting a 386 or a 486 from your dad with a turbo button and playing Strike Commander or Lands of Lore with fully digitised speech was a joy to behold! Thus in celebration of some of those MS-DOS games, DOS nostalgia has done an hour length video featuring MS-DOS games from 1991.

Hired Guns - An Amiga Sci-fi experience like no other on the PC

As its my Birthday today, I thought it best to celebrate by mentioning one of the best games on the Amiga, 'Hired Guns', which has been packaged together with FS-UAE for playability on the PC by GamesNostalgia. First released in 1993 for both Amiga and DOS, this game was the highlight of my gaming youth developed by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis. It put you in charge of 4 mercenaries lured into a trap! A weapons proving ground whereby you must defend yourself against genetically engineered creatures.

Catacomb 3D series and Keen Dreams - DOS based games coming over to the Amiga

From 1991 and onwards ID Software with publishing rights by Softdisk Publishing released the first person shooter game Catacomb 3-D : The Descent as a prototype of the Wolfenstein 3D engine. It was released as an EGA title for PC DOS as a dark fantasy style game, with the player controlling a Wizard named as ' Petton Everhail ' on a quest to defeat the evil lich Nemesis through a number of catacomb's. Although it was regarded as a landmark title for its time for first person graphics, it is now being ported over to the Amiga with a number of other games also in the pipeline such as the lost episode of classic platformer Commander Keen ' Keen Dreams '.

Matt Chat interviews Volker Wertich, Father of The Settlers

When I was a teen one game I remember so fondly was the early 90's game ' The Settlers ' on the Amiga. It had oodles of charm and character and became one of my most addictive game series ever released on both the Amiga and then later the PC. You could build your very own little village, from woodcutters to farms and bakeries while watching your little people go about their daily chores with birds chirping in the background. It was just a shame that Ubisoft decided to wreck the later games and become a shadow of its former self. Thankfully Matt Chat was on hand this month to help relive those glorious days as he has interviewed ' Volker Wertich ' about the Commodore VIC-20 and C-64, the Amiga, Emerald Mine, and yes, The Settlers.

Indie Retro News & RGDS Podcast Amiga DOS Special!

I'm sure many of you will agree with me, but Aaron White is becoming a bit of a legend in the Amiga scene. He has done countless albums now going right back to 2014. From C64 remixes and 80's tracks, to Amiga PDs and even a more recent Sega Master System Hits Vol 1. But for me although these are mighty fine releases, I always like to challenge people to push their skills to the limit. So I said to him, " Can you convert PC MS-DOS tracks to the Amiga and if so, can you convert these? " Sure enough after some teasing over the weekend, here we have ' The Indie Retro News and RGDS Podcast Amiga DOS Special ' from Aaron White of RGDS Podcast. A small part 1 album, with remixed game soundtracks such as One Must Fall, Aladdin, Doom, Empire Civil War and The Lion King.

Over 1 hour of retro footage takes us back to a great time of DOS gaming!

Technobuffalo has come across possibly the greatest DOS based retro gaming video you'll see this side of 2016. An era of gaming between the 80's and 90's when games were loaded through a command line operating system, that required at least some knowledge with Autoexec editing. It was an era full of incredible games that even matched the Amiga in brilliance, such as Prince of Persia, The Secret of Monkey Island, Lands of Lore, Warcraft, Day of the Tentacle and many many more. Hell, even today games are still being played using the emulator DosBox or purchased through our favourite site GOG that have been tinkered with to get them to work on modern systems. As such this video by DOS Nostalgia shows us over 1 hour of DOS gaming footage, from Rayman all the way up to Shannara by Legend Entertainment Company. If  you haven't seen this you are missing out!

Ur-Quan Masters HD Remix - Space classic remade and freely available!

Released back in probably the best gaming years of the 90's, this space adventure/combat/RPG was an all time classic for the PC that has been un-matched by many even today, it also had a number of ports. Originally titled Star Control II, then remade by fans to The Ur-Quan Masters we then had the HD version called Ur-Quan Masters HD.  But now we have another version to play, this is the UQMHD Remix, a fork of The Urquan Masters HD (aka the hi-res version of the open-source version of Star Control II) that not only fixes many of the bugs in the HD vanilla version, but remakes it with remixed music and many more features to make the game more palatable for both new and old players,

In 1993 Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive released one of the best top down war based shooters I have ever played in my life (War has never been so much fun).  It was none other than Cannon Fodder (wiki)! An action-strategy shooter first released for the Amiga and then ported to DOS, Atari ST, Archimedes, Jaguar, Mega Drive, SNES and 3DO. But the news of today comes from Robert Crossfield, the developer behind the open source port of the original as ' Open Fodder '.

Alley Cat - Atari/DOS cat classic coming to the ZX Spectrum

Probably one of the oldest games on our website is Bill Williams and published by Synapse Softwares 'Alley Cat' for the Atari 8bit in 1983 and MS-DOS in 1984. Playing as Freddy the Cat, your objective was to perform challenges such as catching mice in a persons home in order to reach his Cat love, Felicia. For what was a very odd game indeed with Cheese the size of an entire room, and a humorous cat falling behind the fence, Alley Cat is now being ported over to the ZX Spectrum by Destr and aims to be just as fun as the original.
