Eye of the Beholder - Homage - A Fatbot Games Fan Video!

It wasn't long ago that we gave a huge shout out to Fatbot Studio's dungeon crawler of Vaporum. Which turned the fantasy style gameplay on its head as a rather epic Steampunk crawler with strange mechanical beasts, contraptions and rooms of steam based machinery. Well it seems as if the developers haven't been sitting idle since its release, as just like us as fans of Eye of the Beholder, which helped shape a genre ( and their game ), they have shown us an Eye of the Beholder - Homage video, as a thanks to that great classic.

The CRPG Book Update 19 - 528 pages of classic RPG goodness including images!

Throughout my youth I've always been an RPG gamer, I used to love playing games such as Dungeon Master, Lands of Lore, Albion or even the later style of Fallout, Baldurs Gate and Dark Messiah. Especially when I get to read a grand story of the adventures ahead, while choosing my own legendary hero to battle demon like foes and the hunt for lost treasures. There's just so many RPG's I've played and enjoyed, that it's also why I'm mentioning this latest announcement of 'The CRPG Book', which has 528 pages of highly detailed write ups about the games, including a mass load of RPG images.

The Shadows of Sergoth - A Dungeon Crawler on the Amstrad CPC? HELL YEH!

I'm almost in complete disbelief as I've only just been contacted by Chris94 about a brand new dungeon crawler called ' The Shadows of Sergoth ', that is not only a homebrew game, but it's a first person grid based dungeon crawler and made for the Amstrad CPC 6128. Now you may wonder as to why I'm in shock, that's because these types of games as a homebrew are a rarity on the Amstrad (it's mainly platformers and shooters), but from the footage below it looks very impressive indeed!

AEON OF SANDS - A dungeon love letter to classic PC and Amiga games of the 90s.

Grimoire isn't the only game we should be talking about today, as we've also heard from the developers Two Bits Kid, based in Germany, that the dungeon crawler ' AEON OF SANDS ' is basically finished, although 90% of the mazes are in alpha state with all dialogues and graphics. Now for those of you that haven't heard of this game before, this dungeon crawler harks back to the days of Eye of Beholder or Lands of Lore and is a "Dungeon Adventure" story-driven RPG love letter to the golden Amiga, PC classics of the 90's.

MS-DOS Games in 1991 - A retro trip back in time by DOS Nostalgia

When I was growing up I used to love playing games such as Dizzy on my Amstrad and then much later the Amiga spending entire summer holidays on games such as Dragons Breath, Deuteros and Monkey Island on my Amiga 500. What a golden era of gaming, that for its time couldn't be beat, at least not until MS-DOS came about anyway especially with all those incredible titles that were to follow. I mean seriously, getting a 386 or a 486 from your dad with a turbo button and playing Strike Commander or Lands of Lore with fully digitised speech was a joy to behold! Thus in celebration of some of those MS-DOS games, DOS nostalgia has done an hour length video featuring MS-DOS games from 1991.

Eye of the Beholder 4 - Fan sequel to an incredible Dungeon Crawler (WIP)!

I was just about to finish for the day with so much writing already done, when an eye opening picture appeared in our Dungeon Crawlers Facebook group. That picture showed the words ' Eye of the Beholder 4 ', and according to the site where it came from. Eye of the Beholder 4 is the next episode of the classic masterpiece series by a fan based developer, taking place 100 years after the Assault of the Myth Drannor and 300 years after the death of Xanathar the great beholder!

Eye of the Beholder AGA - MAC/PC playable Amiga dungeon crawler classic with Automap!

Only just recently I found a new site that enabled people to play retro games without all the hassle of setting anything up, it was just a download and run experience. But because many of their games are DOS based and being sold, we cannot mention any of their PC games. However that doesn't mean we can't mention Amiga games and it's today's special treat which may appeal to our avid dungeon crawler fans that was originally from the Amiga. The game we are going to shout about is in fact Eye of the Beholder, the Amiga AGA version which was written by Bertrand/CFou to support AGA (256 colors) GFX with automapping. - For the PC version you can buy it on GOG as well as Eye of the Beholder 2 and 3!

Eye of the Beholder 1 & 2 AGA Versions - An Amiga Forever install guide!

Way back in 2013 I gave you the full guide of how to get these two amazing FREE dungeon crawlers, Eye of the Beholder 1 and 2 AGA editions working through FS-UAE. I also provided two links to be able to download them and run straight off, but both of these were still a little fiddly and was liable to the odd crash. But now, fast forward to 2016 using Amiga Forever, I'll show you how to run and play two of the the most incredible Dungeon Crawler ever to appear on the Amiga and PC by Westwood Associates (Westwood Studios) with full automapping!

Dungeon Kingdom - Enjoyable Dungeon Crawler gets a highly requested feature added!

Although we do gaming write ups, we tend not to mention every single update that happens to games while they are in Early Access. A game during that stage of feedback development, can be a completely different beast to when they are first mentioned, plus it's hugely time consuming. But when it comes to Hydro Games dungeon crawler of ' Dungeon Kingdom ', of which we did an early preview. Not only is it an enjoyable experience to play so far, but the developers have today announced a number of features added to the game, with one of them being a highly requested Auto-map!

A dungeon crawler quiz from Zooperdan - Can you name them all?

Our good friend Zooperdan who not only owns the dungeon crawlers website and did the recent Dungeon Kingdom preview, has given us and our readers a really good challenge, to see if we consider ourselves to be veteran dungeon crawler aficionados. So those of you who remember playing games such as Dungeon Master or Eye of the Beholder, with its creepy tight corridor dungeons and grid based movement with enemies traps and puzzles, may well find this quiz to be a worthy yet fun challenge to take part in.

Dungeon Kingdom - A retro inspired dungeon crawler but is it any good? (Preview)

It’s that time again - a new grid based first person dungeon crawler has been released and I’ve been really looking forward to this one! I've been following it’s progress for a while and building up a fair amount of anticipation and expectation. Now it’s out, and even if it’s in Early Access right now, I could not resist giving it a play through. I’m normally quite reluctant to playing Early Access games, since I’ve more than once witnessed developers gladly taking my money and then abandoning further development.

Dungeon Kingdom - HydroGames aims to impress with this Dungeon Crawler!

Dungeon Crawlers it's a time to pick up your axes, collect your shields and swords and ready those spells, as the developers Hydro-Games have finally announced the early access arrival of their very impressive looking dungeon crawler of ' Dungeon Kingdom : Sign of the Moon ', which is now on Steam! Of all the games I've been waiting for in that Dungeon Master/EOB style, this one could well be on par with the modern Legend of Grimrock as it has more than just a rich story to keep you going!

Somebody hold me as I'm about to fall over in disbelief, as GOG has announced an incredible retro RPG experience of Forgotten Realms (Dungeons and Dragons), which has now appeared on GOG's digital library. Finally after all these years, you too can play some of the finest RPG's ever released going way back to the Amiga and the DOS era. That's hours and hours worth of RPG Dungeon Crawling, levelling up and enemy hacking!

Forgotten Forces - Pixelated retro inspired dungeon crawler gets new footage

Another update today and this one comes from the developers Bumblebee, of the retro inspired dungeon crawler 'Forgotten Forces'. You may remember our previous write up which only featured one screen and the only information being that they are developing in Unity 5 with PC/Mac/Linux support, but today the developers have released new screenshots and a brand new trailer!

Forgotten Forces - Early dungeon crawler tease!

For some reason we haven't seen many in development dungeon crawlers lately, even on our Facebook group. So we was pleased to hear from Bumblebee of a new game called ' Forgotten Forces', that they are developing in Unity 5, with graphics which are being made in Photoshop and PyxelEdit. Currently aiming for a PC/Mac/Linux release, this dungeon experience will be somewhat more PC-progression, story and battle-biased than puzzles, so more Eye of the Beholder and less LOG. As of yet we don't have any more details but rest assured as soon as we know more, we will as always give you the heads up.

Eye of the Beholder - Dungeon Crawler homebrewed for C64!

As I was trawling the internet looking for a decent dungeon crawler soundtrack, I came across a set of Eye of the Beholder releases that piqued my interest. Although we have featured pretty much every one of them so far, I did not expect to come across an Eye of the Beholder remake for C64. First released by Instinct in 2006 and stalled development through 2011, Eye of the Beholder 1 C64 features an impressive smooth grid based movement which I had not seen before on such an old system such as this.
