Wolf3D - A SuperCPU release of Wolfenstein 3D on the C64/128!
In 1992 many of us had the pleasure of playing id Software's incredible first person shooter ' Wolfenstein 3D ' for MS-DOS. It was the second major release after Commander Keen and featured a unique 3D game engine with multiple enemy types such as Nazi soldiers and dogs, and multiple weapon types to defend yourself with such as guns and knifes. It is a game that is still loved to this day and it's why it came as a shocking surprise to us, to see a port of Wolfenstein 3D (based on the original ID software source code release) has been made available on the C64/128 - Requiring a SuperCPU v2 and 16MB RAM.

One of our readers ' Jeff Cotten ' has recently informed us that Monolith Productions and GT Interactive Software's gory first person shooter which we know as Blood, is getting an unofficial Windows port via Java by AxeleratorM210. Originally released as shareware in 1997 and the full version in 1997 for MS-DOS, this game was one of the bloodiest and horrific first person shooters of the era, as it featured zombies, undead butchers, cultists, hell hounds, giant spiders and further deadly enemies that would cover the floor in blood!
-=Alien Enemy: Dangerous=- - A preview of an early engine alpha on the Amiga
On the topic of first person shooters although not in the same league as the recent Project Warlock, here's a new tease for an Amiga game that is currently being shown off as a very early engine alpha, -=Alien Enemy: Dangerous=, coded by mastaszek for the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200. This footage shows us a glimpse of a game that is using some graphics from the hit PC game Quake, while having sound effects such as "Headshot" from Unreal Tournament.

Uropa 2 : The Ulterior Colony and Genetic Species - Even more DamienD Amiga CD to HD conversions!
The Amiga is getting a lot of attention lately, as after previously releasing Final Odyssey, The Strangers and Foundation as fully playable Amiga games without the need for the original Amiga CD. DamienD has moved on to Uropa 2 : The Ulterior Colony and Genetic Species, which as of today completes the "Vulcan Software MegaSeries Vol. 1-4" collection first released in the late 90's. Both of these are sci-fi based, whereas Uropa is an isometric adventure, Genetic Species is a first person shooter which has similarities to GLOOM.

It was the second major release after Commander Keen and featured a unique 3D game engine with multiple enemy types such as Nazi soldiers and dogs, and multiple weapon types to defend yourself with such as guns and knifes. As the 8-bit fantasy console Pico-8 gets improvements to its engine, people are pushing its boundaries more and more. As a result, more and more raycasting demos and games are coming out of the woodwork. CD32X-men Mind Games - Unreleased 32X title makes an appearance on the Amiga
We are only one day into 2017 and already the news is making a highlight on the Amiga and Amiga CD32, as we are welcoming ' CD32X-men: Mind Games ' into the new year. This is a rather unusual first person shooter that was actually going to be released on the Sega 32x by Scavenger, who are well known for making great games on the Sega Mega Drive. Sadly this game never made it to the 32x as it was cancelled in 1996 and was never seen again, at least until now. Thanks once again to the hardwork of the Amiga community, CD32X-men: Mind Games has been released on the Amiga and Amiga CD32.
Warlock Revenge - A first person shooter inspired by DOS classics aims for a Greenlight success
To be honest although I do play the odd modern day first person shooter such as DOOM or Battlefield 4, I'm still a huge fan of those retro classics such as Blake Stone or even Wolfenstein 3D, which are both playable through Dosbox. So it came as a surprise to me to learn of a new first person shooter aiming for a Steam Greenlight success, that is inspired by those classics but with a dark Gothic overtone. This is ' Warlock Revenge '; a retro look first person shooter that is coming to the PC and developed by Narayan Games.
Brutal Doom 64 - New bloody trailer for next week's release!
Some time back now SGtMarkIV released the jaw dropping Brutal Doom, which was pretty much the bloodiest Doom mod we've played, with more gibs and guts than you could ever need in the classic Doom. But now SGtMarkIV has not only released a brand new trailer for Brutal Doom 64, the next PC overhaul in his line up from the Nintendo 64, but he has also announced the release date of next week October, 30th!
Catacomb 3D series and Keen Dreams - DOS based games coming over to the Amiga
From 1991 and onwards ID Software with publishing rights by Softdisk Publishing released the first person shooter game Catacomb 3-D : The Descent as a prototype of the Wolfenstein 3D engine. It was released as an EGA title for PC DOS as a dark fantasy style game, with the player controlling a Wizard named as ' Petton Everhail ' on a quest to defeat the evil lich Nemesis through a number of catacomb's. Although it was regarded as a landmark title for its time for first person graphics, it is now being ported over to the Amiga with a number of other games also in the pipeline such as the lost episode of classic platformer Commander Keen ' Keen Dreams '.
SplitWolf 1.0 - The only SplitScreen 2-player coop engine for Wolfenstein 3D!
In 1992 ID Software with publishing rights by Apogee Software released the incredible first person shooter ' Wolfenstein 3D ' for MS-DOS. It was the second major release after Commander Keen and featured a unique 3D game engine with multiple enemy types such as Nazi soldiers and dogs, and multiple weapon types to defend yourself with, such as guns and knifes. A critically claimed game for its time with many thousands of copies sold if not millions by now, is just about to get so much better as SplitWolf 1.0, the only SplitScreen 2-player coop engine for Wolf3D has been released!
Shadow Warrior - MS-DOS FPS making its way on to the Amiga
Another great heads up by Solo Kazuki is the MS-DOS first person shooter ' Shadow Warrior ', which is being ported over to the Amiga by Modern Vintage Gamer. Originally developed by 3D Realms and published by GT Interactive back in 1997, Shadow Warrior had an improved engine from the one used in Duke Nukem 3D and featured 3D voxels instead of 2D sprites, usable inventory items, and violent head slicing katanas, Uzi's and many more to make this a bloody fine game! - The sequel is good too.
Saturn Icarus - Work in progress retro inspired first person shooter
Don't get me wrong the latest Doom release is a damn fine game, but in all honesty I prefer playing the much older types, the original Wolfenstein 3D or in fact the original Doom released back in the early 90's. So it stands to reason why I just had to play Mischa's first person retro inspired game ' Saturn Icarus ', that's available to download on the PC. Please be aware however that it is a work in progress title and as such a lot of what makes these games so good is missing.
Brutal Doom 64 - New bloody video featuring 24 minutes of BD64 gameplay
During the early part of this year SGtMarkIV released the latest Brutal Doom version of v20b. Pretty much the bloodiest Doom mod we've played with more gibs and guts than you could ever need in the classic Doom. But now SGtMarkIV has once again impressed us with his talents with a brand new video, featuring 24 minutes of Brutal Doom 64 gameplay. The next overhaul in his line up from the Nintendo 64!
The Dark - Unique ZX Spectrum shooter gets an improved re-release
If you're thinking this is going to be just another ZX Spectrum platformer, you'd be oh so wrong. Especially as ' The Dark ' by Oleg Origin, is a rather unique ZX Spectrum first person shooter, that has similarities to the retro PC game of Quake. First released in 1997, you play as the warrior Alexander and are on a personal quest to return to your native land, to free his country from an evil dark force, that had cross the border of the land of winds. In a game that has now been re-released as an improved version, you will come across many strange beasts that must be killed with a sharp stab or a bullet from a gun!
