Contradiction - A recommended retro-styled action indie-game!
Are you bored and looking for something to play that doesn't require an emulator or a download on to a work computer? ;) Then look no further than Games by Michi's latest addition of ' Contradiction ', which is not only free to play but you can play it right now in your browser. This game that takes its inspiration from Contra as an action shooter, puts you in control of Commando Billy Lancer of the Contradiction unit on a mission to take down Dr Hiorishita and his bionic horrors!
Apocryph - Brutal FPS which looks a bit like Painkiller goes early access!
Something for everyone this week as now we look towards a bloody and brutal first person shooter called ' Apocryph ', developed by Bigzur using Unity. If you remember games such as Hexen, Heretic or Painkiller, then you'll know what to expect with this game, as not only is it set in a dark fantasy world of violence, magic, dark rituals and dangers, but you'll be facing horrific monsters, nasty traps, secret passages and the will to survive with a mighty weapon at your disposal!
Juniper Keep Assassins - A retro inspired action platformer that's pretty cool!
Putting aside the homebrew retro games for the moment as we are now looking towards a new action platformer called ' Juniper Keep Assassins ' developed by Crowno for the A Game By Its Cover 2017. This game which I found today, came across as a mix between Switchblade on the Amiga, with a hint of Ninja Gaiden blended with some sort of cute anime look. It features colorful graphics, smooth animations, wall climbing abilities, a great retro inspired chiptune and plenty of enemies to defeat with a variety of moves.
Code name Hell Squad - Amiga CD to HD as a playable sci-fi action adventure!
No sooner had we mentioned DamienD's Amiga CD to Hard Drive conversion of the high quality isometric game 'Wasted Dreams', that another game was also converted over and that was the action adventure ' Code name Hell Squad ', which again was also developed by the same team Digital Dreams Entertainment and released in 2000. Shockingly enough some say this is one of the last ever games released commercially on the system and if it wasn't for these developers contacting the original dev's of this game, when it was known as Hellpigs by Classica Entertainment (link), it probably would've never seen the light of day!
DOS creation contest - DOS based games on IRN! Awesome :)
Call me an old timer but I love talking about the days of DOS, a time when the only thing in front of you other than a computer was a blinking command prompt waiting for you to run a game such as C:\, C:\Dune and Dune.exe. So to hear from high-voltage.cz that they were running a DOS creation contest in which you had to make an executable under MS-DOS 6.22 at a 486DX , made my eyes sparkle like a kid in a candy store.
The Sword of Ianna - A new game launches on MSX2 and ZX Spectrum that will blow you away!
This year has been all out awesome for retro goodness, what with Argus coming out on the C64, unreleased games finding their way to the Amiga, and of course Speccy games doing the rounds. But if you have an MSX2 or yes a ZX Spectrum, you really should prepare yourselves to be amazed, as RetroWorks, the same team behind Vade Retro, The Charm, and Teodoro can't fly, has finally announced the release of one of the most anticipated of games 'The Sword of Ianna'
Monster World RPG - A charming RPG inspired by the Monster World/Wonder Boy series
I seriously can't believe I missed out on this when it was launched in August of this year, as we have only just found out there has been a release of the 'Monster World RPG'; a large fan game developed using RpgMaker2003, and inspired by the 1980's Monster World/Wonder Boy series. Now if you've been following our site for sometime, you would've know that not only was there an enhanced Amiga alpha version of Wonderboy in Monster Land, but Wonderboy in Monster Land was released and Monster Boy And The Cursed Kingdom is still in development. This latest Wonder Boy goes a way from the platforming style however and goes all out RPG, which for some might be a good thing or a bad thing!
Rod-Land - If you've never played this game, you really should!
Of all the games given The.Company.PL treatment, which means you can easily play this game on a PC and sometimes with a trainer, has to be the fantastic 1990's Arcade Platformer 'Rod-Land'; a game you can pick up and play today and enjoy just as much as you did all those years ago. Now it wasn't always an Arcade game as any Amiga owner would tell you, as this lovely Anime based game also came out on the Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, C64, NES, and even the Game Boy, with the Amiga version ranked rather highly indeed!
Sqrxz Anthology Compilation - There's lots of Sqrxzing going on in this Amiga/PC package
Right from the word go we've been featuring pretty much all of the Amiga releases of Retroguru's run and jump platformer called Sqrxz; a challenging game series which put you in control of a lovable Rabbit and featured plenty of platforming fun as you move blocks about, avoiding enemies and collecting food, ice marbles or even shiny rings, such as in Sqrxz 3, in which you had to free your girlfriend kidnapped by the evil Yve. This rather lovely gaming series as the Amiga versions, Sqrxz, Sqrxz 2: Two Seconds Until Death, Sqrxz 3: Adventure For Love and Sqrxz 4: Cold Cash has been packaged up via TheCompany.PL and can be played on the PC
The Unofficial Gameboy Jam - Another game development jam in a Game Boy style
If you've had enough of ZX Spectrum games and want something fresh to experience, then you'll be pleased to know we have recently been informed that The Unofficial Gameboy Jam is now finished and there are 38 rather cool gameboy styled games to play. Just as in the case of the official #gbjam, developers from around the world came forward and created lots of lovely GameBoy themed games in the rules set by the #UOGBJAM, such as the GameBoy screen resolution of 160px x 144px and only 4 colours.
Fire Force - A Military action shooter from 1992 you might want to play
Put aside your Call of Duty and your Battlefield game, as we are going retro with the Amiga and the recently exe updated ' Fire Force ', that was just added to The Company.PL website with an updated 2.6 engine, improved game speed, improved trainer and a list of default keys! This rather cool action game released in 1992 by Ice could almost be described as a Green Beret clone, although compared to that game in this one you could change your load out, cut throats, plant explosives and even enter buildings!
LOWREZJAM - Over 200 rather cool and low rez games to play
A lot of good games have appeared today, but it's time to go beyond that and smash the barrier, as JackOatley's #LOWREZJAM 2017 is nearly finished and already there's 200 rather cool games to play! This unusual game Jam, in which people around the world came together to create their own uniquely styled games with a set resolution of 64x64 pixels. Features a wide range of genres ranging from an Another World inspired game, to a beat em up called 64 FISTS and even a F-Zero type game called Subshred!
Project-X - An Amiga Shoot em up you've just got to play
One of the greatest Shoot em ups I can remember, wasn't the all time classic R-Type, but Team 17's Project-X, which was not only released on the Amiga in 1992, but later ported to MS-DOS. It was a game for its time that excelled in graphics, sound and awesome wave blasting enemies that not only featured cool weaponry, but great powerups such as side defence, missiles and even speed ups. But if you've never played it and want to have a go, then Gamesnostalgia have done a PC/MAC packed version with inclusive Amiga emulator and game file.
Centiplode - Classic Arcade inspired game has crawled its way onto your mobile!
Surprisingly I don't play many games on my mobile, mainly for the fact many of them are rather rubbish, but today Gazzapper Games contacted us to let us know their Centipede inspired game has come to your Android and it's well worth playing. You see Centipede was released as a vertical fixed shooter by Atari in 1980 and also featured in the more recent Pixel movie, the game had you defending your garden against not just spiders and scorpions but also a rather nasty splitting Centipede!
Donkey Kong Plus - A fan game based on an Arcade Nintendo classic!
If you've been living in a cave or just too young, you'd probably wouldn't remember one of the greatest retro games of all time, the 1981 Nintendo game ' Donkey Kong '. A game in which you played as Mario that must avoid obstacles across a number of platforms, with sometimes a hammer in hand to save a damsel in distress from a giant ape called Donkey Kong. If however you do remember the game or just want to experience a freely available fan version, then here's one for you ' Donkey Kong Plus ' by Gojisaurus_Rex.
Sewers of d'Oh! - Ultrabrite's Arkanoid inspired game on the Pico-8 is great!
If you remember Arkanoid; an arcade game first developed by Taito in 1986 and Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh in 1987, with the bat like device scrolling from side to side at the bottom of the screen, bouncing an orb back and forth and smashing blocks for a high score, then you are really going to enjoy Ultrabrite's latest Pico-8 and PC browser based game of ' Sewers of D'oh!', which is free to play!
Assembly Summer 2017 - Gamedev competition games to play!
This Summer didn't just bring us the start of the ZX-Dev conversions compo, but we were kindly informed the other day that the Assembly Summer 2017 computer festival had finished and lots of demo's were shown off as a result. In fact it wasn't just music, graphics and scene demos that made an appearance, but there was also a gamedev compo which his since given many the chance to download and play ranging from a 1st place winner Crisis Wing - Caravan Edition by Pieslice Productions to the last place Bulldozage Inc. by Team Bulldozage.

Our good friend Konstantinos Dimopoulos aka Mr Gnomeslair has recently contacted us through our twitter feed about his latest sci-fi mini adventure game Earthling Priorities, which is now available to play for FREE! This game developed after more than three years spent in quasi-development by a team of people such as Daniele Giardini, Jim Spanos and Chris Christodoulou, is a short, sci-fi, comedic adventure that gives a bit of a nod to that golden classic Space Quest!
Worm Wars 9.0 - Play with lots of worms in this Tron/Snake-style arcade game!
Another new addition to the retro line up, is Amigan Software's latest update ' Worm Wars 9.0 ', which is an advanced Tron/Snake-style arcade game for up to 4 simultaneous players, available for AmigaOS 2-3, AmigaOS 4 and Windows. In this game you must either win against other players or the AI by getting the highest possible score and not wiping out all of your health by touching tails or other oddities on the screen.
Whitewater Madness - Move over Toobin you've got destructive competition (Atari STe)
I'm pretty sure many of you remember the Arcade game 'Toobin' by Atari Games, a game which featured two player fun in a competitive river race as you bounced off each other avoiding obstacles to get to the finish line. But now imagine a very similar game but this time you're in a powerful ship of some kind travelling through time to collect energy cells while also shooting at deadly hazards such as giant water beasts. Welcome to ' Whitewater Madness ' a game which was under development in 1989 by Scott Williamson and Ed Schneider designed specifically for their new Atari STe computer!
