Super CLASH Bros - A mad retro smash up gets a new build
Can you believe this? A talented developer by the name of Clash Dev Ato, has only gone and made a Smash Bros inspired game freely available on Gamejolt and itch.io! Well the game is clearly a tribute to the much maligned Super Smash Bros , one of Nintendo's flag ship game franchises. Super CLASH Bros is a fan-made crossover game featuring a battle mode and adventure mode with many famous characters kept very accurate to their original games!
Down Ward - A Gameboy Inspired Platformer is Available in Early Access

Super Skelemania - Play as an acrobatic skeleton in this creepy platformer
We don't just love retro games but indie games as well, and so it's time to mention Benal's Adventure Platformer ' Super Skelemania ', which wasn't just a Steam Greenlight success but has since been released via Gamejolt and Steam! This game that was teased some time ago as a demo puts you in control of a rather frantic skeleton, with some seriously cool moves, such as diving, rolling and even the ability to extend and skull bash!
The Crown Stones Mirrah - Metroidvania-styled retro game gets a demo!
I know some of you don't like the term 'Metroidvania', a cross between Metroid and Castlevania, but how about if the game is of a similar type but is also inspired by Demon’s Crest and even Blackthorne, would you be interested? Well if you are, this is ' The Crown Stones Mirrah '; a very gory looking action platformer that doesn't just have lovely pixelated graphics but is inspired by an RPG book called “Spiritum o Reino dos Mortos”, with the game set in the same universe of that book.
Robbie Swifthand and the Orb of Mysteries - Challenging platformer via pre-early access demo
Per-Ola Eriksson has once again contacted us about a game he thinks is worthy of a mention and one you might enjoy. Titled as ' Robbie Swifthand and the Orb of Mysteries ', this game was developed using Unity, available as Pre-Early Access, and can be described as a mega death platformer that will frustrate you to hell and back, but will keep you coming back for more. Yes indeed if games such as Meat Boy or VVVVV are your favourite kind of torture, then check out the latest demo trailer and give it a go!
Dead Horizon - Pull the trigger and blast villains in this short point n clicker!
Ask most people who remember the Arcades in the early 90's and I'm sure they will tell you of a time of not side scrolling shooters and jumping platformers, but also of a time of blasting away enemies with gun in hand faced at the screen and wiping out gun wielding foes such as those found in Mad Dog McCree! Now if you do remember those games which also included Wild Gunmen, Namco Quick & Crash, then it might be worth your time checking out this rather unique shooting game called Dead Horizon developed by 14HoursProductions.
Galaxy Rebel Force - Multi-directional arcade shooter with retro inspirations
We get a lot of messages from developers showing us their indie games and asking us to write about them, well to be honest although most of them do appear on our site, I always like to go back to the little guy and give them as much support as I can. One such developer that certainly has my backing is Hijong Park with his latest game Galaxy Rebel Force. Classed as a multi-directional arcade shooter, this game is inspired by asteroids and sinistar and will challenge you back and forth as you blast away lots of enemies on screen, with only your shield and charge shots to keep you safe
Peridium - A brilliant Adventure game with a classic horror movie vibe
I'm sure there's not a person out there that hasn't heard of John Carpenter's 'The Thing'; a 1980's horror film starring Kurt Russell set in an Antarctic research station against a horrific parasitic extraterrestrial lifeform. But would you like to play a game that feels very similar, and is an adventure point and click game by Powerhoof? You would good! Because here is 'Peridium', a short horror game where you play as Dr James Turner, who is about to have his life turned upside down stationed at an Antarctic research base studying ancient fungal organisms buried deep below the ice.

Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror - Unofficial fan game released by Raymanni
Truth be told we are always mentioning Dizzy fan games, Zelda fan games or even games such as those related to Sonic or Mario, but there's one character we haven't mentioned before and that's of our personal favourite, Rayman. During these last few months I've been addicted to Rayman Origins on the Xbox 360 and have even played the classic Rayman on the PS1, but this Rayman titled as Rayman: The Dark Magician's Reign of Terror, is a fan game released by Raymanni for the PC.
Treasures of Ali-Gar - A free PC game inspired by VIC-20 Key-Quest!
Gar Benjamin is really kicking it up a notch in the retro style as after releasing the enjoyable Atlantic Crisis, he's now gone and released Treasures of Ali-Gar, which is a free PC game inspired by Key-Quest on the VIC-20. Available as an early access game you play as a friendly Wizard on the hunt for mighty treasure in what was once the evil wizard Ali-Gar's castle. Along the way you'll come across menacing forces who are now guarding the treasure and will stop at nothing to do you harm.
DreadStar - A wicked PC shoot em up that's in development with ZX Spectrum tunes!
Growing up there was nothing more satisfying than playing top down scrolling shoot em ups such as the fantastic classic Tyrian 2000, which is also available on GOG. I'm also a bit of a sucker for bullet hell shooters that just don't stop with the constant flood of bullets across your gaming screen. But this game ' DreadStar 'by AugmentedIrreality takes the best out of this genre, adds a few unique gaming touches and includes a high grade chiptune soundtrack. This game is also in development as early access but does give you a taste of what to come as a free PC download.
Kung Fu Guns - A new #BitBitJam3 beat em up for the Amstrad CPC!
Only just yesterday we gave you the heads up for Radastan's ZX Spectrum game ' Princess Flame Adventure Time ', which was developed for the #BitbitJam3. Well another entry is worthy of a mention and again for the Jam, is ByteRealms classy Amstrad CPC beat em up ' Kung Fu Guns ', developed using the CPCtelera software! In this game you play as Sheriff Melissa Chase, also known as the Red Hot Princess, who must stop a gang of Chinese bandits with Kung Fu skills from terrorising the town.
Devil's Hand - A Hexen & Wolfenstein FPS mix you might want to play!
It's that time again when those Ludum Dare games start appearing, and only just recently the Ludum Dare had a set theme of Shapeshift, which meant that developers from around the globe came together to create their own games in the style of the current theme. One such game stood out and that was Roni SIlva's rather eye opening first person shooter of 'Devil's Hand ', which had the game play style of Wolfenstein mixed up with a nice taste of Hexen.
Cuckoo Castle - Seriously cool Gameboy styled platformer!
Looking through the corners of the interweb I decided to check up on the latest free games to see if any were worthy of posting on Indie Retro News for our readers. Sure enough I came across ' Cuckoo Castle ' developed by Rilem, using Construct 2 for the #gbjam. In this mini-metroidvania Gameboy style game, you play as a lonely knight seeking to defeat the evil force that resides in the Cuckoo Castle!
ICS 2 - Unforgiving browser based platformer gets a sequel
Good afternoon gamers, it's another day of news articles and to begin with we have ' ICS 2 ' developed by Miroko, that you may want to try if you like difficult platformers. In this browser based game you must traverse each level to reach the exit, but unlike the typical traps and check points that most games feature, this one has an unusual game element which adds to the playability of the game.
World's End Chapter 1 - Turn based strategy RPG featuring unique mechanics
We seem to have hit a low point in games lately that I feel deserve a mention on our site for your gaming pleasure. So in our hunt for something free and worth while, we came across Mezzanine Stairs comedic turn based strategy RPG, 'World's End Chapter 1'; which features more than your usual turn based antics. In fact, not only does it feature the ability to learn new skills, buying, finding and plundering items, but in this game you can actually use terrain, traps, obstacles and even foes' corpses to gain a tactical advantage.
Conquerors - Control your enemies and prevent the conquest of your planet.
I'm sure everyone of you has either heard or watched the movie Aliens, with those awful facehuggers lunging at peoples faces and implanting a rather nasty creature in their bellies. Well this game ' Conquerors ' developed by TheGreatThibal is very similar. But with this game, your planet is under threat and your family being wiped out, by the use of face hugging by crawling into enemy suits, you can control them and cause all out revenge on the ones who started the problem in the first place.
The Case of the Mysterious Maulings - Cluedo with style in your Browser!
Game Type : Adventure, Simulation
Developers : Teamtugboat
Developer Description : The good news: you've been invited to a classy dinner party in a stately gothic manor! The bad news: you're a hideous, bloodthirsty monster and you keep viciously murdering people. Avoid suspicion by pretending to search for the killer while framing the other party guests. It's kind of a "Clue" meets "Monkey Island" meets "Doom" meets a dating simulator kind of thing.
