Beyond Shadowgate - Never-before seen point and click adventure is brought to life after 30+ years in the vault

If you loved games such as Deju Vu, Uninvited or even my personal favorite Shadowgate, then you are going to love this news update! As trawling through both the GOG and Steam website, we have found out that Zojoi LLC together with GrahfMetal, has released the final version of the Kickstarter success of 'Beyond Shadowgate'. As in the words of the Steam page "The original design of the never-before seen point and click adventure is being brought to life after 30+ years in the vault - Beyond Shadowgate! This new PC game is being created by the designers of the original 8-bit hit Shadowgate and a leading 8-bit adventure studio!".

Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged - An incredible Adventure game from 1996 with glorious 4K visuals and more!

Well this is amazing news, as if you were a huge fan of the Broken Sword games, more especially the Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars, which is a graphic adventure developed by Revolution Software and published by Virgin Interactive back in 1996. Will pleased to know that this incredible game has been re-released as a Reforged edition through GOG and Steam. A new edition of the game which now features "glorious 4K visuals and iconic remastered audio, pitching intrepid American George Stobbart and fearless journalist Nico Collard into a journey of perilous adventures and ancient conspiracies".

Skald: Against the Black Priory - A dark fantasy game inspired by classic RPG's available now!

In the 80's many of us had the pleasure of playing Ultima IV on the C64, it was arguably one of the best RPG's ever released which featured a top down playing field with lush landscapes, dungeons to explore, characters to traverse with and many enemies to fight. So now as a complete surprise to us, High North Studios AS together with Raw Fury, have announced the release of Skald: Against the Black Priory: A game in which GOG says "is inspired by roleplaying games of yesteryear, combining modern design and compelling storytelling with authentic 8-bit looks and charms."

Tiny Thor - A stylish Jump'n'Run game featuring pixel art from Henk Nieborg and music by Chris Hülsbeck! [GOG/Steam]

Our good friend Tom has contacted us regarding a lovely looking game called 'Tiny Thor', that is not only available for PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch and Steam OS/Linux, but features true 16-bit pixel art from Henk Nieborg, and the musical talents of the legend that is Chris Hülsbeck! This game which is a Jump'n'Run, goes beyond the usual genre, and combines elements of both action, puzzles and even skills with a unique ability to use your hammer as a powerful throwing weapon.

Hibernaculum - This sci-fi horror dungeon crawler looks bloody awesome!

I've always been a fan of the dungeon crawler, there's something to be said about moving through a dark underground passage, looking for loot, avoiding traps and fighting the many beasts that lurk within. In actual fact I'm more inclined to play an old retro first person grid based crawler than any top down modern one that's released today. And on that note, here's a dungeon crawler you should be keeping an eye on, and it's Wormwood Studios in development sci-fi horror dungeon crawler of Hibernaculum.

Prodeus - A kick ass first-person shooter as a bloody inspiration to DOOM for PC!

I don't think there are that many people out there that don't know of Doom, it's a very blood thirsty 1993 science fiction horror-themed game by id Software. In Doom, players assume the role of a space marine, who must fight his way through the hordes of invading demons from Hell. But along comes Prodeus, an awesome looking first person shooter which pushes the boundaries of the level of violence as a Doom inspiration that's available today on both GOG and Steam!

Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition - A faithful restoration of a classic adventure game has been released (GOG/Steam/Xbox/PS4)

Coming as a complete surprise to us, especially as the game was delayed indefinitely back in 2020, we are pleased to announce that as of right now on GOG and Steam, you'll finally be able to play Nightdive Studios' Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition; A highly anticipated remaster of Westwood Studio's classic point-and-click adventure which has been made available for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC. To coincide with this news, there's a launch trailer which gives you a glimpse of what to expect in this "enhanced" edition.

Kathy Rain Director's Cut - Award-winning point-and-click adventure returns in the Director's Cut release!

Coming completely out of the blue and one I think I'll be hooked on this week as an Adventure fan, is Clifftop Games retro-ish point and click adventure of ' Kathy Rain : Director's Cut'; an enhanced version of the award winning game which is available for PC, Mac and Linux. As for the story, which every cool adventure game needs, you play as Kathy Rain, as she tries to come to terms with her own troubled past as she investigates the mysterious death of her recently deceased grandfather!

Saint Kotar - Loved Black Mirror? You might like this Adventure horror launching October 28th!

I think it's about time we put those homebrew games aside and look towards an Adventure game that may excite those who played that fantastic game 'Black Mirror' or even the classic 'Broken Sword'. As we've recently been informed through our email, that Red Martyr Entertainment's psychological horror point and click adventure game of 'Saint Kotar ' is coming to Epic, GOG and Steam as of October 28th. A game that draws its inspiration from the classics such as Broken Sword, Monkey Island and by the works from horror fiction writers such as H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe.

Secret Agent HD - A remaster of Apogee Software's Secret Agent is available on GOG and Steam

Apogee Software certainly released some great games in the 90's, games such as Monster Bash, Bio Menace and even our personal favorite Duke Nukem. Well one game that's received the remastered treatment and a game that many of us still remember to this day, is the 1992 game 'Secret Agent HD'. Yes indeed for those who loved playing this game back in the day, will pleased to know that Emberheart Games together with Apogee Software has remastered the game with all new graphics and a new episode as 'Secret Agent HD'

Huntdown - A kick ass shooter by Easy Trigger Games appears on GOG and Steam

If you're looking for a new indie game that's got plenty of action, kick ass moves and retro-aesthetics throughout, then have we got just the game for you! Welcome to 'Huntdown'; a retro style shoot em up that not only takes place in a post-apocalyptic Cyberpunk setting, but it also draws its inspiration from old arcade shooters like Contra and Metal Slug, while adding tactical elements like taking cover behind walls and alleys and jumping up and down from platforms just like in the Rolling Thunder games.

It feels like it was only just yesterday we were banging on the drums about Voidpoint's excellent first person shooter of 'Ion Fury'; a game created using the Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. It featured kick ass weaponry, hand crafted textures and sprites and much much more, in all of its hand-crafted pixelated glory. Asylum - Upcoming Psychological Horror gets an official Steam Demo!

As someone who loves paranormal TV shows and movies, there's something really chilling about the stories behind Asylums, especially with the dark decaying rooms and history of human suffering. So to hear that the creators of the cult sleeper hit Scratches and the haunting Serena, who we know as Senscape had announced today that its long term development project of Asylum had been teased with a new demo, we just had to sit up and take notice.

Cathedral - Classy NES-inspired 8-bit adventure out now on GOG and Steam

In 2016 Indie Retro News was one of the first sites to give you an updated look at Decemberborn's in development NES inspired 8bit adventure ' Cathedral ', which looks to have the charm of those retro classics while having cool platforming dungeons, unique aesthetics, new items, baddies to fight and puzzles in a world filled with secrets and side-quests. Well that same game has once again appeared in our inbox, but this time with an official announcement that it is now available on GOG and Steam!

Master of Magic - A classic 4x strategy game by Microprose reviewed by DarkwyndPT

Like I said in my previous review, this time we’ll take a look at one of my personal favourite games of all times and perhaps the most in-depth game I’ve ever played, Master of Magic. Master of Magic is a 4X strategy game developed by Simtex and published by MicroProse. It was originally released in 1994 for DOS and ported for the PC-98 in 1996.

Don't get me wrong I do like playing modern first person shooters such as Shadow Warrior or even  Wolfenstein, but in all honesty I prefer playing the much older types, the original early 90's gun in hand blasters such as the original Doom or even Wolfenstein 3D. So it stands to reason why I just had to mention the first person retro inspired game ' Ion Fury '; A game that is not only going to be available today for PC and Linux and out of Early Access...But it's using the famous Build engine from 3D Realms! An engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and other 90's hits. Of old-school throwback games!

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure with upwards of 70 voiced characters gets a release

My love of adventure games is strong, from The Secret of Monkey Island, to The Legend of Kyrandia or even the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there's not an adventure game I would not put aside ( Unless it has too many riddles and puzzles ). So you can see why I was just that little bit excited that not only does Stuck In Attic's upcoming game of ' Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure '' look like a classic Adventure we grew up with, but since the 7th of August it's available to buy on Steam and GOG!

Wing Commander - An incredible space sim gets a BIG Cola Powered Gamer review

When talking about space sims, sooner or later someone will mention Wing Commander. Developed by Origin Systems, Wing Commander can be considered one of the best and influential space sim ever created.

Wing Commander had a different take on the then established space sim formula, bringing the game and space combat to the levels of Hollywood blockbusters. The game is set in 2654 and follows the Terran Confederation and the ongoing war against a predatory feline race called the Kilrathi (they were inspired by Kzinti of Larry Niven’s “Know Space” series). In Chris Roberts words the game is inspired by WW2, especially the Pacific War. When you start a game you have just finished a training sim session, and you must enter your name and callsign. The player character has no name, but internally in Origin, he was nicknamed “BlueHair”, because his hair although black, had highlights of blue (due to a limited color palette), which was what probably the reason they named him Blair in the later games.

Blazing Chrome - Seriously cool Contra styled game gets a release!

With Odallus: The Dark Call and Oniken under their belt, the developer JoyMasher are certainly no strangers to developing a varied selection of decent retro inspired games. But now it looks as if they are about to top all of them in quality, as they have once again mentioned their seriously cool looking Contra styled game of ' Blazing Chrome ', but this time the game has finally been released on Steam, GOG PS4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch much to the excitement of the Indie and Retro community!
