Hibernaculum - This sci-fi horror dungeon crawler looks bloody awesome!

I've always been a fan of the dungeon crawler, there's something to be said about moving through a dark underground passage, looking for loot, avoiding traps and fighting the many beasts that lurk within. In actual fact I'm more inclined to play an old retro first person grid based crawler than any top down modern one that's released today. And on that note, here's a dungeon crawler you should be keeping an eye on, and it's Wormwood Studios in development sci-fi horror dungeon crawler of Hibernaculum.

Death Saw Challenge - Blood thirsty C64 game from The New Dimension.

As Halloween is today and those dark nights are drawing in, you'd expect lots of gory horror games to come out to really make the day that little bit more special. Well one such team has released their gory based game for Halloween, and that's 'Death Saw Challenge'; A horror blood-thirsty but fun single screen score attack game from The New Dimension as a free release for the Commodore 64.

House - A gory survival horror game available for PC - Windows


If you're looking for a new Adventure horror game to enjoy, then you might be interested in playing this rather gorish game released by barkbarkgames, it's "House";  a survival-horror game that was originally developed for a game jam as an earlier version that could be played on game sites such as newsgrounds. In this game you play as a young girl exploring an ever-changing HOUSE, whereby making the wrong decisions can have very dire consequences! 

Carrion - A bloody game by Phobia Game Studio gets a Steam Demo


If you love horror movies or love playing games with plenty of gory gibblits, then as from today you can head on over to the Steam page below, and download the latest preview demo of 'Carrion'; which is an upcoming horror game developed by Phobia Game Studio and published by Devolver Digital. This game announced by us sometime ago, is a gory reverse horror game, in which you assume the role of an amorphous alien being and have the ability to rip the insides out of anything human you come across!

Diablo - An all time hellish classic makes an appearance on GOG


This month has been completely mind blowing for news updates, especially with games announced such as The Age of Heroes, Celtic Heart, Rygar AGA, The Shadows of Sergoth, and even Bruce Lee The Return of Fury. So how do we top that you might ask? Well if you've been following the news from GOG today, they have announced the all time classic hack n slasher RPG ' Diablo ', is now available on GOG in collaboration with Blizzard!

Agony - Survival horror set in Hell gets a release with mixed reviews


Put the kids to bed and get ready for untold horror, as Madmind Studio have recently released their gory filled first person survival horror game ' Agony ', which is now available to buy through Steam and also available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Featuring bloody visuals in the horrific depths of hell, you begin your journey as a tormented soul without any memories of your past, and must explore, and interact with other damned people and possess simple minded demons to find a way to escape, or forever suffer the ultimate torment.

Carrion - A bloody game revealed by BUTCHER devs!


Put away your fluffy toys and tell your children it's time for bed, as BUTCHER devs Transhuman Design have announced a very gory game called ' Carrion '. Apocryph - Brutal FPS which looks a bit like Painkiller goes early access!


Something for everyone this week as now we look towards a bloody and brutal first person shooter called ' Apocryph ', developed by Bigzur using Unity. If you remember games such as Hexen, Heretic or Painkiller, then you'll know what to expect with this game, as not only is it set in a dark fantasy world of violence, magic, dark rituals and dangers, but you'll be facing horrific monsters, nasty traps, secret passages and the will to survive with a mighty weapon at your disposal!

gdxBlood - Gory FPS classic is getting an unofficial Java port!


One of our readers ' Jeff Cotten ' has recently informed us that Monolith Productions and GT Interactive Software's gory first person shooter which we know as Blood, is getting an unofficial Windows port via Java by AxeleratorM210. Originally released as shareware in 1997 and the full version in 1997 for MS-DOS, this game was one of the bloodiest and horrific first person shooters of the era, as it featured zombies, undead butchers, cultists, hell hounds, giant spiders and further deadly enemies that would cover the floor in blood!

Moribund - Multiplayer mayhem and it's due March 16th on Steam!


Our good friend Konstantinos as recently contacted us regarding a kick ass multiplayer game that is soon to be out of early access and officially released on Steam 16th March for PC, MAC and Linux. Titled as Moribund and developed by Traptics, a small team from Greeze. This game puts you and your friends in control of up to 4 deadly armed characters set in a post-apocalyptic world, where a highly aggressive fungus strain has devoured most of the life.

Moonstone Preview V2 - C64 preview of an Amiga hack and slasher classic


If you've got an Amiga and a C64 or just remember playing both of them through the years, then this piece of news is sure to blow your mind! As the 1991 Amiga Mindscape classic ' Moonstone : A Hard Days Knight ' has been teased on the C64 as a preview. Titled as ' Moonstone Preview V2 +D ' and made available by Onslaught, this is a very early dev port of the most incredible and gorish Amiga hack and slasher/beat em up game of its time.

Brutal Doom 64 - New bloody trailer for next week's release!


Some time back now SGtMarkIV released the jaw dropping Brutal Doom, which was pretty much the bloodiest Doom mod we've played, with more gibs and guts than you could ever need in the classic Doom. But now SGtMarkIV has not only released a brand new trailer for Brutal Doom 64, the next PC overhaul in his line up from the Nintendo 64, but he has also announced the release date of next week October, 30th!

BUTCHER - A bloody gory 2D shooter game is out now on GOG/Steam


We've mentioned this game some time ago in its prototype state, but today Transhuman Design (creators of Soldat and King Arthur's gold ) have announced the bloody gory GOG/Steam release of ' Butcher ' for PC, Mac and Linux. A mix and mash of Doom blended in with a bit of the classic Abuse, has as we said before: ultra-violent carnage in the spirit of Doom and Quake, skill based gameplay, wall painting blood with up to 4 million pixels per painted level, environmental use such as saws, hooks and lava pits to dispose of your enemies, an array of weaponry to blast your enemies into pieces and some of the most painful death imaginable.

Cayne and Beautiful Desolation - Two upcoming games from horror 'Stasis' devs


Here at Indie Retro News our jaws have just dropped as from the creators of 'Stasis', we've just been told of two games that are in the pipeline that is sure be added to your most wanted list. The first one is ' Cayne ' an entire standalone game in the Stasis universe, based around the developers experience and emotion of the birth of a child and how much it can affect a family. But seeing as it is related to Stasis, expect a lot of gore and a lot of horror in Hadley's Story which can be seen in this latest bloody Cayne Trailer.

BUTCHER - A bloody gory 2D shooter game available as a prototype


Welcome to the bloodiest and most fast paced 2D shooter we've posted this week, a game that is a blood-soaked love letter to the early 90's by Transhuman Design (creators of Soldat and King Arthur's Gold). It is also a mix and mash of Doom blended in with a bit of the classic Abuse, this is 'BUTCHER', a freely available prototype for PC and Linux that is also available to play in your browser. Prepare for carnage, it's going to get really messy.

1917 The Alien Invasion - This frantic bullet hell shooter looks cool


On the topic of scrolling shoot em ups such as 1942 and the recently released 194-8 on the Pico-8, it might be worth your time taking a look at this rather cool looking shoot em up for the PC; ' 1917 The Alien Invasion ' developed by Andrade-Games. Available for just 4.99, 1917 is a memorisation shooter combined with the fast and frantic action of bullet hell shoot em ups, while also having a unique graphical design, an interesting UI and yes, even bloodshed!

Slain! - A very gory pixelated platformer available today on GOG


Prepare yourselves for blood dripping from the walls and gory bits everywhere, as Wolf Brew Games have announced that their very bloody pixelated action hack and slash platformer of ' Slain!', is now available to buy on GOG! A big Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight success and one of our most eagerly awaited releases, has stunning jaw dropping visuals and lots of bloody effects that would make even the horror fans amongst us look upon in delight.

POSTAL Redux - HD overhaul of the original bloody shooter coming soon!


In 1997 Running With Scissors released the bloodiest isometric shooter of ' Postal ' for the PC. It was a game of maximum gore and carnage as you blasted and burned your way through citizens and armed NPCs affected by a madness plague. The game didn't gather the highest of scores and was very difficult, but thanks to a heads up by DSOGaming, this game is coming back as a HD Remaster with a higher level of detail and an all new Rampage Mode, which encourages an aggressive style of play by increasing a multiplier for each consecutive kill in a streak.

Brutal Doom reaches version V20b and it's bloody glorious!


What an amazing start to 2016 as SGtMarkIV has finally released the latest Brutal Doom version of v20b. Pretty much the bloodiest Doom mod we've come across, with more gibs and guts than you could ever need in a first person shooter, has now got much much better. It was already louder, bigger, faster and harder than the original Doom but now features destroyable bodies and disgusting physics, as well as huge performance improvements.

Slain! - Gorish platformer gets a new gameplay trailer and more!


We were one of the first sites to mention this gorish platformer of Slain! developed by A Wolf Brew Games, which is coming to your PC, MAC and Linux for Steam 2015. But now those same developers behind this incredibly pixelated mash of blood and body parts, not seen since the days of Moonstone have now not only released a game play trailer featuring Metal music from Celtic Frost, but also some new animated gifs to get your bloody giblit juices flowing!
