Sad news as legendary retro gaming music artist 'Ben Daglish' has passed away :(

Indie Retro News is usually very upbeat and always ready to talk about the latest games or music, but it's with great sadness to tell you all that the legendary retro gaming music artist Ben Daglish has passed away to Cancer at the young age of 52. If you've ever had an Amiga, Amstrad, C64 or ZX Spectrum you would've come across his incredible music with games such as Cobra, Mask, Auf Wiedersehen Monty or even The Last Ninja. So you can understand why we are rather upset especially after listening to his music growing up, and more so that we will be taking one day off from writing to pay our respects to this great man.

Indie Retro News celebrates over 6 years of gaming news!

It's incredible to think that this year will be another year under our belt and our anniversary of over 6 years since our gaming creation in the late part of 2011! Over many years of posting the latest gaming news on certain forums, (originally just quotes) I had a dream to create my own gaming website, one that would suit both fans of the Indie scene and the Retro scene and would reach out to as many people as possible, which includes those of you in the Amiga, Amstrad, C64, ZX Spectrum, Sega Master System, NES and even the BBC Micro scene. Thus in late 2011 Indie Retro News was born and over time has seen a huge surge in views with the end result of being a part of the top 5 retro gaming blog, the top 10 retro gaming blog, and the top popular blogs to Follow!

Romhacking Spotlight - Lode Runner Mini, Super Mario Ultimate and SoR2

Welcome to another post of the Romhacking Spotlight! If you missed the first post this segment is all about recommending some of the many great romhacks that you might have missed. For me romhacking is a way to play those old games in a new way, or to get a sequel to a game that never were. For example we all loved Super Mario Bros 3 but Nintendo had to move on to the next generation consoles and sadly never made any more Mario Bros games for the Nes. But thanks to romhacking we can see many new versions of a game and a good example of this is the hack "Super Mario Ultimate" that you can read more about in this post :)

Indie Retro News will be leaving retro behind and going triple AAA gaming!

It's a sad reflection of society but it looks as if people are turning their backs on indie and retro games and moving towards a more modern outlook in life. As such Indie Retro News will no longer be featuring indie, retro games and or retro systems. To be honest I kind of agree as the Amiga just isn't very good, nor is the Amstrad, C64, ZX Spectrum or NES, they pretty much suck in comparison. I mean seriously why would anyone want to play on an Amiga nowadays when you can play on a powerful PC with the latest commercial games. I'd rather play Battlefield or Call of Duty, when the graphics and story are way better than anything! So as of now we will no longer be featuring indie or retro games, they just are not very good nor are they worth writing about.

Romhacking Spotlight - Mario Land, Turtles and Balloon Fight!

Welcome to the first installation of Indie Retro News Romhacking Spotlight! There are a lot of hacked rom files out there and new hacks gets released every week and it's very easy to miss some really amazing hacks. So I decided to create this segment to spotlight some of those hidden gems that might have passed under the radar.

Indie Retro News is taking a break, back soon!

After 4 years of writing through the highs and lows of retro gaming it's time to announce Indie Retro News is taking a short break! No don't worry we won't be gone for ever, but as of this evening all writing will stop until either late Thursday or back on Friday. The reason for this is, I seriously need a time out as apart from one day stop when it turned out to be a disaster, I've never been anywhere away from my own area! Probably the addiction of finding the latest game news and keeping the site going doesn't help ;) But anyway, massive thanks to all of you who keep coming back, and don't worry, you'll see us again on Friday!

A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year from Indie Retro News [UPDATE]

Here we are again with another Christmas and what a year it has been, full of incredible indie games, new homebrews, and lots of lost and found retro specials that have amazed even our own writers thanks to Genesis Project, Hokuto Force or Laxity. From C64 games such as Charlie Chaplin, Red Baron 3000, Donkey Kong + (X2016 Version), Locators Synd, Hessian, Alien 8 and Pentagram, to the incredible Amiga specials such as the SEGA CD exclusive Heart of the Alien ported over to the Amiga, Another World lost levels, OnEscapee and Giana Sisters: Special Edition by PixelGlass Studios. But that's not all we've had to enjoy, as we've had month after month of Amiga CD32 conversions thanks to Earok(+team) and more so this year Amiga Jay with Psygnosis : The Complete Amiga Works, The Bitmap Brothers Collection and even the Overhead Racer Collection! [25/12/16 Christmas Update]

It's Friday and it's retro gaming remix time!

Good morning you awesome people, have I got a musical retro gaming treat for you! As I was fixing my computer yesterday with a rather poor excuse for a pad by my side, I decided to go through some of the coolest gaming remixes available on Youtube and pick a number of them to be posted up on Indie Retro News. Many of these tracks will sound fantastic on not just an expensive hi-fi system but can be blasted to your hearts content via an mp3 player in the car. So get ready gamers the music is about to start!

Thankyou everyone - Computer Update

I would like to say from the bottom of my heart, I am massively grateful to all of you that came forward to help sort this computer situation out and to get Indie Retro News back up and running. Without you I would've been completely stuck and this site would've really suffered, probably only once or twice a week updates from a family computer. Some were even willing to donate their own computers for just as long as mine was out of action, which I said no to (politely) but thankful yes. On the topic of the computer, it is back up and running but there are issues. It will need a new CPU cooler and a new motherboard. The graphics card looks to have survived as did the soundcard, even though it doesn't look to good on the back. So the next stage is repairs but articles will start to return to normal into next week. - Again thank you so much, you guys are awesome beyond words.

Bad news at the Indie Retro News HQ - RAIJINTEK TRITON

You may or may not have noticed the lack of articles yesterday but something terrible has happened. My sealed AIO cooling unit known as the RAIJINTEK TRITON has leaked its innards all over the Msi Gaming 5 motherboard, Asus Zonar soundcard and 980GTX graphics card. Upon closer inspection yesterday after hearing bubbling sounds, a large crack had appeared in the side of the block, forcing liquid out when the pump was working. I completely agree that electronics and water don't mix, but this was supposed to be a sealed all in one unit and was tested for many hours... It took a year to get to this point
