Huntdown - A kick ass shooter by Easy Trigger Games appears on GOG and Steam

If you're looking for a new indie game that's got plenty of action, kick ass moves and retro-aesthetics throughout, then have we got just the game for you! Welcome to 'Huntdown'; a retro style shoot em up that not only takes place in a post-apocalyptic Cyberpunk setting, but it also draws its inspiration from old arcade shooters like Contra and Metal Slug, while adding tactical elements like taking cover behind walls and alleys and jumping up and down from platforms just like in the Rolling Thunder games. 

Galactic Wars EX - A seriously cool Shoot em up as an extended Arcade version of the Pico8 game! (WIN/MAC/LINUX)

We have such a fondness for the Pico-8 here at IRN, a virtual platform with such limited capabilities, the community produces many outstanding games and demos, even ones made in a month. One such game called Galactic Wars, an entry in the 2017 1GAM, blew us away with high grade gameplay, self proclaimed as inspired by classics like Gradius, Galaga or R-Type. Well we've come a long way since that game appeared, as fast forward to this week however, and the creators Volcano Bytes have announced the extended arcade version of Galactic Wars is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

It feels like it was only just yesterday we were banging on the drums about Voidpoint's excellent first person shooter of 'Ion Fury'; a game created using the Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, and Shadow Warrior. It featured kick ass weaponry, hand crafted textures and sprites and much much more, in all of its hand-crafted pixelated glory. Satryn - A wickedly awesome blaster released for Windows and Linux


If you're looking for a game to pass the time where it's all about the intense blasting action, then you've come to the right place. As once again looking through the itch website, we've come across a rather cool looking game called ' Satryn Gameplay ' developed by Maybell. This game available for the PC aka both Linux and Windows, is an infinite twin stick shooter that's completely free to play.. Although donations are welcomed!

Barahir's Adventure Askar's Castle - An early 90's Atari 8-bit adventure remade for Windows and Linux

If you don't have a Sega Master System at hand but still want to play the latest in retro adventuring, then how about this new game released by BrocantyGames it's 'Barahir's Adventure Askar's Castle'; a game that was originally released way back in 1993 for the Atari 8-bit that has now been remade in English with multiple graphical styles for both Windows and Linux!

Vaporum Lockdown - Prequel to an award winning steampunk dungeon crawler releases September 15th


While many of us are still waiting to play the upcoming C64 version of the Eye of the Beholder, there's one PC dungeon crawler you might be interested in playing, and that's the upcoming steampunk crawler of Vaporum:Lockdown. This game which we have mentioned before, is a prequel to the award-winning game of Vaporum by Fatbot Games; a new grid based crawler that is set for release as of September 15th!

The 13th Doll - Unofficial 7th Guest Sequel has been released!


Way back in the 90's Trilobyte with publishing by Virgin Interactive Entertainment released the interactive movie puzzle adventure game ' The 7th Guest ' on multiple systems including CDI, PC and MAC. It was a first person horror game with adult content, that featured live action video clips and pre-rendered 3D graphics that made it a huge success for its time. But why am I mentioning this you may ask? Well you'll be pleased to know we've been told by The Attic Door Productions Team that The 13th Doll - Unofficial 7th Guest Sequel has been released!

This game announced by us sometime ago, is a gory reverse horror game, in which you assume the role of an amorphous alien being and have the ability to rip the insides out of anything human you come across!

Knightin'+ - A Zelda-lite adventure available on Steam by Muzt Die Studios


If like me, you're a huge fan of Zelda ( we've featured enough Fan games ), then you'll be happy to know that thanks to a heads up by the creator, he has told us that Muzt Die Studios has released the Zelda lite adventure game of ' Knightin'+ ' on Steam. As noted by the Steam description : Knightin'+ is a classic adventure game made by one person and is inspired by the amazing masterpieces from the 90s.

Ion Fury - An action packed first person shooter using the famous Build engine!


Don't get me wrong I do like playing modern first person shooters such as Shadow Warrior or even  Wolfenstein, but in all honesty I prefer playing the much older types, the original early 90's gun in hand blasters such as the original Doom or even Wolfenstein 3D. So it stands to reason why I just had to mention the first person retro inspired game ' Ion Fury '; A game that is not only going to be available today for PC and Linux and out of Early Access...But it's using the famous Build engine from 3D Realms! An engine that powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and other 90's hits. Of old-school throwback games!

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure with upwards of 70 voiced characters gets a release


My love of adventure games is strong, from The Secret of Monkey Island, to The Legend of Kyrandia or even the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there's not an adventure game I would not put aside ( Unless it has too many riddles and puzzles ). So you can see why I was just that little bit excited that not only does Stuck In Attic's upcoming game of ' Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure '' look like a classic Adventure we grew up with, but since the 7th of August it's available to buy on Steam and GOG!

Sensible World of Soccer 2020 is coming and we can't wait!


I'll be straight with you right now, I can't stand football, I never liked it as a kid and I don't like watching it as an adult, even if it is the in thing for most sports watchers. However there were some retro games that I did enjoy playing during my much younger years, and those were Sensible Soccer and Kick Off 2! They were no Fifa's, but playing them on the Amiga was so much fun and just perfect for ball kicking against a friend, without the thuggish behavior of a day out at the local stadium. So why we mentioning these games you might ask? Well we've just been told through our twitter feed that the classic game of Sensible Soccer, is making a come back as Sensible World of Soccer 2020; a new game which is coming to a PC near you later this year!

Cathedral - Classy NES-inspired 8-bit adventure is coming soon to GOG


In 2016 Indie Retro News was one of the first sites to give you an updated look at Decemberborn's in development NES inspired 8bit adventure ' Cathedral ', which looks to have the charm of those retro classics while having cool platforming dungeons, unique aesthetics, new items, baddies to fight and puzzles in a world filled with secrets and side-quests. Well that same game has once again appeared in our inbox, but this time with a new trailer and the amouncement the game is coming soon to GOG!

Switch 'N' Shoot - Master that one button in this addictive arcade shoot em up


If you're looking for another enjoyable arcade styled shoot em up, then you might be interested to know that Matt Glanville has released the very latest version of 'Switch N Shoot'; a fast paced retro styled game whereby you must destroy many waves of enemies with the use of only one button. As the developer says " you switch, you shoot. Every shot fired changes your direction, and mastering this is the key to becoming a legend among the stars. Timing is everything!"

Hyperspace Delivery Service - Multi genre space game arrives on Steam!


Here on Indie Retro News we do like games that break the tediousness of similarities and try something different, so we think Hyperspace Delivery Service by Zotnip does just that. In this game you are hired by the Hyperspace Delivery Service to make a delivery to planet Miridian V, but along the way there will be dangers such as mad robots, space pirates and even the odd unpredictable stellar phenomenon.

Guard Duty - A charming 2D fantasy adventure gets a Steam release!


Glorious news if you're an Adventure fan, loving games such as The Secret of Monkey Island or even Simon the Sorcerer, as we've just been told Sick Chicken Studios have released their 2D fantasy adventure game of ' Guard Duty ', which is available for PC, MAC and Linux. Yes if you've been looking forward to this Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight success, then you too can now enjoy an adventure spanning through fantasy and science fiction!

Raider of the Ruby Chest - Raiding ancient ruins in this charming retro inspired platformer


Last month was pretty much non stop retro games on pretty much every system I can think of, from the Amiga, to the C64 and the ZX Spectrum. So now we are going to look towards the latest Indie games to get our more modernish fix. As we've been told Cacareco Games has released their Rick Dangerous inspired platformer of 'Raider of the Ruby Chest'; an enjoyable game for PC, MAC and Linux, with an inclusive demo!

Pathway - Beautifully pixelated strategy RPG set in the 1930s!


Another great looking game and no not a retro game that can be launched on an Amiga or C64 is Robotality and Chucklefish's Strategy RPG ' Pathway ', which can be purchased right now via GOG or Steam. This game that stood out on our twitter feed as an Indiana Jones style graphical experience, is a Strategy RPG set in the 1930's great desert wilderness, in which you must outwit your enemies in daring turn-based combat while raiding occult tombs!
