Abu Simbel Profanation Extended - Classic ZX Spectrum platformer ported to the C64 and extended in 2017/18 (Re-released via itch io?)

Prepare to scream profanity at your keyboard because one of the "most difficult games of Spanish Software History" has been re-released as a converted and extended version to the C64. This game titled as 'Abu Simbel Profanation' was the third in the Johnny Jones Saga and was originally released in 1985 for the Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and MSX. The game was developed by Victor Ruiz and released by Dinamic Software in Spain (and Gremlin Graphics throughout the rest of Europe).

Cracktro Tuesday #1 - Exploring the very latest releases from the C64 Scene

Welcome to a new series of articles where I pluck a selection of C64 programs from Commodore Scene Database (CSDB), play them live on my Twitch stream on real C64 hardware, and write up the highlights here on Indie Retro News. Whether it's artwork, demos, music, classic games revisited in the form of trained cracks or the very latest games - we've got it covered!

Starfysh Remix - Wicked blaster released for the C64 by TND with a musical update!

Super Galax-I-Birds isn't the only game worth talking about this week, as The New Dimension has released a rather lovely C64 Shoot 'em up called ' Starfysh Remix', which was programmed and music by Richard Bayliss and graphics by Shaun Pearson. Now if you love the classic game Delta, then this game is the game for you as not only does it look like a clone of that game, but it has varied enemies, different enemy wave patterns, multiple levels and the need to blast everything in your path for a decent score!

RetroGameDev Platform Game Preview - Another Tutorial game from RetroGameDev

Another tutorial game to grace our screens by Retro Game Dev and trainered by Laxity is a rather cute little tutorial platformer called RetroGameDev Platform Game Preview. Now just like the first game we mentioned, this one is of course a platformer as a show case for game development in Derek Morris's book Retro Game Dev, which helps you learn how to create games for the C64.

International Karate Ultimate Released - Feature C64 Roundup!

Following on from last week's preview, you can now play the full release of International Karate Ultimate.  A 30th anniversary homage to theArcher MacLean classic created by JonEgg, Excess and Formby cracking group inspired by a meet up at Syntax '17 demo party in Melbourne.   Here's a look at the features the final release includes.

Kobo64 - A Kobo Deluxe like game for the Commodore 64 which rules!

It's the C64 time to shine now as coming out from space with bullets flying everywhere, is the Kobo Deluxe like game ' Kobo64 ', which was coded by Soci, music by 6R6 and graphics by Poison and Soci. If you like multi-directional bullet hell shooters, with tons of levels and a great music to match, you're going to love this game. As not only will it keep you occupied for hours on end, but it's also considered a port of Kobo Deluxe; an enhanced version of Akira Higuchi's game XKobo for Un*x systems with X11.

Giana-Sisters 30th Anniversary Preview - A glorious C64 celebration of Giana Sisters

We've certainly heard a lot about that famous platformer the Great Giana Sisters from 1987, especially as it came back to the Amiga as a Giana Special Edition by Reimagine Games and then of course the Great Giana-Sisters Construction-Set, whereby you can create your own levels. But this latest release as Giana-Sisters 30th Anniversary Preview on the C64 by The-Seven-A-Three, is something of a special breed and one you might be interested in checking out!

VVVVVV + - Incredible news as modern Indie game gets a C64 conversion!

We are about to blow you away with possibly the BEST C64 release news of the week, as Laxity have released the full C64 conversion of the modern Indie game ' VVVVV ', which was originally released back in 2010 and created by Terry Cavanagh for multiple platforms including the PC. This puzzle platform game is a conversion of one of the hardest games you'll ever play but it's one of the best that has gathered countless high scores!

GPAC Dementia Defender +3CD - A Pac-Man nutritional clone on the C64, reviewed!

Throughout the years there have been many Pac-Man games mentioned on Indie Retro News, from the Pac-Man Xtreme romhack, to Jr. Pac-Man on the Intellivision and even a Pac-Man game on the Pico-8. Each of these vary in style from the 1980's hit classic, but GPAC Dementia Defender +3CD released recently on the C64 by Laxity with development by GRay Defender, features a far more nutritional scope to the original game.

Outpost - Rare Missile Command clone sees brand new Trainer release for the C64

The iconic Atari game Missile Command didn't get the best of ports on the C64, (I don't think it ever got an official Atari port), so fans of the frenetic arcade blaster should definitely check out Outpost, written by Thomas Czarnecki and released in 1989. Laxity have added documentation and Trainer goodness for this version (infinite lives and/or ammo).

Fire Breath - Lost in the Attic for 26 years finally released for the C64

Software developer Erik J. Hooijmeijer has released an old title he tried to release in 1990 on his alternative software development website: Ctrl-alt-dev. Sitting in his attic for 26 years, this fully playable platform game - inspired by my two favourite games: Bubble Bobble and Creatures - can be downloaded for free from his website, and not one, not two, but three trained versions from The Genesis Project, Laxity and Onslaught are also available on CSDB.

Wizerior II Preview - A visual tease to a C64 Gauntlet clone

I believe we all enjoyed playing that classic arcade 1980's game Gauntlet both in the Arcades and on original home computers and consoles. But did you know away from the maze like ghost and demonic arcade filled original there was a clone called Wizerior? Yes indeed, in 1989 Markt & Technik released their Gauntlet clone, which although wasn't as good as Gauntlet still had its charm. It's also a shame the sequel ' Wizerior II ' due for release in 1991 was cancelled because from everything we've seen so far it looked a far better game, of which you can see in this visual preview released by Laxity.

Workman +5H - Hard labour on the C64

Data-Tronic's Workman by Helge Ã…kesson has been given a cheat trainer and high score saver by Laxity. Graphically this looks like one of those early charming platform games, like Jet Set Willy... But you'll soon notice after dying multiple times from the first enemy on level 1, that this game is rock hard, and it drops you right in at the deep end. The idea of the game is to collect the various items on each level whilst avoiding the fast moving enemies, negotiating the level's platforms and avoiding the deadly traps.

R.I.O.T. Preview + - A C64 early access by Laxity

Commodore 64 game releases are coming in thick and fast at the moment... And here's another. This is R.I.O.T. A new game currently in development, and cracked by Laxity.  You get to try 4 levels of a game before it's finished. You can also try the preview with infinite energy thanks to the trainer.

Vortex Crystals [16kb cartridge] - TND's new C64 game for the RGCD C64 16KB Cart Comp 2015/16

I was hoping to get all my updates done by this morning, but when it comes to much younger sisters nagging to go shopping, that was put aside. So without further ado, it's time to mention The New Dimension's new game ' Vortex Crystals ', which was released for the RGCD C64 16KB Cartridge Game Development Competition 2015/16. Programming and music by Richard Bayliss and graphics and design by Alf Yncve, this game is an action shooter in which you need to grab all the diamonds and get to the exit.

Drugs +5HFTD - Frustrating C64 shoot em up, PAL/NTSC fixed by Laxity

Another day another C64 release, and this comes directly from Laxity's cool stash of games with the latest PAL/NTSC fix of ' Drugs +5HFTD '. A rather unheard of shoot em up from way back in 1989, you must blast waves of enemies through 13 levels that come at you from both sides while also avoiding smashing your spaceship into the space based landscape. And why are you doing this you may ask? To defend the Earth from the Aliens who are flooding the Earth with powerful drugs to enslave the Human race of course!

Underland Preview - Aborted Dungeon Crawling romp released by Laxity!

A great surprise has appeared out of Laxity for all you dungeoneers as they have released a preview version of the aborted C64 game, ' Underland Preview '. This is a dungeon crawler RPG in which you can select your very own of class of character such as Ranger, Paladin or Necromancer and begin your destiny at different areas before traversing the eery tunnels and fighting evil beasts!

Block'n'Tropic - Another found C64 game released by Laxity

Laxity are on form, as yet again they've released another game that wasn't even on GB64! It's ' Block'n'Tropic ' by Construction Computer Players developed by Marcus Wagner, with graphics, music and levels by Andreas Bavernfeind (1986/7). The successor to Block'n'Bubble and available for the C64 with new graphics, you must move blocks about and kill enemies with laser beams coming out of your eyes to win the level! Be warned though this game is unforgivable, one wrong move of a boulder/block and you'll be stuck with no option but to start again.

Rust'n'Steel - Jumping platformer for the C64 released by Laxity

Laxity are on fire today as they've also released another game developed by Marcus Wagner and presented by the Construction Computer Players, and that is ' Rust'n'Steel for the C64. In this game which is in no way as good as the previous one mentioned, you play as what looks to be an engineer of some kind and must walk along steel platforms turning them into rust, avoiding both enemies and huge drops!

The Catacombs of Cherubim - Creepy rare C64 title appears from Laxity

You probably wont see many articles up on the site today due to ill health, however I did have the chance to play the C64 game of ' The Catacombs of Cherubim ' developed by Marcus Wagner and presented by the Construction Computer Players . This game which has been unearthed and released by Laxity, is classed as a platformer with rather dark undertones as you play as a treasure hunter searching the deep catacombs looking for diamonds and treasure!
