Jimbo is certainly no stranger to IndieRetroNews, as he is one of the only developers who has created new games for the Commodore PET. Games such as PETSCII Bros, PET Panic!, PET Space Invaders 2, TREKWAR are just some of those games that have been mentioned by us. Well here we are with another game from Jimbo, as he has released a new game called 'PETSCII Side-Scrolling Platformer'. A new game which he describes as a Commodore PET game inspired by Mario and Sonic. In light of this news, a gameplay video has been provided which can be viewed below.

Romhacking Spotlight - The DX Edition posted by Thermoptic
This segment of the Romhacking Spotlight is all about DX! You might remember that Nintendo has re-relased a number of titles for the Gameboy with the added letters DX at the end. These were games that first were released for the original Gameboy - in its fabolous limited monochrome colors - later enhanced and upgraded in full color for the Gameboy Color. Some great examples of these were Tetris DX, R-Type DX and of course The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX. The most notable changes of the DX games where the addition of a color pallet but there were also other tweaks and features added making it a Deluxe version, or "DX".
A work in progress Mario clone for the Commodore Amiga
This year so far could almost be classed as the year of the Mario, as it seems there has been no let up in that famous plumber either appearing on different systems as ports, fan games on the PC, or even a complete conversion to the C64 with Super Mario Bros by ZeroPaige. Well it seems we are not done with that classic game just yet, as thanks to a heads up by Saberman, he's told us of a work in progress Mario clone for the amiga 500 and above which looks to be created by Magnus T.
Romhacking Spotlight - The Rainbow Realms. Interview with Bluecrush
This year Super Mario Bros 3 celebrates its 30th Anniversary, yes believe it or not but it was exactly 30 years ago Nintendo released this amazing game and i remember it like it was yesterday. I was walking home from school listening to the track Summertime with DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince on my Sony Walkman and just when i was about to have a relaxing time watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves on our VHS when my parents walked in holding this shiny yellow box, it was Super Mario Bros 3 and i couldn't believe it! Well the rest is history, the game was a huge hit and is still considered today to be one of the best Mario games in video game history.

Welcome back for another segment of the Romhackig Spotlight! This time we are going to take a look at some really nice Super Mario Bros hacks for the Nes. Super Mario Bros demo'd on the Amiga using Redpill
Possibly the last post for today and one I think may interest you, is the very early development of Super Mario Brothers for the Commodore Amiga. Announced through our email thanks to a heads up by Zbigniew 'Saberman' Zieliński, this work in progress demo was one of the more recent projects teased using the THE AMIGA GAME CREATOR 'RedPill', which as of this April had moved into an Alpha state.
Super Mario Ultimate - A full hack of Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES!
It seems as if people can't get enough of Mario, as throughout the previous year we had seen countless rom hacks released that either change the game into a different story, or completely overhaul the game with new graphics. Once such Mario game, as in Super Mario Bros 3, has got a new rom hack today and it's called 'Super Mario Ultimate' released by Silas; a very large hack of Super Mario Bros 3 from the NES!
Wrecking Crew ‘98 - A rare Mario Puzzler on the SNES, English translated!
Mario is in the news again and no this isn't a replay on the SNES Mini OR a quick bash on the Switch, but he's coming at you via a rare game called ' Wrecking Crew '98 ', which has since been English translated by ShadowOne333 and team! Yes indeed this Mario game, a game I haven't heard of before due to Nintendo’s International Division shutting down sales of all SNES games in ‘97, is classed as a Puzzle game that never came out from Japan and as such was only ever playable in Japanese, either through import or a rom.
Mario Bros - Gameplay footage of an unreleased Amiga Mario game
In 1983 Nintendo released the classic game ' Mario Bros ' for the Arcades, with a number of ports released by other publishers in 1988 for systems such as the Atari 8bit. In fact there was also an unofficial overhauled Atari 8bit version in 2017 called Mario Bros XE by darryl1970. It's such a shame that we haven't been able to play an Amiga version even though one was created in 1993 by Thomas Agermose Jensen. But at least we have some new gameplay footage to show you provided by Per-Ola Eriksson that proves it existed.
Mario Demo Test - Batman Group shows us impressive scrolling on the Amstrad CPC
While many of us are eagerly waiting Batman Group's Amstrad CPC port of the classic Amiga game ' Pinball Dreams ' by Digital Illusions CE, Batman Group has once again shocked us with just how good the Amstrad CPC could've been, if games were done correctly in the past rather than many of the shoddy ports released all those years ago ( Yes you R-Type! ). As an impressive showing, a member by the name of Rhino has released a demo disk, which has some elements to simulate a Mario style game with pixel precise scroll with a new routine pixel to pixel, 50 fps overscan on the Amstrad CPC!
Super Mario Bros. 3: The Forgotten Worlds - Unofficial direct sequel to Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels
It seems as if Mario has taken over Romhacking, as during the last month or so, we've seen countless rom hacks released that either change the game into a different story, or completely overhaul the game with new graphics. Once such Mario game, as in Super Mario Bros, has got a new rom hack today and it's called 'Super Mario Bros. 3: The Forgotten Worlds' by szemigi, an unofficial direct sequel to Super Mario Bros The Lost Levels.
Super Mario World on the NES gets a SNES improvement hack
We've just had an interesting heads up in our inbox, that Super Mario World on the NES has been hacked by Jabu to make the game even more similar to the SNES version, improving gameplay and graphics. Now if you're thinking to yourselves I don't remember Super Mario World on the NES, that's because the game was never officially released on the NES, and was only ported over to the NES from the SNES as a bootleg developed by Hummer Team and released in 1995. Now thanks to Jabu, he has made the game more in line with the SNES version but keeping as much of the core bootleg gameplay intact.
Pietro Bros - A stunning ZX Spectrum homebrew based on Mario Bros from the NES
Well it is finally Christmas day, oh the joys! This is the time when all the homebrew developers come together to show off their very special treats for both the young and old in all their retro gaming splendour. Welcome to possibly the best looking ZX Spectrum game we've seen so far this winter and one that has been in development for some time, Noentiendo - Pietro Bros by Cristian M. Gonzalez, built on z88dk and using Nirvana+ for the multicolour graphic engine.
Super Mario Bros appears on the Amiga as a project called Other Super Mario
This year could almost be classed as the year of the Mario as it seems there has been no let up in that famous plumber either appearing on different systems as ports, fan games on the PC with Super Mario Bros. X 2.0, or hack jobs such as Communist Mario on the NES. And yet the year hasn't finished, as here we are again with another Super Mario Bros and this time Shigeru Miyamoto's game has been shown off on the Amiga as a project by Retro1234
Super Mario Bros CPC - The Amstrad CPC gets an early port tease of a legendary Nintendo game
Unless you were living in a cave, many of you will remember the classic game that is ' Super Mario Bros ', that was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and released by that famous company Nintendo in the late 80's for the NES. It is an incredible platformer that has had many sequels and spin offs on different systems, ranging from the NES all the way up to the very modern console, the Wii U. Developed again using AGD by Gabriele Amore, this time features Mario and he has to reach each exit on every screen, by jumping over barrels and shooting at enemies.
AllGen Gaming - Video gaming centre in Rochester was a launch success!
After all these months of shouting about the latest gaming centre to be launching in Rochester,UK for all things retro and modern gaming, last weekend it actually happened. Kaettekita Mario Bros - Mario Bro's FDS gets a full English translation
Something different today for our retro gaming readers, especially if you remember the Family Computer Disk System (Famicom), as MrRichard999 has released the full English translation for 'Kaettekita Mario Bros', which originally was an updated version of the original Mario Bros but one of the few Famicom Disk System games available exclusively from the Famicom Disk Writer and not sold separately. Released in Japan in 1988, and based on the Arcade Mario Bros game, this was an odd remake that was sponsored by Nagatanien, a Japanese food company, which also featured a number of different changes...
Communist Mario 3 - A motherland NES hack of Super Mario Bros. 3
Prepare to see Mario as you've never seen him before, this time in an all new NES hack of Super Mario Bros 3, in ' Communist Mario 3 ' released by KP9000. Now when I first saw this game update I thought it was an April Fools joke as everything about it seemed so silly, I just wasn't going to be taken in ,especially as it was actually April 1st. But Communist Mario 3 is actually a real hack, and unlike the original Mario you play as Comrade Mario in a quest to extinguish capitalism that is threatening Mother Russia and the USSR.
