Another great heads up for all the Amiga owners out there, well ones that can run it anyway, is the MS-DOS first person shooter ' Shadow Warrior ', has been ported over to the Amiga by BSzili as the first public test for you to try. Originally developed by 3D Realms and published by GT Interactive back in 1997. Shadow Warrior had an improved engine from the one used in Duke Nukem 3D, and featured 3D voxels instead of 2D sprites, usable inventory items, and violent head slicing katanas, Uzi's and many more to make this a bloody fine game!
Shadow Warrior - Classic MS-DOS FPS making its way on to the Amiga via BSZili
Parachute - Game and Watch title unofficially released for MS-DOS
Another day and another Game and Watch mention, as the previous one was called 'Donkey Kong Jr' which was ported over to multiple commodore systems, and this latest release called 'Parachute' has been developed for MS-DOS. Now unlike the other game port developed by alargames and starring Mario, Parachute was a game released in 1981 and has been ported/remade to the MS-DOS by friedpixels.
Neuromancer DOS - A classic game, a classic Cyberpunk review from Retro Freak Reviews!
If you’re reading this, thank you for taking some time off Cyberpunk 2077, which is probably the hottest game at the time of this review. Despite all the wait (and the controversies), I’m curious to see it lives up to the hype or not. Until then, why not take a look with us at a game based on the very beginnings of the cyberpunk genre? I’m talking about Neuromancer. Neuromancer is an adventure game developed by Interplay and published by Electronic Arts. It was released originally in 1988 for the Commodore 64 and Apple II computers and the following year for the Amiga, Apple IIgs and DOS.

Street Rod - Race classic cars in this new Cola Powered Gamer review
Most racing games focus on modern cars, formula one races, and other exotic vehicles, but very few games are about racing old cars. Released in 1989, Street Rod is based on a concept conceived by Magic Partners and developed by the Polish game developers P.Z. Karen Co. with help from Logical Design Works, and published by California Dreams (a publishing label of LDW). The game has a unique style and gameplay than most racing games at the time.
SlipSpeed - Race your Slip Speed craft in this cool DOS/Windows game
A rather special little game for our ever growing MS-DOS Gaming Facebook group, as trawling through the latest featured games, we've come across a DOS and Windows game called 'SlipSpeed' developed by Voxel and tijn. This game updated around 53 days ago on the itch io website, is a seriously cool game in which you must race your Slip craft through multiple tracks pushing to be the number 1 racer of the future.
MINI PRINCE - One whole level of ASCII Prince of Persia platforming fun coming to MS-DOS [RELEASED]
What a great Friday this is turning out to be, as just moments ago we were told that the all time classic platformer of 'Prince of Persia', is getting a one level make over into a full ASCII experience. Yes indeed thanks to a heads up from the developer Anne Bras, we've been told the upcoming game which is being called Mini Prince, will be a cute fan-made fantasy platformer for MS-DOS systems, as a completely stripped down to its bare minimum and thrown into a shrinking device version of Prince of Persia.
Redneck Rampage - 1997 first person shooter gets a Cola Powered Gamer review
When talking about games on the Build Engine, there are three major ones: Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, and Blood. These are usually considered the best Build engine games, but right behind them is Redneck Rampage. Developed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay Productions, Redneck Rampage was released in 1997, right around the time that 2.5D shooters, were slowly falling out of style. While the gaming industry was innovating with 3D graphics, almost all of the Build Engine games offered more interactivity and in turn, has a unique style.
Review: Duke Nukem – 1 Year Anniversary Special by Cola Powered Gamer
Long before he became a video game icon, Duke Nukem had humble origins. So, let’s take a look at the very first game, of this legendary video game icon.Duke Nukem (or sometimes Duke Nukem 1) was developed by Apogee Software and released in 1991, Duke Nukem was one of the many Apogee platformers at the time. Created by a small team, the game was programmed largely by Todd Replogle, with the graphics and additional work being done by Jim Norwood (Bio Menace), Allen H. Blum III and George Broussard, and was produced by Scott Miller. Duke Nukem’s development was also helped by id Software (mainly John Carmack), who helped with some minor programming issues.
DuckTales - Another classic DOS review by DarkwyndPT
With the return of the most ear-catching cartoon theme song of all times (and the show too) to TV, I decided to take a look at the videogame. No, not the popular NES version but the DOS version instead. I’m talking about DuckTales (WOO HOO!). DuckTales: The Quest for Gold is an action-platform game developed by Incredible Technologies and published by Walt Disney Computer Software. It was originally released in 1990 for Amiga, Atari ST, Apple II, Commodore 64 and DOS.
But first let’s look at the cover, shall we?
Kingpin: Reloaded - A Violent FPS classic remastered & enhanced, coming later this year!
One of the finest games I remember from late 1999 that featured so much graphical violence I was surprised I ever got to play it, was the classic first person shooter Kingpin Life of Crime: a controversal game whereby graphic depiction of violence and heavy use of profanity, gained a lot of media attention even with an 18 certifact slapped on the front of the box! For those of you who never got a chance to play this game, will now get that chance and more. As 3D Realms has just announced the Kingpin : Reloaded edition. A remastered and enhanced version of the crime-themed first-person shooter classic!
Loom - A highly collectable Adventure game gets a Cola Powered Gamer review
The 90s was a decade with a lot of experimentation and uniquely designed games, and also a lot of them were fantasy themed. LucasArts’, developed only one original high fantasy game, Loom. Looking at the games developed at the time, and especially adventure games, there were a lot of fantasy-themed games. Titles like King’s Quest, Quest for Glory, Simon the Sorcerer, and many more, one would think that a giant like LucasArts’ would develop more fantasy-themed games. Loom was their only game set in the high fantasy setting (not counting the Labyrinth, their first video games, which was based on a movie).
Haunted Lands - An awesome action platformer homage to classic DOS games
It's a Monday and it's a new week for fresh games to play! The first one up that comes highly recommended, is Alevgor's action platformer 'Haunted Lands - Episode Alpha'. This game which can be played either online or downloaded, is a high grade PC homage to classic DOS games such as Commander Keen, Dangerous Dave and Bio Menace with deadly demons, ghouls and a powerful shotgun!
Bio Menace - Classic action game from the 90's gets a Cola Powered Gamer review
Apogee during the early 90s was considered the king of platform games. While most of them can be considered family-friendly, Bio Menace is more action-oriented and definitely not PG-13. Developed by Jim Norwood, with help from id Software (mainly John Carmack), and published by Apogee Games, it was released in 1993. The game was developed under the working title “Bio Hazard”, it was supposed to be released in November of 1991, but due to modifying the engine (the same one used in Commander Keen in Goodbye Galaxy), it spent two years more years in development. Excluding the engine and the music (by Bobby Prince), the majority of the game was created by its designer, Jim Norwood.
Wing Commander Privateer - Cola Powered Gamer reviews an adventure space flight simulation classic!
After the success of Wing Commander II, the franchise received its first spin-off game. Wing Commander: Privateer or simply Privateer. It can be looked at as Origin Systems take on open-ended gameplay, and their take on the legendary Elite (1984).
Released in the Fall of 1993, Privateer had an interesting development history. The working title for the game was “Trade Commander”, and at one point Origin Systems considered naming all of their games with the suffix “Commander”. The game uses a vastly improved Wing Commander II engine, with some features that were also used in Strike Commander, a different Origin game. It was designed by Joel Manners, and it was helped by Chris Roberts, who at the time was working on Wing Commander II, Strike Commander and Privateer.
Monster Bash - Apogee Software's creepy platformer classic gets a DarkwyndPT review
Well, it’s that time of the year again. Especially for ghosts, goblins and other creatures of the night. Welcome to our Halloween special review. And this time we have quite the eerie delicacy prepared just for you all. I’m talking about Monster Bash. Body Blows - Kicking ass in this retro review from DarkwyndPT
I would like to start this review with a letter I wrote to Team17 some years ago (not really, but let’s imagine I did): “Dear Team17,
My name is DarkwyndPT (not my real name, obviously) and I’m a big fan of your work, especially the Worms series. Me and my friends have spent countless hours playing these games, killing each other’s virtual worms (that sounded weird). I also enjoy the Alien Breed series, despite not being my cup of tea.
Internet Archive adds over 2,500 Dos games to play in your Browser!
Back in November of 2014 we mentioned some of the best websites to play classic retro systems online. Systems such as the CPC, NES, MSX and loads more were completely playable directly through your browser. One such site called "The Archive" had a massive game list from the 1970's through to the 1990's, all emulated in JSMAME containing hundreds of games ranging through many different genres and styles.
Space Quest III - A classic Sci-fi adventure sequel reviewed by Cola Powered Gamer
Space Quest III is one of the funniest and self-aware video games ever. An improvement on almost everything from the previous two games, Space Quest II and it really shows. Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon, developed by Sierra and its duo Two Guys From Andromeda, and released in 1989, it’s simply known as Space Quest III. The game brings a few improvements and several changes.
