Tiny Magic - A high quality and charming puzzle game for the MSX 2 now taking pre-orders via Côté Gamers

The MSX community are certainly no strangers to quality releases on the MSX especially with great games such as Lilly's Saga and Ghostly Manor. Well today's news is certainly worth a shout out if you have a MSX 2, as we've recently found out through Twitter, that pre-orders are now open for the high quality puzzle game of 'Tiny Magic' by Abyss. A game in which you play as Thiharis on a quest to hopefully become the new master water mage. In light of this news, the team behind the game have provided a trailer that as always can be viewed below.

Eggy’s Maze - A great MSX2 puzzle game entered into the MSXdev23 competition

We've just been contacted through both Facebook and Twitter that if you head on over to the latest MSXDev competition, you can download or play online the MSX 2 game of 'Eggy's Maze'. A game that isn't just very challenging, but it's a puzzle game by Jacco Bikker in which you have to traverse the many levels to find missing eggs scattered throughout! To coincide with this news, as ever Saberman has done a short video showing the game in action.

A Collection of Four Adventure Games - Play the latest MSX/2 games entered into the Yandex Retro Games Battle!

Even more awesome retro game news to get through, as thanks to another heads up earlier today from our good friend Tom, he has told us that Andrey Rodionov has entered into the Yandex Retro Games Battle competition 'A Collection of Four Adventure Games' for the MSX/2. Basically different games such as a space adventure game with some arcade elements or a maze adventure all belonging to the roguelike genre. To coincide with this news story, Oleg Sen!n and Saberman have done a 15min+ video of all the MSX/2 games being played!

Mad House - A new MSX2 Platformer by Gamecast Entertainment via MSXdev23!

Another MSX news story to keep you company, as thanks to Tom contacting us this morning, we've been told that a brand new game for the MSX2 called 'Mad House', has been made available to download and play. This game developed by Gamecast Entertainment for the MSXDev 23 competition, is an arcade platformer in which you play as a nasty thief and must set out to rob a house! In light of this news, the file hunter was also kind enough to make the game completely playable in your browser!

S.A.K - Check out this cool Green Beret Homage for the MSX2

Green Beret(Rush n Attack) was an action arcade game released by Konami in 1985. It is remembered for its Cold War setting and its reliance on the player using a knife or even a flame thrower to dispatch enemies. Well if you liked this game at the Arcades or any of the 8bit versions we've featured previously, then it might be worth checking out this game that's just been sent to us called 'S.A.K'. As in the words of @vidaextraretro "compressed versions for disk of the worthy homage to Green Beret by Konami, Stan the Dreamer and others for the MSX2."

Lilly's Saga - MSXdev22 Winner for Gameplay, Graphics and Sound is getting a big box edition! (Reserves are open)


It feels like it was only just yesterday that we announced the release of the incredible MSX 2 game of 'Lilly's Saga' by Fabulous 8bit. A game that didn't just become a highlight of the MSX 2 community, but also as a winner for Gameplay, Graphics and Sound in the MSXdev'22 competition. Well have we got some great news for you! As although the game is still available to download and enjoy, from what we've just been told through Facebook, the game is also going to be getting a BIG BOX edition....Oh and you can reserve your copy right now!

Stevedore - A charming Arcade Puzzler released for the MSX by TheNestruo and Wonder

We turn our attention away from the ZX Spectrum for this next news update, as if you're looking for a high quality MSX game to keep you company possibly right up to Christmas, then it might be worth checking out TheNestruo and Wonders latest Arcade Puzzle title for the MSX called 'Stevedore': a high quality game in which you need to avoid enemies, while moving blocks to reach difficult areas to collect keys that open the exit for you to escape.

Ghostly Manor - A charming little Arcade game released for the MSX2+ by 9958 Crew

Another heads up for our Indie Retro News readers, as we've recently been told by Liqmatrix that if you head on over to the itch io page linked below, you can download the latest game of Ghostly Manor by 9958 Crew for the MSX2+. A game in which you need to collect keys in each of the many levels to open the door to escape. In light of this news, Saberman has also done a video of the gameplay viewable below.

Lilly’s Saga – The Stones of Evergreen - Could this love letter to 80's and 90's classics for the MSX2 be a winner?

Unless you were living in a cave, many of you will remember the classic game that is ' Super Mario Bros ', a game that was produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and released by that famous company Nintendo in the late 80's for the NES. It is an incredible platformer that has had many sequels and spin offs on different systems, ranging from the NES all the way up to my personal favorite the DS. Well if you too are a fan of Mario but are looking for something fresh on the MSX2, you'll be interested to know that as of right now you can play Fabulous 8bit's love letter to Super Mario Bros called "Lilly’s Saga – The Stones of Evergreen"; The 31st entry into the MSXdev22 competition.

Sales Discontinued - A high-spec Adventure MSX2 game entered into the MSXdev 22 competition!

We've just been contacted through both Facebook and Twitter that if you head on over to the MSXDev competition page, you can download or play online the latest game release of Sales Discontinued. A new Adventure MSX2 game by NOP in which the website says is not only a rather unique game for a unique system, but it has extraordinary hardware requirements. The Maze of Galious as an enhanced version for the MSX2 is spectacular!

If you remember the 1987 MSX game of The Maze of Galious, then you might like this news story that has just reached our inbox. As we've recently been informed by a good friend of ours on Twitter, that Victor Martinez, David Madurga, Toni Galvez and team have released the latest update to their previously released enhanced MSX2 version of The Maze of Galious. To coincide with this news, not only can you view the latest compared screenshots below, but the game is playable online through a browser via The File Hunter.

The Fall of Prometheus - A fabulous Mythical action puzzler for the MSX is now playable online

The MSX community are certainly no strangers to quality releases on the MSX especially with great games such as Night Knight and No Back Down. Well today's news is equally special for the MSX community, as we've recently found out through Facebook, that you can now play Mystery Labs awesome action puzzle game of 'The Fall of Prometheus' online; A game which has over 30 screens divided in 3 worlds: Tanatos, Garden of Hesperides, and another secret one set in a mythological theme.

Who Dares Wins - Retro classic gets an MSX2 remake


Way back in 1985 Alligator Software was supposed to officially release 'Who Dares Wins' for the C64, but according to certain sites this game played very closely to Commando and thus was stopped by Elite (even though apparently some did get their hands on it). But the news of today isn't for the C64, as we've recently been told by @nenefranz, that the Who Dares Wins remake for the MSX2 by Retroforce had been released and can still be downloaded for free!

LOS AMORES DE BRUNILDA - One of the most acclaimed 8bit freeware games now released for MSX2


Great news if you have an MSX2, as thanks to a heads up from a member in the MSX group, we've been told LOS AMORES DE BRUNILDA has been released on the MSX2 for free with a commercial cartridge version due soon! Yes indeed this highly acclaimed game released previously on the ZX Spectrum developed by Bitvision Software, has been published by RetroWorks for the MSX2 with amazing graphical detail and sound with multi-language available developed by a Spanish team.

The Sorrow of Gadhlan' Thur - A high quality MSX2 Action RPG from Kai Magazine


With it being Monday it's time to look at upcoming games for a weekly start, and sure enough we have a new game to share with you, as Kai Magazine has announced the completion of a new game called The Sorrow of Gadhlan' Thur; a high quality Action RPG which is coming to the MSX2. To coincide with this news update, not only is there a new gameplay teaser, but the developer has also said the game is finished and there will be a short first batch of 25 cartridges. A second batch will be made in 2 months or more since there are no more 2048k cartridges available at the moment.

Caravan Boomer - Upcoming MSX2 Shooter features huge musical talent!


It's time to get excited retro gamers, as we've just come across as post on the msx.org website of a brand new game that is coming to the MSX2 that is sure to cause a flurry in the MSX scene. This game titled as ' Caravan Boomer ', is an upcoming horizontal shooter completely written in Assembly, that features the musical talent of not just Shinji Hosoe (Dragon Spirit, Ridge Racer) and Naruto (Away, Axe Bow). But also Tanikugu, Hally (vorc.org), Maak, Shnabubula, Masahiko Ishida (R-Type 2, Ninja Spirits), and Norio Nakagata (Abarenbou Tengu, Genpei Touma Den).

Quartet - Fabulous 14th puzzle entry for the MSXdev'18!


The MSXDev compo has gone from strength to strength this time around, as not only did we have games such as Burn US, X-Racing and Barbarian the Duel to enjoy, but now there's a new puzzle game worth playing called ' Quartet ' by Ilkke & bitsofbas! Nemesis 3: The Eve of Destruction is patched up and looks great on the MSX2


It's a Monday and what a great start to the week as the sun is shining, it's warming up, and Toni Galvez@TonimanGalvez has recently tweeted us with a very special news announcement for the MSX2 with the release of the Nemesis 3 enhancement patch. Released originally in 1988-1989 this Shoot em up was developed and published by Konami exclusively for the MSX as the sequel to the epic game of Gradius and a spin off to Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou. This patch however excels the game to new heights with not just smooth scrolling but other note worthy enhancements too!

Mr. Ghost - Late 80's MSX2 game gets a full English translation


What a lovely wake up call as we've recently found out thanks to a heads up via Facebook, that the MSX2 game of MrGhost by System Sacom which was released way back in 1989, has been fully translated into English by 232 & Max Iwamoto and is available to download as version 1.0. According to a post in 2004 via the MSX website this game was voted the most underrated MSX game of all time, with 180 votes counted.
