HOT NEWS! Super Mario Bros is coming to the C64!

Possibly the best news for today and one I really think is going to get those jaws dropping, as thanks to a heads up by Jim Farley in our C64 Facebook group, is the fact that he has told us Super Mario Brothers may be released for the C64 during this week! Funnily enough when a user way back in 2013 asked if there was ever a port of the original to the C64 and a reply of no, just a sprite hack of Giania Sisters. It came to be that a developer by the name ZeroPaige set out to make his very own C64 port as close to the Nintendo hit as possible, and one you will hopefully see any day now!

Here on Indie Retro News we try to keep you up to date with the latest gaming news from around the world from the Amstrad CPC and Amiga, to the C64 and to the ZX Spectrum. But after writing for nearly every day with so much going on, it's time to have a rest! I am physically and mentally exhausted, and have not been feeling right these last two weeks, especially with high anxiety and migraines taking its toll. So my faithful friends and readers of IRN, I'll be taking a step back for a little while to rest and gather my strength and hope to be back Tuesday.

Talk soon everyone, and I hope you have a great weekend full of retro games...

The C64 Mini is going BIG for 2019

With the resurgance of retro gaming hardware enabling us to play old classics on big TV's with lots of built in games such as the NES Mini, SNES Mini, Playstation 1 Classic and the C64 Mini you'd be forgiven in thinking there wasn't much else to announce by the end of this year. Well The C64 crew have something to shout about and in a pretty big way, as they have just announced the full-size pre-production prototype of ‘THEC64’, complete with a fully functional integrated keyboard, giving you a taster of what’s coming in 2019!

All we ask is that you can pull the reader in, do a cool write up review with pictures and at least have some knowledge of writing via websites.... C64 Roundup Weekly - Another exceptional week for C64 news! [Breaking news update]

This week has been another exceptional week for C64 news. We've seen a world's first C64 programming feat from Antonio Savona, a new Itch.io release, news of some great looking new games, and Commodore Format's world exclusive reveal: the return of a C64 legend. This has to be my last weekly roundup for a couple of weeks while I take a holiday. So enjoy the latest, and I'll be back early April.

STEEL JEEG - ZX Speccy game based on the 1970's Toei Animation of the same name.

Even more speccy heads up has been sent to us by Zbigniew "Saberman" ZieliÅ„ski, as he's come across a game called STEEL JEEG for the ZX Spectrum. Unlike the previous game we mentioned which was a puzzle game, this one is an action game developed by Francesco Forte using Jonathan Cauldwell's Arcade Game Designer, which is also based on the 1970's Toei Animation of the same name.

Indie Retro News Patreon Funding Campaign is launched!

Finally after being poked left right and centre last year to set up a Patreon Funding campaign to help Indie Retro News, it's time to announce that the campaign is now live! Yes indeed thanks to a kick up the back side ;) and Chris Wilkins of those awesome Fusion Retro Books such as The Story of the Commodore 64 in Pixels and The Crash Annual 2018 reminding us throughout 2017 we've decided now is the right time to launch for even more Amiga, Amstrad, C64 and even ZX Spectrum goodness!

So what do you get out of it? Well apart from more write ups from us which is really going to kick up a notch next week, we will hire extra writers, you will get some exclusive heads up news AND more awesome stuff in the pipeline ;)

Top featured blog at Tierragamer and a Merry Christmas to you all

Another year is fast coming to a close and Christmas is tomorrow with kids and adults opening up their presents and perhaps loading up the odd retro game or two in a fit of nostalgia. For us it's been a very positive year that has been filled with some of the best games for some time with not just the Amiga, but also the C64 and ZX Spectrum as the highlights on our website. Although there have been some difficult times in health, the website has gone from strength to strength and as such I'd like to say a huge thank to you all with a BIG Merry Christmas, AND finally to check out our latest award by TierraGamer, coming 1st place as the top popular blog :) 1) Links

ZX Vega+ update - A statement from Lee Fogarty

The ZX Vega+

The delay of the Vega+ has been well documented over the last year or so and the man that has been a vocal supporter of Retro Computers Limited - Lee Fogarty - has come under a lot flak due to these delays. As backers have been crying for updates, Lee has tirelessly tried to inform backers of the progress and urging them to keep the faith that the units will be ready to ship and in the hands of the backers on dates stated by the company. Targeted incessantly by the various vicious trolls that have emerged on the back of the Vega+ production, Lee has done well to keep it all together and to try and help to keep the project moving.

Indie Retro News is taking a break, back soon!

After 4 years of writing through the highs and lows of retro gaming it's time to announce Indie Retro News is taking a short break! No don't worry we won't be gone for ever, but as of this evening all writing will stop until either late Thursday or back on Friday. The reason for this is, I seriously need a time out as apart from one day stop when it turned out to be a disaster, I've never been anywhere away from my own area! Probably the addiction of finding the latest game news and keeping the site going doesn't help ;) But anyway, massive thanks to all of you who keep coming back, and don't worry, you'll see us again on Friday!

Indie Retro News is taking a short break

As many of you know I have been writing on my site Indie Retro News for many many years, and I feel now is the time to take a short break away and enjoy the lovely weather with loved ones. So don't be too concerned if you don't see any gaming news appearing over the weekend, as hopefully I'll be back later on Monday. Oh and I'd also like to say a huge thank you to all of my readers who keep coming back, so look forward to next week, as once more i'll be trying my utmost to bring you the latest in Indie and Retro gaming news. So see you soon Amiga, Atari, Amstrad, C64, ZX Spectrum gamers, you're all awesome!

Else We Get Mad! - A homebrew beat em up on the Amiga? YES!

This is a very rare thing for us to mention as news, but AmigaWave has made available a work in progress demo for their homebrew beat em up, 'Else We Get Mad!', which shockingly is for the Amiga with 512 Kb memory. Yes indeed from the same creators of the medieval adventure game Furtum Sacrum, comes the latest tease for a beat em up that has appeared on the Amiga that isn't an adventure game or platformer, something we see a lot of on this system.
