International Amiga Day - The day has come to celebrate the Amiga!

It's time to have an Amiga party as throughout the Commodore Amiga Facebook they are celebrating  the 'International Amiga Day 2022' for May 31st, which celebrates over 30 years of Amiga fun! The retro community want to keep the Commodore Amiga name alive and what better way to do that than an anniversary to the day dedicated to that great system with all the games being played, and hardware being used from the A500 to the A1200, to the CD32 to the A4000. If you lived during that era of gaming then it was one of the greatest moments in our retro history.

Top 11 Amstrad CPC Games of 2020

The year 2020 was a bit of a rubbish time for most people of the world... but there was some bright lights that were shone. Coders for the Amstrad CPC got hard at work and produced some of the finest games seen in many years. The amount of quality in particular was a step ahead of previous years, so making this Top 11 was trickier than ever before to wheedle down to the best 11.

RGDS Podcast interviews Indie Retro News!

Something completely different today and one I was trying to keep a secret until the time was right, but I've been interviewed by the excellent RGDS Podcast about Indie Retro News! Oh yes indeed after many months of discussion about it actually happening, the time is now for you to listen in, about how Indie Retro News came to be, how I became a retro gamer, the systems I've owned including an Amstrad and an Amiga, a bit about my family, some of the writers on Indie Retro News AND hopefully a personal thank you to all of YOU the readers. I was a little bit nervous, but overall it was a great experience and one, I'd happily do again on the RGDS Podcast!

Good afternoon gamers, it might be hot outside with the sun shining but have we got just the treat for you if you own a C64 or have the emulator Vice installed. This is a double explosion of fun, as n0stalgia have now released not just one great overhauled retro classic as an Easyflash, but two! It's none other than 'Commando Arcade SE, which is a special edition of their previous 2014 Commando Arcade remake of the classic game from the original way back in the early 80's and 'Ghosts 'n Goblins Arcade'; an incredible remake which is our most highly rated C64 releases ever! Both games now available in Easyflash format which means you can flash these games onto your very own cart, or as per usual play both through a 1541 Ultimate II or Vice!

Ghosts'n Goblins Arcade - A stunning revamp for the C64 is now available! (Indie Retro News Exclusive!) {UPDATE}

In March of 2015 Nostalgia blew us all away with their C64 release of 'Commando Arcade SE'; a brilliant Arcade revamp of the 1980's C64 hit classic Commando. It was a faithful version to the Arcade and featured more levels, new level features, new graphics, a new scroller and much much more. Yet they weren't content with doing just Commando, as Nostalgia are hopefully going to release Ghosts'n'Goblins Arcade this weekend, perhaps even today Saturday! (See Update). True to form, this version will once again be a faithful version to the original arcade, whereas the original Commodore 64 version is somewhat different from the arcade version as it only features the Graveyard and Forest, The Ice Palace, The Floating Platforms and Firebridge and The Caves in that order. So if you thought Commando Arcade SE was brilliant, wait till you play this latest overhaul!

A brand new release by TRIAD, 4th place winner of the C64 Demo Competition at Gubbdata 2015. International Amiga Day - The day has come to celebrate the Amiga!

Rejoice all you retro gamers as the time has finally come to get your Amiga out and relive the golden years of the Amiga 500, 1200 or whatever system you had at the time. It's International Amiga Day which is in celebration of Jay Miner who, according to Gyorgy Dragon, was the father of the Amiga and today is his birthday. And what better way to celebrate that day than to do something related to the Amiga, it can be playing Amiga games on an emulator, using the original hardware or turning the old girl white again through a multitude of chemicals. This is going to be a great day as thousands or even millions of gamers around the world will be celebrating what I myself had the pleasure of playing.

Wolfenstein 3-D - A retro inspired classic that really does feel like the original!

I recently had the pleasure of playing Wolfenstein 3-D : Machines of War, which is the 1st and 2nd free episodes to Jazz Software's action packed, first person retro inspired shooter, and let me tell you it's GOOD! It's not a remake of Wolfenstein just fan based episodes, but it does feel so much like the original game from the retro soundtrack and Nazi voices, to the classic action packed movement we've come to love from the original title. Although the tile textures are further improved from the original, the enemies remain as close to the classic pixels as we remember. The only downside I could find so far in my play through was the amount of times I got stuck in between bushes and I was even being shot from an invisible enemy, but apart from those flaws I'd still highly recommend this gaming retro inspired series.

Eye Of The Beholder 3 - Dungeon Crawler fans behold! A special free treat from Indie Retro News (UPDATE)

It was today that I added the last Eye Of The Beholder to my collection. The third EOB dungeon crawler RPG in the trilogy of Eye of the Beholder series, the Assault on Myth Drannor. Unlike the previous games it was not developed by Westwood Studios but in-house by the publisher SSI in 1993/4. The third and final game of the Eye of the Beholder series would see players embarking on a quest to the fabled ruins of the city of Myth Drannor. In my opinion it was still a worthy dungeon crawler, but many fans of the series did not like it at all, as it had over sized maze like maps, performance problems, unchallenging battles with poorly designed puzzles and the storyline wasn't so good. But yet I still enjoyed it, and today you can too, with a lot of those performance problems fan fixed! This is a completely portable runnable edition, fixed up by myself. No longer will you have to mess with lots of settings and copy over freely available files, nope. Just run and go! A real treat for Dungeon Crawler fans, so read on!

Top 50 cRPGs by RPG Codex - Drool at the massive list of highly voted RPG listings!

Here on Indie Retro News this is the first time I've posted about another site that votes on games but this is well worth checking out. Through a massive list of classic RPG's (depending on your age), RPG codex have gone through them and given us their top 50! RPG Codex have also listed even further ones that didn't make it into the top 50 but pushed into a runner up listing. As they describe - This year, a record-breaking 234 bros & sis took part in the voting, where each would have 25 points to distribute among what they believed are the best cRPGs ever. Exactly 5,945 points where distribute between 223 computer RPGs (no console exclusives were allowed), ranging from Temple of Apshai - released in 1979 -, to Heroine's Quest - released in 2013. Overall, 34 years of glorious incline.
