OpenTTD 1.4.2 - Open Source Transport Tycoon Deluxe gets a stable release

FreeOrion - Open Source Master of Orion inspired 4X strategy 0.4.4 release!
It has been a long time coming but finally we have a brand new release of FreeOrion; a turn based 4x strategy game with inspirations from Master of Orion style titles. Developed as an Open Source release, FreeOrion is currently at v0.4.4 RC2 which is nearly a year from it's previous release and according to the developer fixes nearly over 100 commits. Although FreeOrion isn't a Master of Orion beater it's looking to be far better than the spreadsheet that was Master of Orion 3, with lots of lovely battles, colonizing and researchable technology.
Freeciv - Open-Source Inspired Civilization game (New 2.4.3 version release)
If like me, you were a huge fan of the original Civilization, then you've got to try this fine open source inspired game based on that very title. Freeciv, which is a free and open source empire-building strategy game inspired by the history of the human civilization, has now got a brand new 2.4.3 stable version release! Prepare yourself for many hours of lost sleep as you develop your civilization from the Stone Age to the Space Age in an incredible game experience.
CaesarIA - Open Source remake of Caesar III vb1941 released!
Even though the open source remake of Caesar III is still going through a Steam Greenlight campaign, the development of the "CaesarIA" public build has been available for some time. Originally developed by Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment, CaesarAI improves upon the great city management game with further fixes and additions that was not available in the original release. Today the developers have announced the release of vb1941, although I could not find any updated changelog details.
OpenTTD 1.4.2-RC2 - The Latest bug fix release for Transport Tycoon Deluxe
In June of 2014 OpenTTD 1.4.1 was released to the public, which was an Open Source version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. An incredibly fun and addictive real time strategy and management game with you running a transport company, based on the original Microprose title. For those of you keeping up to date with the latest versions, the team behind the open source development have released the latest 1.4.2 RC2, which contains a number of fixes such as wrong breakdown sound was played for ships. Available for PC, Mac and Linux as a standalone release, read the changelog for more.
DOOM RETRO v1.5.0 - .1 - The latest Doom source release
Brad Harding has just released version 1.5.1 of DOOM RETRO, a classic, refined DOOM source port for Windows PC. This version although just a small point release has numerous bug fixes and a number of improvements, such as performance optimizations, a splash screen and more. In regards to 1.5.0 that was the bigger release as it had an almost countless number of tweaks and optimizations, and a set of bloody effects that hopefully didn't come across as too “brutal”.
OpenMW 0.31.0 Released - Morrowind Open Source main quest is now finishable!
It's been a pretty busy week in the Open Source scene, as another game has recently had a big update and that game is none other than OpenMW, based on the very popular RPG, Morrowind. The OpenMW team behind the game have been hard at work at pushing the original game to new heights, from new features such as improved interfaces and journals to Improved graphics by taking advantage of more modern hardware. The team also make sure to fix plenty of bugs, do note though that unlike other Open Source versions you will need the original Morrowind, so make sure to read the change log.
OpenIG : Imperium Galactica Open Source Remake adds a trade screen!
What do you get if you have one of the best retro space strategy games and then turn it into one of the best open source remakes, you'll most likely end up with OpenIG. Which is an open source standalone version of Imperium Galactica, a hit strategy game where you colonize the stars and involve yourself in a rather cool fmv based story.
Gigalomania - Open Source RTS remake of Mega Lo Mania
Some time back here on Indie Retro News we did a big feature for the very famous and awesomely enjoyable RTS Mega Lo Mania. So it's great to see that the developer of Gigalomania, which is an open source 2D remake of that very game, have released the latest build of 0.27. Although I'm a purist and prefer the original, this latest version features updated graphics and is available for a rather large list of systems such as Windows, Amiga OS, Mac OS X, Linux, AROS, Nokia Symbian, Maemo, Meego, and Android.
OpenXcom - Open Source Xcom 1.0 feature release!
Another great bit of news today as OpenXcom, which is the new open source version of X-Com originally released by Microprose in 1994 has now hit the big 1.0 version release. Replay one of the best strategy games ever made as you take control of an organisation in a task to defend the Earth from an invading alien force. Build bases, research new tech, arm your team and stop the alien menace in a top down turn based strategy game that has lasted the test of time.
OpenTTD 1.4.1 - The latest Open Source Transport Tycoon Deluxe release goes final!
What great news today as OpenTTD has been updated to 1.4.1 and thus a final release, which contains many bug fixes and improvements from the previous version (especially the more important crash fixes). As such it's well worth updating from the previous final and using this version as soon as possible. A little bird has just tweeted us that OpenTTD has been updated to 1.4.1 RC2, which contains a number of bug fixes that have cropped up from RC1, namely an issue for multi-head train refits at stations, and an old bug where cargo was not ageing. If you want to keep up to date then it's worth updating from the previous final release, if not wait until the next final which should be very soon. OpenIG : Imperium Galactica Open Source Remake fixes planetary bugs
David Karnok has recently released the latest update (0.95.174) to his free open source remake of Imperium Galactica, OpenIG. This was a hit strategy game where you colonize the stars and involve yourself in a rather cool fmv based story. Although not much of a change log with this release it does fix the problem of planet names when using the random galaxy generator from the previous version. This is one of the best open source remakes available and if you love space strategy games you've got to play this!
DOOM RETRO v1.4.3 - The latest Doom source release fixes bugs!
Brad Harding has just released version 1.4.3 of DOOM RETRO, a classic, refined DOOM source port for Windows PC. This update fixes many small bugs from 1.4.2 and includes a new feature related to pixel art, so well worth updating. A highly recommended source port of the original bloody thirsty classic that even works with gamepads!
0 A.D - A FREE high quality open source strategy game that has a new Alpha build
I'm sure many of our readers are huge fans of Age of Empires, then it might be worth your time to check out 0 A.D, which is a free open source strategy game that has some very striking similarities. It did originally start off as a mod for Age of Empires but then moved to it's own engine as a standalone game. Developed by Wildfire Games, you play as the leader of an ancient civilization who must gather resources to raise an unstoppable army against your enemies. Build buildings, create new citizens, gather resources and new army units in a brilliant open source game that's still in alpha development for both PC(Windows) and Linux!

CaesarIA - Caesar III new open source remake announced via Steam Greenlight!
Although the development of CaesarIA has been ongoing since last year, it wasn't until it appeared on the Steam Greenlight page today that it caught my eye. CaesarIA is an open source remake of a classic management, strategy game called Caesar III from Impressions Games and published by Sierra Entertainment. A game that took many hours of my life away in enjoyment, a game that reflects upon the life of the Roman citizen. In other words, you are in control of Roman life, build for them, develop the city and be the best provincial governor, charged with spreading the glory of Rome. CaesarIA improves upon the great classic with further fixes and additions, but you will need the original Caesar III game to play.

OpenIG : Imperium Galactica Open Source Remake has implemented random galaxy generator in latest release!
Another open source game that has also had a nice update and that is OpenIG, which is an open source remake of Imperium Galactica. A hit strategy game where you colonize the stars and involve yourself in a rather cool fmv based story. The developer of OpenIG, David Karnok has just announced the release of 0.95.173 which contains a feature not in the original game and that is a random galaxy generator. Although in the original main game had up to 340 planets, by modding it can have even more. As this is free and open source, you do not need the original game to play. Just download and run (Java needed)

After many days of beta testing, the developers of OpenTTD have finally released the latest final build of OpenTTD v1.4.0 to the gaming community. OpenTTD is an open source version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, an incredibly fun and addictive real time strategy and management game with you running a transport company, based on the original Microprose title. This latest version has many fixes and improvements, but the biggest by far is the newly added map sizes of up to 4096x4096.
