Originally from 1986 by FTL/Gargoyle, ' Shockway Rider ' is a futuristic game in which the speedy player must go through multiple districts using rapidly-moving side walks known as the Shockway. Speeding on the A 81 - Steering wheel based C64 release by Technische Maschinenfabrik

Checking our messages we came across one by Genesis Project wondering how we missed their latest trainered C64 game ' Speeding on the A 81 ', which only just recently was released by Technische Maschinenfabrik. Well for two simple reasons, one being extra busy and two I thought it was an educational game. Yet how wrong I was as this game is nothing to do with education, as it is in fact a high score top down speeder, in which you need to miss all the other cars and gain the highest score possible on the A81.

Amiga forum user offers £400 for Stunt Car Racer at 50/60 frames per second!

In the late 80's, Geoff Crammond with publishing rights by MicroStyle/MicroPlay released the incredible game of ' Stunt Car Racer ' for a multitude of platforms including the Amiga. It involved you the player racing around a 3D track in a first person view using a vehicle which had boost capabilities. It was also one of the greatest racing games ever released and what made it so great was the fact that all of the tracks were like rollercoasters, with such dangerous driving and incredible heights involved it would've killed anyone if it was real life. But this month as a bit of a shock, a member by the name of Twinbee has set out a challenge with a high £400 payment to anyone that can tweak the original code to run at 50/60fps!

Racing Apex - Could this be the next Virtua Racing game?

If your gaming youth goes back to the 90's, I'm sure you'll remember the high speed 3D Polygonal racer called ' Virtua Racing '. Which had its roots at the Arcades and was later ported to home systems such as the Sega Megadrive 32X by SEGA. But there is a new retro inspired game that has appeared, titled ' Racing Apex ' by Lucky Mountain Games,  which aims to bring the best of that awesome racer but adding in modern gameplay elements such as combat and multiplayer chaos.

Super Night Riders - Motorbike riding retro inspiration out on Steam!

Through all these years of writing, we always get to see retro inspired games that are either platformers, shoot em ups or beat em ups. We've also seen the odd racer that looks like some sort of mental trip back to the 80's, but we have yet to see a decent Motorbike game, at least until now. This is Super Night Riders by Neko Works, a completely wild ride as you race through 36 beautiful stages in 6 challenging courses as fast and as far as possible to reach each checkpoint.

Maximum Car - From the creator of Fist of Awesome comes an adrenaline Voxel racer!

Two incredible games that I remember fondly, classed as a Leyland Corporation Double Pack, that will have you hooked for hours racing around tracks in an Indy Car or bumping into your mates in a 4X4 as you boost towards the finish line at any cost!

OutDrive - Trippy 80's racer aims for a Steam Greenlight success

From the year 2015 and now 2016, it seems as if the 80's-90's racers are back in full force, as we've had a number of games now that take us back to the days of Lotus and Outrun all at top speed while also adding psychedelic colours with a totally radical wave soundtrack! Yet now it's time for another game to race to the top spot, with the latest Steam Greenlight addition of ' OutDrive'!

CGA: Christmas Game Arcade - A tiny racer but full of CGA fun!

I can't believe we missed out on this one on Christmas day, as not only is it a jolly good racer but it takes us back to a time of 1980's CGA graphics. A time when games such as Golden Axe, Defender of the Crown and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where shown in 4 colour detail on IBM's first graphics card! So yes, we were pretty excited when we came across abstauber's CGA free racing game of' ' CGA: Christmas Game Arcade ' in which you need to race along a highway, picking up presents that have accidentally been dropped by Santa!

E-Type - BBC Micro racer conversion for the Atari 8bit!

Searching through the atariage 8bit forums for more games to play, as we took some time off over the Christmas period, we came across a rather interesting racing game that might be worth a play via an emulator or even an original Atari 8bit system. This is E-Type ( no not R-Type ) by Fandal, a full BBC Micro to Atari 8bit conversion of Gordon J. Key and published by The Forum Dimension game, that was classed as a clone to Sega's arcade driving game of Out Run, which featured a blue Jag instead of a Ferrari.

ZX Spectrum Retro Review - Stunt Car Racer

Stunt Car Racer is a 3D racing game by Micro Style, released in 1989 on all the main platforms of the time, and as a budget title three years later on the Kixx label. The action takes place on a raised roller-coaster style track, such that had this come attached to a Hot Wheels licence no-one would have been surprised. Your car is delivered by crane to the start line, and your task is to race one on one against a series of competitors - preferably without coming off the track.

Over two months ago Thomas Ilg announced the pre-order for the boxed edition of the Atari ST homebrew game ' Laser Ball' (link). Developed by Leigh and released by Excess, ' Motorman Preview ' is a game that even at this early stage is looking to be one of the most enjoyable games in development.
