DuckTales 2 - Play as Darkwing Duck in this great two player hack!

With so many console games from our past being hacked with improvements such as graphical enhancements or even English translations, I'm really starting to wonder if I should get another everdrive SD cart so I can play all these hacks on original hardware. In actual fact it's today's seriously cool two player hack of the 1993 Capcom NES game ' DuckTales 2' by Ti, that almost pushed me over the edge to actually get one!

Metroid - Rogue Dawn - Unofficial NES prequel to the original Metroid game released!

Another great release today and this is for all you NES gamers across the globe, as Grimlock, Optomon, snarfblam and team have released ' Metroid : Rogue Dawn ' version 1.10; the unofficial prequel to the first Metroid game released way back in 1986. This rather eye opening prequel shows the events that unfolded before Samus's famous Zero Mission on planet Zebes, it puts you in control of Dawn Aran on a mission to retrieve a newly discovered biological specimen in the possession of a Federation research crew orbiting planet SR388.

As it's nearly Christmas most of you lucky ones have probably got a lot of people coming over for a family get together, or mates round for a quick booze up. So you'll probably need something fun to play that isn't just your usual online Call of Duty frenzy via your Xbox one. So here we have Tetsudou Ou: Famicom Boardgame, aka Railroad Baron for the NES, which is a 4 player game that has been fully translated into English by Jink640, MrRichard999 and Proveaux.

Ace Combat 3 - A grand English translation released for a Playstation 1 game

Thanks to a heads up by our good friend VizionGamer via our twitter feed, we have learnt of the release of the English translation for Ace Combat 3 on the Playstation 1 by Team NEMO. You probably haven't heard of this game before, that's because the better version was released in Japan in 1999 as Ace Combat 3 : Electrosphere; an arcade air combat game by Namco. The problem was with the game and according to romhacking, the original story was altered and the characters were cut from the NTSC-U and PAL regions. Now thanks to Team Nemo the original Japanese game is back as it should be, but this time all 52+ missions are now in English!

Out Live - A Dungeon Crawling Turbografx-16 English translation

Yet again here we are mentioning another Dungeon Crawler style game, but this time we wont be featuring a band of adventurers looking for loot in some far off cavern, but a Sci-Fi crawler fully English translated on the Turbografx-16 by Nebulous Translations. Now you've probably never heard of this one, but this is 'Out Live' by Sunsoft; a first person mech/robot controlling experience through 3D tunnels that was released way back in 1989 in Japan. According to Romhacking, You start your journey on planet Lafura (you’re investigating your friend’s disappearance) with 1000 credits, 1000 life units and a vulcan gun and must blast your way through dangerous zones!

BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets - An Obscure Zelda game gets a BIG translation and more!

What an incredible end to the week especially for Zelda fans across the globe, as BS Zelda no Densetsu, also known as 'BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets', has received a full English dub restoration. If you've never heard of the game, which until today included me, it was a score attack version of 'A Link to the Past', featuring high quality CD music and voices, but had to be played during a satellite broadcast. This rather jaw dropping release on the SNES according to Romhacking, is a full 4 hour English dub restoration available in both the original music arrangement and a custom orchestral arrangement. It also features a full voice cast including professional voice actress Kira Buckland (Danganronpa, Disgaia, Skullgirls) as Zelda, and is even playable on real hardware with a sd2snes.

Family Trainer 8 Totsugeki! Fuuun Takeshi Jou - Takeshi’s Castle NES English translation

Some more cool news straight out of RomHacking is the NES English translation of Family Trainer 8 Totsugeki! Fuuun Takeshi Jou into Family Trainer 8 Showdown Takeshi's Castle. Now if you remember the game show that used to air on Sky TV, it involved a number of contestants trying to accomplish many different hilarious challenges to reach the end. Basically falling in mud off moving platforms was one such challenge failure. This game for example is based off the popular Japanese game show, which is now in full English thanks to AgentOrange and MrRichard999.

This colourful game is a Sailor Moon themed competitive puzzle style game originally released in Japan way back in December 1995 and published by Bandai!

Wizardry Chronicles gets a full English translation on the PC

More glorious news today as Romhacking has announced the full English translated release for 'Wizardry Chronicles'. Originally a Windows 2000 game and only released in Japan, this was a spin off from the main Wizardry series of RPG's and replaces the traditional fantasy races with new names. Other than that it is your typical dungeon based RPG, but at least now you can play it in English thanks to MrRichard999 and team with over 2 years worth of development.

Monster Tactics - Complete overhaul of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PSX

It isn't very often we feature games for the original Playstation, so how about the recent announcement for the complete overhaul of Final Fantasy Tactics as ' Monster Tactics '. Originally released in Japan in 97 and then in USA in 98, Final Fantasy Tactics was a tactical role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix) and combines elements of the original Final Fantasy games with a isometric, 3D, rotating battle system. This latest hack overhaul has almost changed the completely with not just the battles themselves, but also to the mechanics!

Kaettekita Mario Bros - Mario Bro's FDS gets a full English translation

Something different today for our retro gaming readers, especially if you remember the Family Computer Disk System (Famicom), as MrRichard999 has released the full English translation for 'Kaettekita Mario Bros', which originally was an updated version of the original Mario Bros but one of the few Famicom Disk System games available exclusively from the Famicom Disk Writer and not sold separately. Released in Japan in 1988, and based on the Arcade Mario Bros game, this was an odd remake that was sponsored by Nagatanien, a Japanese food company, which also featured a number of different changes...

Shadow Brain - NES Sci-fi Dungeon Crawler gets a full English translation

If puzzle games such as the recent Dr Mario NES hack, mentioned previously, is just not your thing, then how about a full English translation of the NES sci-fi dungeon crawler ' Shadow Brain ', which was only just released by Aishsha and Stardust Crusaders. As noted by Romhacking, Shadow Brain looks very much like Megami Tensei, and the game when originally released actually came with a VHS tape that provided the backstory. Although they don't have the VHS tape on hand, they have provided a full translation in the archive.

The Rainbow Silkroad - Full translation for a 90's NES trading RPG

Some great news today for NES owners, as Aishsha and Pennywise have done a complete translation of the NES RPG trading styled classic of ' The Rainbow Silkroad ', which was originally released way back in the 90's as Niji no Silkroad. Although I don't know much about the game, Romhacking was on hand to help and have said you take the role of the long-lost prince of Littleland, who must reclaim his throne from the guy Zrool that took the throne and was evil.
