Micro Gotek - Move over chunky Gotek Floppy Emulator it's time to go Micro

At the beginning of this year we did a big feature packed review of the Gotek Floppy Emulator; a hardware device that allowed you to use USB memory sticks to load floppy files, on not just an Amiga, but an Atari, Amstrad and many others! Now it seems the original Gotek might be about to go the way of the DODO bird, as today we've come across the Micro Gotek, a Gotek Floppy Emulator that's so small it's only 47x46 mm!

WinUAE 4.0.1 - The best Amiga Emulator gets a bug fix update

In June of this year Toni Wilen announced through the EAB forums the latest version of his Amiga Emulator had reached a new build of ' WinUAE 4.0.0 ' ,which featured a number of updates such as Beam Racing Lagless VSync, Virtual multi monitor support and much much more. But it seems as if there were some issues that needed to be addressed as this highly regarded Amiga emulator is once again in our news feeds but this time not so much as a final build, but a bug fix update fixing the issues that appeared in WinUAE 4.0.0. See change log for details...

WinUAE 4.0.0 - Another feature packed Amiga Emulator release!

WinUAE 4.0.0 + DamienD Game Pack

After a number of weeks of beta updates with notable changes, we have recently found out that Toni Wilen has released a brand new WinUAE version 4.0.0 with major features, bug fixes and new emulated expansions to take us through June and possibly beyond. Regarded as one of the best Amiga emulators and always being worked on by Toni, this release doesn't just have Beam Racing Lagless VSync, but also Virtual multi monitor support and much much more. Barbarian+ - A feature update for this upcoming Amiga game overhaul

Barbarian is a one-on-one fighter game whereby you have to take down your opponent using a variety of moves, of which the majority involve your sword. You can spin it around and wait for someone to walk into it, an over-the-head chop is also available along with a side swipe as many of the preferred ways to kill in this late 1980's game. But even though it is rated as a great game, there's a team of people out there who have decided to give it a much needed overhaul based on the Amiga version not providing any improvements over the C64 version, except sound and a higher screen resolution (Colin's post)

Barbarian+ - An enhanced version of a classic game is coming to the Amiga

Earlier this month we were hinting on Indie Retro News that the classic game of Barbarian(Death Sword) which was first released in 1989 for a multitude of retro systems was coming to the Amiga as an enhanced version with an overhaul to the colours and possibly more. Well you'll be pleased to know it is actually happening and the team behind the game have shown off some more screenshots.

Barbarian+ - Is an enhanced version of a classic coming to the Amiga?

Barbarian(Death Sword), was first released in 1989 for the C64 and later ported to other systems such as the Acorn, Amiga, Amstrad, Atari, Apple II, BBC Micro, MS-DOS and even the ZX Spectrum. It was a cool game indeed that featured a one to two player mode as a Barbarian faced each other off in deadly combat, with even a deadly ability to be able to slice at each other to the death, which usually ended up with a head being chopped clean off and kicked to one side. It is was a game that has lived on through a generation and after a number of fan ports that have appeared in the past, it looks as if the Amiga is going to get its very own enhanced version called ' Barbarian+ '.

Bad Ninjas vs Rick & Joe- Amiga game demo using RedPill

This game was hard to miss when it came out today, especially when both Per Ola Eriksson and Zbigniew 'Saberman' ZieliÅ„ski gave us the heads up. As the demo of Bad Ninjas vs Rick & Joe has been released by Ricky Place for the Commodore Amiga, requiring at least 020/030, 2mb, chip 8mb fast, 14mhz!

WinUAE 4.0.0 beta - The first beta of a brand new Amiga emulator branch is announced

Yet again after lots of beta updates and the final of 3.6.0 in Jan and 3.6.1 in March, we have just been informed through one of our friends that Toni Wilen has launched a new beta branch for WinUAE version 4.0.0 with the release of Beta 1. This Amiga emulator has gone through many stages of development through the years and as always Toni Wilen always finds the time to either fix these bugs or add new features. As for what is added or fixed in this version, please see the changelog below.

Bomb Jack Beer Edition - Enhanced classic WIP for the Commodore Amiga gets a great beta!

It's not even the start of the week and do we have some great news for you! As Graeme Cowie has once again contacted us regarding his Bomb Jack Beer edition with a new beta update. Yes this rather nice Arcade to Amiga conversion has reached even higher heights, as not only does it look a lot better, but it's so much nicer to play which makes it a worthy download indeed!

3DNes V2 - A rather cool emulator that lets you play NES games in 3D hits version 2!

Great news this afternoon as Geod has released the latest version of his very special emulator which allows you to play many NES games completely in 3D, 3DNes V2! This rather cool piece of software that's available for the PC allows you to run true 3D graphics for old flat CRT screen NES games which can be played in any resolution, with customization graphics and full mono or stereo sound! What a brilliant Emulator, which really shines with a 3D graphical Mario, Castlevania or even Megaman!

WinUAE 3.6.1 - The best Amiga Emulator gets another feature final!

Yet again after lots of beta updates and soon after 3.6.0 was released in Jan, we have just been told by by Guitar Anthony that Toni Wilen has released a brand new WinUAE version 3.6.1, much to the excitement of the Amiga community. Many of us thought that 3.6.0 would be enough to keep us going through the entire year, but not so, as with 3.6.1 comes new fixes, features and expansions! Basically another great edition for the best version of the Amiga emulator!

BetterWB 4.3 - A more slimline approach to Amiga workbenches!

No I know this isn't a game nor is it a package of eye candy, but we've just learnt that BetterWB has been released with an update of 4.3. Now some of you might ask what exactly BetterWB is, well if you've ever installed a Workbench package on an Amiga and wanted the most of your resources and not bothered about how it looks, then this is the package for you! According to the source it's very much like AIAB, Amikit, AmigaSYS and ClassicWB but instead is an updated extension to AmigaOS 3.1, without all those hardware requirement penalties typically associated with these kind of packs.

Gotek Floppy Emulator - Say goodbye Floppy Drive, there's a new king in town!

Through all these years I've always been a purist when it comes to loading games on an Amiga. It just had to be via a floppy drive as that adds to the nostalgia from when I was a child. The problem however came about weeks ago when during its last load, the floppy drive was dead and working disks were becoming hard to track down.... Thus I had to move with the times. Welcome to the Gotek Floppy Emulator; a hardware device that allows you to use USB memory sticks to load floppy files, on not just an Amiga, but an Atari, Amstrad and many others!

DamienD's WinUAE Collection - A MASSIVE Amiga haul of playable games using WinUAE Amiga emulator!

DamienD is no stranger to the Amiga community, as through 2017 he had released many Amiga CD to Hard Drive conversions that enabled us to play those classic games without the need for the CD. Games such as Code name Hell Squad, Wasted Dreams, and T-zer0 to name but a few. But this time he has excelled himself, as instead of doing a conversion he has released the DamienD's WinUAE Collection; a massive pack of games through 12 years or more of work, which enables YOU the gamer, to play over 11GB of games already set up through the latest edition of the Amiga emulator WinUAE.

WinUAE 3.6.0 - The greatest Amiga Emulator gets another feature packed final!

Yet again after many months of beta updates with a ton of fixes and improvements, today is the day that Toni Wilen has released a brand new WinUAE version 3.6.0. Throughout last year and following on from WinUAE 3.5.0, this latest edition once again proves that this really is the best Amiga emulator you can use for playing games, watching scene demos or installing an OS ready for use on a real Amiga.

Sid Meier's Pirates! - One of the best games I've ever played, Yarrr!

It is incredible to think that the original Sid Meier's retro gaming hit of 'Pirates!', from way back in the late 80's can still be played today and enjoyed by people of all ages. It had you sailing your very own ship such as a fast sloop, capturing other ships, looking for treasure, sword fighting on deck, and marrying a rather pretty lady! In fact it was a highly addictive game that appeared on the Amiga, Amiga CD32, Apple II/IIGS, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and many others. So if you want to play this game right now without setting any emulators up, here's the Amiga version ready to be launched on a home PC!

Klystrack - Modern software for creating C64/NES/Amiga-style chiptunes!

I know for a fact that I am no good at creating music apart from banging a few keys here or there which usually ends up with people leaving the room. But what I do like is listening to music such as retro chiptunes or even demoscenes and tracks found on an Amiga or a C64, usually created with software such as Protracker (Amiga) which allows people to create music without studio equipment. But what if you don't have an Amiga, a C64 or a NES? Well then, welcome to Klystrack; a tracker for making C64/NES/Amiga-style chiptunes on a modern platform that can also be used for creating audio for games!

A/NES PRO - NES/Famicom 8-bit emulator for classic Amigas updated!

Our Twitter buddies Amiga Love have recently tweeted a rather interesting update for classic Amigas, that involves playing NES games on an Amiga requiring a 68020 CPU and a few megabytes of FastRAM. That update is the release of A/NES PRO v1.19; a NES/Famicom 8-bit emulator for classic Amigas which was coded by Morgan Johansson and Fredrik Schultz, created in 680x0 assembler and optimised for classic Amiga hardware

FLASHFLOPPY - First alpha release of new FREE and OPEN Gotek firmware!

The Commodore Amiga Facebook community is one of the best places on the internet whereby users around the world can come together and share anything and everything they want related to the Amiga and have fun doing so. But as is the case with this group, there's always one such member who stands head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to helpful advice or software to push the Amiga community forward. And so this week Keir Fraser has announced the first alpha release of the new FREE and OPEN Gotek firmware, which will read and write ADF and HFE images!
