Dad Quest - Hilarious child throwing platformer needs your greenlight votes

When it comes to all those games made by different developers you'd think there wouldn't be anything more to offer in a strange kind of way, but one such game really stood out in a long list of greenlight campaigns and that was ' Dad Quest ' by Excaliburgames and Sundae Month. This is in fact a child throwing platformer for the PC, in which you need to fulfil your Dad's quest to the legendary island. As each Dad dies, its Child will grow up, obtain a Child of their own and will seek to finish what their Dad started; to complete this grand Dadventure.

XYDONIA - High quality shoot 'em up targets a Steam Greenlight success

A great bit of retro inspired news has just appeared in our inbox, and it's none other than the previously mentioned Shoot em up ' XYDONIA ', which is not only going through a Steam Greenlight campaign, but on June 27th the developers will be aiming for a Kickstarter success. If you love side scrolling shoot em ups, and the names R-Type, Project-X, Gradius or Darius give you goosebumps, then XYDONIA developed by Breaking Bytes for the PC is just what the doctor ordered!

Thy Sword - Retro styled action platformer needs your Steam Greenlight votes!

The sun is shining and the weather is warm, so rather than be outside enjoying it, i'm here writing about a cool looking pixelated retro inspired action RPG platformer called ' Thy Sword ', which is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign. Developed by GamePhase, and for the PC with a demo available, Thy Sword draws its inspiration from Norse mythology. Also according to the developers it also has a hint of Conan the Barbarian and from great games such as Golden Axe and Moonstone.

Pan-Dimensional Conga Combat - Frantic Arcade game by RGCD is now available!

Oh joy of joys, RGCD has recently informed us of the recent release of their rather frantic Arcade arena style shooting game of ' Pan-Dimensional Conga Combat ', which is now available to buy for the PC. From the same team behind those great games such as Aviator Arcade II, Trance Sector Ultimate and R0X EP, comes a game that aims to be a little bit of Gridwars mashed up with a classic Snake. Oh and it has more action and trippy effects that you could possibly handle!

UBOOT - PlayWay aims for a WW2 Survival Sandbox Kickstarter success

Just as I said last time, when it comes to games associated with PlayWay, you just know it is going to be a Kickstarter success. Well PlayWay and in development by Deep Water Studio's, have once again jumped into the Kickstarter crowd funding way of life with their latest game ' UBOOT '. Which is a WW2 Survival Sandbox Simulation aboard your very own submarine from the WWII era, with all its wave breaking, torpedo firing charm intact.

Sluggy's Tiny Adventure - Cute platformer with unique abilities, gets a Steam Greenlight campaign

While trawling through the Steam Greenlight campaign listings, I happened to come across a game that I believe may appeal to even our hardiest of retro gaming fans. Called ' Sluggy's Tiny Adventure ', and in development for the PC due end of 2016, this game is a Castlevania-inspired platformer with a unique difference. With a lovely pixelated graphical design, a cute and also at times creepy overtone, you have the ability to shapeshift into many different abilities, to both fight and explore the depths of the wizard's lair!

DOGOS - Eye popping shoot em up, gets a Steam Greenlight campaign

Enough with the retro games already, lets talk about some Indies! So here we are with 'DOGOS' by Opqam; which is a visually impressive shoot em up, inspired by the classics, but with far more drool worthy detail, that needs your Steam Greenlight thumbs up. In this game you play as Desmond Phoenix, a skilled pilot in command of a multitude of ships, packed to the teeth with deadly weaponry, against the Zeetnuk forces!

The Abbey of Crime Extensum - Full PC remake gets a Steam Greenlight campaign

In March of this year, we were one of the first news sites to give you the heads up for the excellent PC, Mac and Linux remake of Opera Soft's rare Amstrad and ZX Spectrum classic of, ' The abbey of crime ', also known as ' La abadía del crimen '. Regarded as one of the best video games for the 8-bit system with a high level of detail, a decent plot, good mapping, sound and much more which made it a worth while game to collect. The enhanced remake developers which released it as a free download have announced it will hopefully appear on Steam, when it receives enough of your Steam Greenlight thumbs up!

NIGHTHAW-X3000 - Retro styled shoot em up in a trippy 80's feel goes greenlight

I thought I'd put aside the purely retro games for the moment and look towards the latest Steam Greenlight additions that may be worth your big thumbs up. One of those games is N94 Games, 'NIGHTHAW-X3000', which is a very frantic and non stop shoot em up that also takes its inspiration from the psychedelic 80's. In their words " a stylish shmup with action hotter than the girls of Miami beach and visual style prettier than that of a VHS which was recorded once! ".

METAGAL - Another retro styled platformer aiming for a Steam Greenlight success

With so many action platformers that have come and gone, I'm starting to wonder if we should name our site to Indie Platformer News, but if that did happen, I think some would probably start to riot! Well anyway, here is another platformer that impressed me enough to write this article, ' METAGAL ' developed by Retro Revolution, which is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign, and needs your thumbs up!

Saving Princess - Retro styled action platformer aiming for a Steam Greenlight success

Even though the game was available to buy since last month through their main site, the developer Brainos is hoping their action platformer ' Saving Princess ' will now be a Steam Greenlight success for the PC. Classed as an old-school game with neat pixel art and an amazing soundtrack, you play as Portia Crane, Asset Recovery Specialist and have one task to accomplish, to save the princess or the war is lost! Be warned this wont be easy as this Metroid and Megaman retro styled game has lots of enemies, fiendish traps and big bosses that will try their utmost to stop you.

The Castles of Dr. Creep - A C64 game has appeared via Steam Greenlight!

Way back in 1984, ED Hobbs with publishing rights by Broderbund, released the rather genius game of ' The Castles of Dr. Creep 'for the C64. It was a two player platformer with a heavy emphasis on puzzles and required the player(s) to escape from each castle through a vast network of interconnected rooms. This was made more difficult by contraptions and traps such as Conveyor belts, force fields, laser guns, mummies and Frankenstein monsters. A good game indeed, but today I've learnt that this game has appeared for PC, Mac, Linux and is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign.

Don't Crawl - Duo control retro inspired platformer needs your Greenlight votes

You probably read my earlier post about people being a bit bored of platformers, but hear me out. 'Don't Crawl' which is going through a Steam Greenlight campaign isn't your average platformer, unlike the finish the level by jumping over enemies and picking up items along the way style of game, this one is not only retro inspired but it features a two player hero and enemy control system. One player controls the hero who tries to beat the levels whereas the other one takes control of the monsters and tries to kill the hero and then take their place!

Moira - A Game Boy inspired spell crafting action platformer gets a Kickstarter!

Truth be told there are a lot of platformers out there at the moment that are either in development or have already been released, this is especially true when it comes to the ZX Spectrum homebrew scene. So I thought I'd give a shout out to a rather special looking action platformer, that has the inspiration from the Game Boy while also influenced by games such as Kirby’s Dream Land, Kid Dracula, Megaman and Wonder Boy. Welcome to ' Moira ', a brand new game by Onagro Studios with a demo, that is currently going through a Kickstarter campaign AND is a Steam Greenlight success!

Spellrazor - 80's neon strategic roguelike starts Greenlight campaign

"A haunted game from 1981" reads the strapline for Spellrazor, the latest creation from Fluttermind Games, led by Dene Carter (Fable, Dungeon Keeper, Druid). It's a neon, glowy, glitchy mix of Paradroid, Robotron, and rogue-likes with a sinister storyline and eerie feel. Sounds awesome!

Dark Quest 2 - Could this be the next Hero Quest? Gets a Kickstarter!

Way back in the early 90's a fantastic top down game based on an original board game was released by Gremlin, that became hugely popular to the point of receiving great reviews and ending up as one of the top most recommended games to have in any retro collection. That game was none other than ' Hero Quest ', a video game adaptation with a great soundtrack, of the fantasy board-game from Games Workshop and Milton Bradley. So you'll have to forgive my over excitement as I have just found out about ' Dark Quest 2 ' developed by Brain Seal Ltd, which is a turn based RPG inspired by that legendary game and currently going through a Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight campaign.

Shadow Gangs - Retro inspired Shinobi aims for Greenlight success

Checking our Inbox for the latest news to be mentioned, we came across a game that has the look of an arcade/console classic but given a more modern touch. Sure enough ' Shadow Gangs ', which is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign for PC, Mac and Linux, is inspired by the fighting classics such as Shinobi, Shadow Warriors and Double Dragon but has a higher graphical detail but still containing those fighting moves which were a standard with games of this genre.

AGGELOS - Colourful retro inspired platformer Greenlight success!

After our big feature for Wonderboy Bobi, Storybird Games, retro inspired platformer of ' AGGELOS ', we are pleased to announce the game is a Steam Greenlight success. Coming to PC at some point this year, AGGELOS is about a sword wielding character that must fight, earn experience, and acquire two essences to beat Lord Vammer and find the princess. The game will have lots of enemies, bosses, item collection, spell casting and deadly traps in a colourful world that harks back to the days of the Sega Mega Drive or the SNES.

Crazy Otto - Pac-Man style antics from Extend Mode - Gets a Steam Greenlight campaign!

We were recently given the heads up from one of our twitter followers, of a new game that's currently aiming for a Steam Greenlight success, that looks very similar to Pac-Man but with more than just your usual scattered pellets. In fact, ' Crazy Otto ' as the game is called, is actually a 2016 conversion of the Arcade game of the same name but developed by Extend Mode. Unlike that 1980's title though, this one adds an extra twenty four levels, eight simultaneous players, full support for vertical monitors and what I think sounds really awesome in ' Crazy Otto ', is the ability to play as either the good guys or the bad guys, and battle it out with your friends.

MachiaVillian - Monster mansion management game looks for Kickstarter funding

French studio Wild Factor have just announced their Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming monster management game MachiaVillain. Although this is the studio's first project, the team are hardened industry gamedevs and MachiaVillian is the extension of a high ranking Ludum Dare entry.
