I've always been an Adventure gamer on both my Amiga and PC, and have such fond memories of games such as The Secret of Monkey Island, Simon the Sorcerer, Fable, Kings Quest and even the Quest for Glory series. So to hear about a brand new Adventure game with a fantasy twist known as ' Guard Duty ' by Sick Chicken Studios, that's going through a Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight campaign, I was pretty excited.

Cthon - Retro inspired first person sci-fi shooter that looks seriously cool
Have you had enough of hearing about platformers and strategy games and instead prefer blasting lots of enemies in a similar gameplay style and graphics to that of the original Doom, System Shock, Wolfenstein 3D, Hexen or even Chex Quest? Then come and play 'Cthon' developed by Gravity Games; an old school sci-fi first person shooter, where you become a cybernetic weapon against the dark legions of a powerful evil entity - known only as the Cthon.

Kingdoms and Castles - A charming city builder aims for a Steam Greenlight success
When I was but a young gamer one of my most favourite pass times was to build mighty castles, look after my villagers with food and housing, and defend them from attacking foes. This is probably why I was so hooked on games such as Castles and even The Settlers. So to find a game that is very similar but with dragons and vikings, in a world of charming detail I just had to give it a mention. This is Kingdoms and Castles, a brand new city builder that not only needs your Steam Greenlight votes but extra crowd funding as well.
OverBite - A charming platformer with a bite gets a Steam Greenlight campaign (+Demo)
Ladies and Gentlemen Dracula is back and this time he's just a little bit annoyed! Developed by Hotdog Laser, Dracula has returned from his grave after a long recovery at the defeat at the hands of the legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing. The problem is what was once a menacing character of evil, has pretty much been turned into a laughing stock, with cartoons, plushies and t-shirts. So it's down to you to remind them who Dracula really was, he's annoyed, he's got a bite and he's in OverBite, which is a charming looking platformer that's aiming for a Steam Greenlight success.
Warlock Revenge - A first person shooter inspired by DOS classics aims for a Greenlight success
To be honest although I do play the odd modern day first person shooter such as DOOM or Battlefield 4, I'm still a huge fan of those retro classics such as Blake Stone or even Wolfenstein 3D, which are both playable through Dosbox. So it came as a surprise to me to learn of a new first person shooter aiming for a Steam Greenlight success, that is inspired by those classics but with a dark Gothic overtone. This is ' Warlock Revenge '; a retro look first person shooter that is coming to the PC and developed by Narayan Games.

Most likely this voxel based arcade game, ' The Videokid ', which is being developed by Pixel Trip Studios and is now aiming for a Steam Greenlight success for both PC and MAC. In this game you play as the video kid set in a retro 1980's neighbourhood filled with danger, you must deliver your pirate videos to everyone on the street while pulling off manic tricks and slick combos to finally reach your girlfriend in time.

Backyard Team are hoping for a Steam Greenlight success this month, as they have just started a campaign for their rather lovely looking Adventure game ' Lost in Bardo ', which is in development for PC, Mac and Linux. Although not much is known about the game other than a story about Sam, travelling through the alleys of her mind, it does look to have high quality artwork, multiple locations, interesting characters, a fine soundtrack and a unique adventure experience with challenging puzzles.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts or Ghosts 'n Goblins but without the frustration factor is what most people are saying about the latest Steam Greenlight campaign for 'Super Conquerors'. A 2D platformer inspired by the classics from the 80's and 90's which features a Spanish Conquistador on a quest to unveil the mysteries of an unknown and dangerous island. You'll be battling through several retro visualised levels and facing strange creatures all the while unlocking new abilities in lovely 60fps gameplay.

Death's Hangover - A new take on breakout and it looks fab!
If you remember those classics such as Arkanoid or even Breakout you might be in for a treat with BlueStarGeneral's Steam Greenlight campaign for 'Death's Hangover'. It takes the best bits from the ball bouncing and wall breaking antics from Breakout, and adds in their very own unique touch. Instead of the coloured bricks and sliding grey bat, in this one you're bashing barrels, hitting walls, killing bats and bosses, collecting coins and powering up all the while trying to defeat Dracula who has stolen Death's souls!

The explorer of night - Minimalist platformer is aiming for a Steam Greenlight success
Checking through the latest Steam Greenlight campaigns, we happen to across a game called 'The Explorer of the Night' developed by Alexander Bondarenko. A game that we felt stood out with its unusual colour design and for the fact it's a platformer which is one of my favourite genres. If you remember us talking about this game before, that's because it was originally available as a demo through gamejolt and now looks as if the developer is pushing for a completion and a Steam Greenlight success on PC and Linux.
XYDONIA - High quality shoot 'em up is a Kickstarter success
Glorious news today for the developers Breaking Bytes as not only is their fantastic looking retro inspired shoot em up ' XYDONIA ' a Steam Greenlight success, but they've also reached their Kickstarter goal of €20,000 with 5 days still to go. This is one game I'm very excited to get my hands on, as it gives us a taste of the blasting days of the 80's and 90's such as R-Type, Gradius or Project-X but adding in the developers own ideas to make this something rather special.
Mahluk Dark demon - A very dark platformer needs your greenlight votes
We get so many platformers it may bore some of you who visit the site, so I feel the best way forward is to mention ones that I personally feel deserve that greenlight thumbs up. This is especially true of ' Mahluk : Dark demon ' which is a rather dark and atmospheric hack and slash platformer that is currently going through a Steam Greenlight campaign. In this game you play as Mahluk a dark glowing eye'd demon, that must stop the forces of darkness and the evil king Kindar, as a quest for redemption!

Great news today from the developers GamePhase, as their retro styled pixelated action platformer 'Thy Sword', is now a Steam Greenlight success! Currently available as a demo, with development for the PC, Thy Sword draws its inspiration from Norse mythology, with a hint of Conan the Barbarian and other great games such as Golden Axe and Moonstone. It also features, as we said before; single or co-op, player vs player, procedurally generated levels, different environments such as forests and mountains, different weapons, spells and enchantments, Loot, lots of enemies and bosses, steam achievements, and unlockable content, all mashed up in lovely pixel art with chip music using the SID from the C64!
