Mineshaft Gap - A real-time strategy game for the C64 by Drmortalwombat

While it's been nice to take a bit of a break from endlessly writing day after day, I thought it would be best to at least write up one article for Wednesday, with Drmortalwombat's new Commodore 64 game of Mineshaft Gap. A real-time strategy game for the C64 where you control up to 32 independent bunker dwellers in their strive for a less radioactive better future. To coincide with this late hour news story, we've got some further details about the game, as well as the all important gameplay video from Saberman.

FreeCol - Open source colonization 1.2.0 release


A year in development since the previous build, the latest open source colonization "FreeCol" 1.2.0 is now available for download. Based on Sid Meier's Colonization (Microprose) in which the player manages the cross-Atlantic expansion of an established nation in the service of the Crown, this is an open source version which is also very similar to Civilization. Starting off with just a few colonists and looking for new lands, will you succeed for a new nation or be wiped out by the natives. 

Dune II: The Building of A Remaster - Development of a new Amiga AGA and OCS version by Westwood's Robert Koon!

I'm sure many of you remember Dune II, one of the greatest RTS games of our time, an all time classic developed by one of the greatest developers Westwood, which was released for the Amiga, MS-DOS and a later release on the Sega Megadrive in 93. Well if you do remember it ( more specifically the Amiga version ), then at some point Robert Koon, who was part of the original Dune 2 team at Westwood, will be releasing a new Amiga AGA and OCS remaster. A new version of the game which is sure to excite many in the Amiga community.

Party Speedway Extended & The Kaufmannsgilde & Spediteur - Triple the fun in these new games for the C64 via K&A+ #25 magazine!

I'm a huge top down racing fan, from games such as Micro Machines to Supercars and Indy Heat on the Amiga. Well here's another top down racing game you might like to try that was recently released on the Commodore 64, it's 'Party Speedway Extended' via K&A plus; An enhanced version of a tiny sprite racing game that originally came 1st place at the WiLD Demo Competition at Teddy Beer C=64 Party way back in 2022. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a new video showing the final build of the game. A game which is available as a collector’s box, a single physical release or digital download attached to the K&A+ #25 magazine.

Devolution - A real-time strategy game for the C64 and MS-DOS by Windigo Productions

Something slightly different for your evening entertainment, as we have recently been contacted through Facebook, to tell you that the same creator of the awesome Commodore 64 game of Deathflood Dungeon of Doom, has released the Commodore 64 and MS-DOS game of 'Devolution' via the itch io page and main website linked below. To coincide with this news, Saberman has done a video of this rather unique strategy game by Windigo Productions!

Funfair Inc - A Bullfrog Theme Park inspiration as a preview for the C64 by Arlasoft

Well this came as a complete surprise to us, and one I'm eager to play later today on my Commodore 64 . As thanks to Saberman telling us through Facebook, we've been told that Arlasoft has made available a downloadable preview of his Theme Park inspired game called 'Funfair Inc' for the C64 !Yes indeed if you loved playing the classic Bullfrog title released on multi systems back in the 90's, a game featuring all the puking, building and ride creation you could ever want, will be pleased to learn you can try out this unfinished version on your C64!

SOH Tactics GX - A new Puzzle Strategy game appears for the Amstrad CPC Plus and GX4000

Another Amstrad game has appeared in our inbox, as XeNoMoRPH was kind enough to let us know earlier today, that if you're looking for a one to two player turn based strategy game with enemy units fighting it out on screen, it might be worth checking out the SOHDE team's new Amstrad CPC Plus and GX4000 game of 'SOH Tactics GX'. To coincide with this new game update, Xenomorph has also done a video below showing the game in action.

Settle The World - A Colonization fan game for the Amiga by Theo Theoderich gets a preview download!

If you loved playing Sid Meier's Colonization, then it might be worth keeping an eye on Theo Theoderich's in development game of Settle The World. A game that isn't just inspired by the classic that many of us still love to this day, but according to the creator who gave us the update. Settle The World is in development for the Amiga BlitzBasic Jam 2022 as a turn based building and trading game with you versus another player (Single Player mode is also planned, but it will be all the more difficult because there are no trading partners - EAB).

Dynatech 30th Anniversary Edition - HOT NEWS as a new international Amiga game release has appeared! (2 MB/AGA Amiga)

Here's some HOT NEWS for all you awesome Commodore Amiga gamers out there, as we've just found out through the EAB forums, that epithetic has released an unofficial remaster and English localization of Eleven's classic 1992 game of Dynatech for the Amiga as "Dynatech 30th Anniversary Edition".  Dyantech was originally released in Germany by some of the same people from reLINE who made Oil Imperium and Fate - Gates of Dawn , and an international release was planned for the following year but sadly never materialized..... Until now.

Torn Metal - This upcoming RTS for the ZX Spectrum 128k looks pretty damn cool!


Top down Strategy games are a bit of a rarity on the ZX Spectrum, mainly focused on platformers, shooters and puzzlers. Well here are with a rather special announcement that I think many people will be interested in, as we've just found out that at some point in the near future, Marie Slip, Black Cat, Surfin’ Bird, Fatal Snipe and Mikhail Gamaev will be releasing their real time strategy game of 'Torn Metal'; A monochrome game that could almost be described as a mix of Dune 2 and Command and Conquer.

Attack of the Petscii Robots - Action Adventure game from David Murray/8Bit Guy is coming to the Amiga as a port by Vesa Halttunen

Something slightly different for your evening entertainment, as we have recently been contacted through Facebook, to tell you that the same creator of PLANET X3, who we know as David Murray/The 8bit guy, has not only made available the Action Adventure game of 'Petscii Robots' for the Atari XL/XE, Atari, Applie II, C64, C128, Plus/4, and VIC 20. But a NES version of the game is in development, as well as a brand new port for the Commodore Amiga by Vesa Halttunen. To coincide with this news, you can view some new footage of the different versions of the game below.

Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis has been partially ported over to the ZX Spectrum! (100% Working!)

Call me an old timer but I love talking about the days of DOS, a time when the only thing in front of you other than a computer was a blinking command prompt waiting for you to run a game such as C:\, C:\Dune and Dune.exe. So to get a Facebook message from Saberman, that Dune II from 1992 by Westwood Studios was partially ported over to the ZX Spectrum with the intro, speech, and yes even the gigantic sandworm intact, I just had to give it a worthy mention on IRN.

Eudora - A game developed by Deerbell with a hark back to classic RTS games such as Dune 2

Call me an old timer but I love talking about the days of DOS, a time when the only thing in front of you other than a computer was a blinking command prompt waiting for you to run a game such as C:\, C:\Dune and Dune.exe. So to browse through the itch.io website and come across a lo-fi real-time strategy game inspired by classic DOS games like Dune 2 and the Command and Conquer series called Eudora, I just had to give it a hearty mention!

Free Mars - Turn based free strategy PC game about colonizing Mars

For those of you who love playing the 1991 hit strategy game of Civilization will be interested in this piece of news, as Daniel Blake has let us know through Facebook, that you can download the latest version of Free Mars by arikande; a turn based strategy game about colonizing Mars, which is also heavily inspired by that classic game Civilization intermixed with the Mars scenario which can be found via Civilization 2.

Yes indeed if like me you loved playing the classic Bullfrog title released on multi systems back in the 90's, a game featuring all the puking, building and ride creation you could ever want, will be pleased to learn you will be able to play a Theme Park management sim on your C64 as of December 2020.

Pharaoh: A New Era - A remake of the 1999 city builder 'Pharaoh' is coming!


Well this came as a complete surprise to us and to be honest I'm very excited for it, as if you remember playing the great strategy city builders of Pharaoh and the expansion Cleopatra: Queen of the Nile by Sierra Entertainment. You'll be overjoyed to learn that Triskell Interactive with publishing by Dotemu, will be remaking the game as a full graphical overhaul including 50 missions and over 100 gameplay hours and calling it Pharaoh: A New Era. To coincide with this news, a new trailer has been released showing the new intro, some gameplay, and that gorgeous soundtrack.

OpenTTD 1.10.3 - Open Source Transport Tycoon Deluxe gets a new build


We haven't featured any open source strategy games for a little while now, so here is the latest build for Transport Tycoon Deluxe is the new version of ' OpenTTD 1.10.3 '. Although this was released earlier this month and didn't appear in our inbox, I thought it still worthy of a mention especially as Transport Tycoon Deluxe by Chris Sawyer was one of the highlights on the PC in the mid 90's.  This open source version makes the game so much better especially if you enjoy running your very own transport company, such as bigger maps, stable multiplayer mode for up to 255 players in 15 companies and much much more.

OpenRCT2 project - Open-Source adaption of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 gets a new final build


We've been featuring the open sourced version of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 for some now, going as far back as when Indie Retro News was but a blip on the internet. But now fast forward to this month however, and thanks to a great heads up from one of our MS-DOS Gaming! members, we've been told OpenRCT2 has not only been updated to a final build of 0.2.6 but a new preview version has also been made available as version 0.2.6+.
