Super Uwol - Uwol Quest For Money gets a two player update for the SG-1000 & SMS
In 2009 The Mojon Twins with publishing rights by Ubhres Productions released the homebrew platformer of ' Uwol, Quest For Money ' for the ZX Spectrum with a much higher quality port for the Sega Genesis and then the MSX 2 by Imanok in July of 2016. Today however the game has got a rather lovely 2 player addition and ported over to the SG-1000 with a new name of Super Uwol. As a heads up by the devs the game has been finished for some time, holding back until the crowdfunded physical copy of the main port (the NES version of the game) was ready and works on the SEGA SG-1000 range of consoles (Mark I, Mark II) including the Master System!
Action Fighter - An early SMS prototype of a commercial racing shooter
In 1986 Sega released the top down racing shooter ' Action Fighter ' for the Arcades and later over to the Sega Master System. The aim of the game was to speed ahead in a multitude of vehicles such as a sports car, jet , jetski, helicopter or F1 while blasting or bumping everything in your way. It was a very enjoyable game that has reappeared this month but this time as a very early prototype with a number of differences compared to the retail release.
Sky Fighter - A SMS Shoot em up dump is the first version available on the internet
Even more retro goodness from our friends SMS Power is the recently internet released 'Sky Fighter' for the Sega Master System. This game by Clover Soft 1990 is a top scrolling shoot em up that according to SMS Power, was first discussed in HG101 article on Clover Soft, showing a single screen from an advertisement. It was apparently released on both MSX and SMS, but up to this day the MSX version hasn't surfaced. This SMS dump of the game is the first version available on the internet.
Cave Dude - Unreleased Prototype for the Game Gear playable on SMS
SMS Power! have been busy this past week as they have come across a number of prototypes which have been dumped and made playable through a real Sega Master System or emulator such as Fusion. The first game is a platformer called ' Cave Dude ', an unreleased prototype Innovation Tech tried to get released on the Game Gear in the US. Also known as Toto World 3 in Korea and part of the Australian 4 Pak All Action Compilation.
CIMMERiAN - Head chopping Barbarian port with jaw dropping SMS detail
I have decided to save the best till last, and I believe with this new Sega Master System port demo, I think you'll agree the detail is just mind blowing. Developed by Ichigobankai for the SMSPower! competition 2016, ' CIMMERiAN ' is a high graphical quality "pseudo" port of the famous Barbarian, which appeared on many different systems including the Amiga. If you don't remember the game, you control a Barbarian in a single screen combat scenario and must use sword chopping movements to put your opponent to the ground, with or without his head.
Bara Burū - A new Arcade homebrew for the Sega Master System
With all those Alex the Kidd games released this week, you'd probably think we were going to mention another one, but now it's time for something completely different. This is ' Bara Burū ', developed by Kagesan, for the Sega Master System. An Arcade game released during the coding competition 2016 with some rather interesting inspirations. In fact, if you went by what everyone else was saying on the forums, this is Shinobi Kidd meets Bubble Bobble!
Ma Kai Quest - A total conversion of Alex Kidd in Miracle World for the SMS
This day just gets better and better, as after already mentioning the Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2 mod for the Sega Master System, along comes another one that is sure to appeal to many of our readers. Unlike the previous fan based sequel of that very enjoyable game from the late 80's by Sega, this one is called ' Ma Kai Quest ' and is a total conversion of Alex Kidd in Miracle World, released by badsector, thelowestdefinition, Mandulin & Calindro.

In 1987 Sega released the great side-scrolling platform game ' Alex Kidd ' for the Sega Master System console. Although it was first released in Japan in 1986 but internationally in 1987, it was one of the most well known games as it was also built into most Master System II's. For anyone that has played the rather enjoyable original, will be pleased to know that during the Hack competition 2016, a creator by the name of Ian has released the ' Alex Kidd in Miracle World 2 Mod ', which is a direct fan sequel to the original Alex Kidd in Miracle World and features more than just a new title screen!
Axel the Penguin - Platformer inspired by Master System classics (Steam Greenlight)
Ceresoft has announced through a Steam Greenlight campaign, their latest retro platformer of ' Axel the Penguin ', which is inspired by classic Sega Master System titles. Using the same 16 colour pallet as the original console, the developer aims to create the spritework and soundtrack of catchy tunes in that retro flavour, but featuring traditional platforming and puzzle solving with a twist. In this game you play as Axel, and must unlock doors to strange worlds and fight mighty enemies to rescue his girlfriend and return home!
A Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System all in one, most impressive!
In 1987 the Sega Master System was released in North America as a direct competitor to the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the third generation of video game consoles. The Sega Game Gear however was released in 1991 primarily competing with Nintendo's Game Boy, the Atari and Lynx sharing much of its hardware with the Sega Master System. So what does one user by the name of Eric Bishop do? He blends them all into one mighty Sega Master System console that plays the original SMS and Sega Game Gear games!
Lander 2 - Lunar Lander inspired release for the SMS!
In 1979 Atari Inc released Lunar Lander for the Arcade, and the object of the game was to pilot a lunar module onto the moon via a safe landing. Using vectored thrust you had to avoid obstacles such as the landscape while safely navigating to the required spot for a successful completion. I found it very enjoyable for its time and was pleased to hear of an inspired release for the SMS during the 2015 coding competition called 'Lander 2'.
Ski Master - Skiing Arcade fun for the SMS
If you have a Sega Master System with a Megaever Drive or have an Emulator, then you are in for an arcade treat, as another SMS release for the coding competition 2015 has appeared. With similarities to Horace Goes Skiing, in 'Ski Master' by efry, Niloct, edwin diaz you play as a skier on a downhill race to reach the finish line.
Zombi Terror - Zombie adventure ported to the SMS
Fans of The Walking Dead might want to come and check out the latest adventure 'Zombi Terror' release for the Sega Master System by Paulo Silva, in which you explore an island avoiding Zombies and finding new areas for protection. Available in multiple formats including the C64. ZX, MSX, and PC you must move through different locations, performing special actions such as North and South while battling it out with horrific Zombies by the means of a dice rolling system.
Bruce Lee - Fantastic homebrew Sega Master System release!
In 1984 Datasoft released a brilliant arcade platformer called 'Bruce Lee' which was based on the famous motion picture martial artist. It was and still is a highly regarded platformer that is still loved to this day! It even has a great soundtrack which can be listened to many times over. Yet in 2013 Bruno R. Marcos released the PC successor Bruce Lee II and in 2015 Jonas Hulten released a true C64 port of Bruno R Marcos's release. But today we are going to go even further and announce the release of a homebrew port of the original Bruce Lee but for the Sega Master System!
Batman Returns on the Sega Master System: Could have just as easily been Spider-Man
“There must be something half-way playable on the Sega Master System,” I thought aloud with no one around to hear. Well, lookie here: Batman Returns. Now I know Batman on the NES by Sunsoft was just awesome with its side-scrolling action, amazing soundtrack, beautiful environments and cutscenes. How bad could Batman Returns on the Master System be?
