Boss Machine - Upcoming Amiga shoot 'em up by Kevin Saunders and team gets another tease!

Yet another Shoot 'em up is about to grace our home computers, as thanks to a heads up in the Commodore Amiga Facebook group, we've been told that the cool looking Shoot 'em up of ' Boss Machine ', has been teased again with new footage. As mentioned by our previous write ups, Boss Machine is a high quality Amiga AGA game that is in development by Daniel Stephens‎, Kevin Saunders and Lee Smith.

Space Firehawk - A Space Firebird (1980) inspired shoot em up for the C64

We certainly get a lot of Shoot em ups for the C64, I mean seriously how many SEUCK games have we posted on Indie Retro News? Yes a lot! Well here's another Shoot em up many 80's Arcade gamers will remember, is Space Firebird; or as the developer puts it on the main website, a Space Firebird (1980) inspired shoot em up for the C64 called 'Space Firehawk'.

Inviyya - A seriously cool Amiga Shoot Em Up is coming, now with BOX ART and exclusive Screenshots!


It might be time for dinner, but for us the great news never stops. As we've just been informed by the team of TIGERSKUNK, that the eagerly awaited Amiga game of 'Inviyya' published via poly.play, is not only going to be released as of February this year, but as an extra tease for all the Shoot 'Em Up fans out there. The team have also shown off some brand new box art, some extra info, and via Indie Retro News exclusive new screenshots!

Soul Force - Eagerly awaited C64 shoot em up from Sarah Jane Avory is finally here!

While many of you are still eagerly awaiting Sarah Jane Avory's upcoming RPG of 'Briley Witch Chronicles' or madly clicking joysticks blasting away enemies in the most enjoyable of shoot em ups Zeta Wing or Neutron, you might be interested to know, that thanks to a heads up via Protovision, we have been told that you can now purchase and download the fabulous looking game of Soul Force; a 100% 6502 assembly developed game for fans of the Shoot em up genre!

Zap Fight Trilogy - An EPIC shoot em up series 'enhanced' hits the C64

Glorious news for this late Christmas evening, especially you are a fan of shoot em ups, as Psytronik Software has released the latest frantic shooter series for the C64 called ' Zap Fight Trilogy'. Featuring the graphics of Alf Yngve, code by Martin Piper and music by Richard, this rather eye opening shoot em up series is inspired by the classic game Slap Fight and features lots of blasting action and plenty of power ups to keep you busy.

Bullet Storm - Tactical ZX Spectrum shoot em up by VolatiL (team)

Moving away from the platformers and top down Arcade games, as we now look towards a decent shoot em up for our ZX Spectrum wave blasting fun, as another game was featured in the Yandex competition and that game was 'Bullet Storm' developed by VolatiL (team). Unlike other shoot em ups we've featured before, this one is a horizontal shootemup without scrolling, with a lot of action and a little bit of strategy.

The Shoot 'Em Up Destruction Set 3 - Kick ass C64 games by Alf Yngve, Richard Bayliss and Carl Mason


If you fancy a bit of kick ass shoot em up action on your C64 then look no further! As checking through the latest itch.io updates we've come across The Shoot 'Em Up Destruction Set 3; a seriously cool pack of C64 games from Alf Yngve, Richard Bayliss and Carl Mason published by Psytronik. Inclusive in the pack are not only great games such as Zap Fight and Blue Beret, but also Spy Rider and the Operation Wolf inspiration of Operation Firestorm.

ICARUS - Early in dev shoot em up from Japster's Cavern gets a playable build (Windows)


Other than adventure games and platformers, I've also had a great fondness for shoot em ups, from retro games such as R-Type and Project-X to modern inspirations such as the fabulous Super Hydorah. There isn't a Shoot em up that I'd turn away from just to pick up a power up and blast a few waves of enemies! So to see a high quality shoot em up that's in development by Japster's Cavern called 'ICARUS', that has inspirations to games such as Scramble, I was just a little bit excited.

Corsair Trainer - A very impressive Amstrad Shoot em up demo'd by Bitplane Technomantes


Listen up Amstrad owners have we got a special treat for you! As this week thanks to a heads up via Saberman, we have found out that Bitplane Technomantes has released a demo of a rather cool looking Amstrad shoot em up called 'Corsair Trainer'. This game first shown at the Assembly Online Event, looks to be an upcoming game that doesn't just feature smooth scrolling, but pixel perfect accuracy and gameplay to that of an Arcade blaster!

Oxygene Be Prt2 - A horizontal shoot'em up with a Uridium vibe for the Atari XL/XE


I haven't given much love to the Atari XL/XE this past week, so here's a side scrolling shoot em up you might enjoy, and that's the ABBUC Software Contest 2020 entry of 'Oxygene Be/Part #2'. This game which is available for download, is very similar to the hit classic of Uridium by Hewson Consultants and the 1986 clone of 'Psycastria'; basically a game in which you must fly your space ship from one direction to another blasting enemy waves without dying.

Infinite Space - A new side scrolling C64 shoot em up from Arlasoft


Fancy playing a new release whereby the main aim of the game is to keep blasting waves of enemies as a side scrolling shoot em up, then you've come to the right place. As thanks to a heads up by Saberman, he has told us Arlasoft has released the C64 game Infinite Space; a game which was written in 6502 assembler for the Commodore 64. This game available to download and play in your browser, is a game in which you must last as long as you can against the invading hordes arriving from deep space. 

Zeta Wing - Rejoice as Sarah Jane Avory's C64 Shoot em up has arrived!


Another HOT NEWS story for the C64 community as we've just been told by Sarah Jane Avory, that she has finally released the wicked looking C64 Shoot em up ' Zeta Wing ', which can be downloaded for $3.99. This game of which we have featured many times before prior to today's release, is an eagerly awaited top scrolling shooter developed by the ex-SEGA game developer and author: Sarah Jane Avory who is also working on a fabulous RPG for the C64 called ' Briley Witch Chronicles '.

Ftype - An upcoming Amiga Shoot em up developed by Fabbroz


New games are coming in thick and fast for the Commodore Amiga, as not only did we mention Chicken Chaser, BlitzWays, and EON Amiga, but as of now another game has just appeared to whet our appetites. Titled as Ftype, this new game being developed using Amiblitz3 and coded by fabbroz. Is an upcoming top scrolling shoot em up, in which you must destroy waves of enemies and end of level bosses.

Red Sunset - A rather cool Amstrad 128K Shoot em up is released by ESP Soft


Listen up Amstrad owners have we got a special treat for you! As this week thanks to a heads up via our twitter page, we have found out that ESP Soft has released the full version of their classy shoot em up called ' Red Sunset '. This game which previously appeared as a Xmas Demo, is a high quality Amstrad game that was developed by ESP Software with music/fx by McKlain, graphics by Sad1942 and programming by Artaburu.

Tiny Galaga - An Arcade classic as a tiny Amiga OCS/ECS Demake


Prepare to have your minds blown, especially if you have an Amiga! As we've been told by a good friend of ours that the 1981 classic Arcade game of ' Galaga ', has been released on the Commodore Amiga as a Monochrome tiny demake. This game originally developed and published by Namco Japan and by Midway in North America in 1981, as the sequel to the 1979 game Galaxian. Puts you in control of a mighty spaceship that must destroy waves of enemy formations that are out to destroy or capture you!

Twin Tiger Shark - Retro inspired shoot 'em up that looks seriously cool


There's nothing like a damn good shoot 'em up, especially one that is inspired by the era of the 80's and 90's classics. So here we are with Twin Tiger Shark by Wide Pixel Games, a game that is true to its roots and looks to be an awesome title indeed. With an online score system, wide screen control rotation support, 6 stages, lots of enemies, big bosses, 3 difficulty settings, 3 weapon types and some cool power ups, this is a top quality shoot 'em up that we'd recommend.

Nucleo 448 - A cool SEUCK C64 sci-fi shoot 'em up


Trawling through the latest SEUCK Compo 2020 enteries looking for a decent C64 game to play, and one that stood out in the crowd was Leonardo Vettori's updated C64 Shoot em up of ' Nucleo 448 '. This game according to The New Dimension, is an updated version of Nucleo 447 from the C64 SEUCK Compo 2019, that is enhanced with aiming aliens, a new status panel, power ups and a kick ass tune by Richard Bayliss with tape loader by Martin Piper!

Vega - C64 Scene demo becomes a Shoot em up


Usually when it comes to scene demo's, they are released by groups, containing awesome tunes, scrolling pieces of talented artwork, and other such greatness hoping to win that top spot in a competition. I mean who hasn't heard of Fairlight, Noice and Offence before? Well anyway, what if rather than watching a scene demo you could actually play one? Welcome to Vega; a damn fine demo originally released by Delysid in 2017 that can now be played as a C64 shoot em up inspiration by Atwoods Studios and trained by Excess!

Spearhead - Large sprite C64 shoot em up released for the C64


Another day and another C64 announcement, as trawling through the latest dimension updates, we've come across a new game from Alf Yngve and Richard Bayliss called 'Spearhead'; a large sprite SEUCK developed game, in which your mission is to fly the Spearhead fighter across hostile territory, and destroy the four enemy strongholds. If you succeed in blasting the fourth and final stronghold, the message "YOU DID IT!" will appear and you've won the game!

Warhawk - Rusty Pixels is overhauling an 80's blaster for the ZX Spectrum Next (pre-orders ready!)


Way back in 1986 Firebird Software released the scrolling shoot em up game ' Warhawk ' for the Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Amstrad and the C64. The gameplay involved lots of top down scrolling action as the player had to deal with lots of obstacles before the ultimate wave of enemy ships attacked the player at the end of each level. So if you remember this game you'll be pleased to know Rusty Pixels and Flashbang Studio have announced a release date and pre-orders for their upcoming enhanced overhaul for the ZX Spectrum Next.
