PET Space Invaders 2 - An updated and improved version of a 1980's Commodore PET classic!

We've seen lots of Space Invader variants over the years, from Havie's Blitz Basic version of the game on the Amiga, to our personal favourite from Pink/Abyss called 'Tiny Invaders'. Well yet again we've been sent another version of Space Invaders for you to enjoy, and it's Jimbo's Commodore PET game of 'PET Space Invaders 2' ; An updated and improved version of the original PET game from 1980.

Well yet again we've been sent another Amiga homebrew version of Space Invaders which has been mentioned to us by Saberman, and it's Amiten's work in progress game of Aminvaders; A nod to the 1978 classic with original Arcade graphics, classic sound effects by Tacha and new music by Dani Hermans.

Y.A.S.I.C - Yet Another Space Invaders Clone for the Vic20 +16k

I'm sure many of you remember Space Invaders, a game that was first released way back in 1978 in the Arcades in Japan with a further release made available in the United States and a much later version in the 1980's on the Atari 2600.  Well if you do remember it and all the money lost down at the Arcades, you'll be interested to know that as of today you can download W E de Villiers latest Space Invaders clone called Y.A.S.I.C for the Vic20 +16k!

Invanoid - An Arkanoid and Space Invaders mix as a demo for the Commodore Amiga

What do you get if you mix the 1986 Arcade game of 'Arkanoid' and the 1987 game of 'Space Invaders'? Probably this latest game from djpiotrs called 'Invanoid'; a brand new game demo in which playing as a bat like device scrolling from side to side at the bottom of the screen, you must bounce an orb back and forth while destroying waves of enemy ships that slowly traverse towards you. To coincide with this news Saberman has done a video of the game which can be viewed below.

Petscii Invaders - A Petscii clone of the classic 'Space Invaders' game for the C64

I'm sure many of you remember Space Invaders, a game that was first released way back in 1978 in the Arcades in Japan with a further release made available in the United States and a much later version in the 1980's on the Atari 2600.  Well if you do remember it and all the money lost down at the Arcades, you'll be interested to know that as of today you can download Guido Cauli's Petscii based game called 'Petscii Invaders' for the Commodore 64!

Defence - A Galaga / Space Invaders mash up appears as the 4th entry into the MSXdev22 competition.

We've featured Galaga on Indie Retro News a number of times already, there was the Atari 2600 port, the excellent demake on the Amiga by Pink and Fade One and then the more recent C64 release by Arlasoft. Well fast forward to today however and there's another Galaga style game that may be of interest to anyone owning an MSX, as GameCast Entertainment has released their Galaga/Space Invaders mash up of Defence for the MSXdev22 competition.

Space Invaders - The all time classic game 'Space Invaders' arrives on the ZX Spectrum NEXT

Yet another Space Invaders game has appeared in our Indie Retro News inbox, as we've recently informed through Facebook, that the classic game of Space Invaders which was previously in development by SplinterGU for the ZX Spectrum NEXT, has now been released. Yes indeed this game which was also created for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by the same programmer, has been converted/ported over to the NEXT as a game developed in C and ASM. To coincide with this news, a new video has been shown which can be viewed below.

Space Invaders - Yet another Space Invaders game and this time it's coming to the ZX Spectrum NEXT

Yet another Space Invaders game will soon be upon us, as we've recently informed through Facebook, that the classic game of Space Invaders is in development by SplinterGU for the ZX Spectrum NEXT. Yes indeed this game which was also created for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis by the same programmer, is coming to the NEXT as a game developed in C and ASM. To coincide with this news, a new video has been teased which can be viewed through Facebook.

Space Assailants 2121 - A New Atari 8bit and Atari 5200 Space Invaders clone!

We've seen lots of Space Invader variants over the years from Sprite Invaders on the C64, to our personal favorite from Pink/Abyss 'Tiny Invaders' on the Amiga. Well another Atari homebrew variation of Space Invaders has just appeared, and this one by Anschuetz is called ' Space Assailants 2121'; An Arcade like release which pits you against waves of Aliens avoiding all of the scrolling stars instead of dodging missiles shot by the Aliens themselves.

Now here's a blast from the past, a game based on probably the oldest mentioned game on our site ' Space Invaders '. Released in 1978 as an arcade shooter developed by Tomohiro Nishikado, your task was to defeat waves of aliens and earn as many points as possible, while trying to avoid being shot at or touched by the slowly lowering waves. This game however ' Cosmic Jailbreak ' which is based on that classic, is a lost and found C64 game recovered by Black Beard and preserved for release. A game which in itself was originally released on the PET and VIC 20 in the early 1980s by Commodore.

Yet another Space Invaders game is upon us, as we've recently informed through the Itch.io website, that the homebrew version of Space Invaders, which has been developed by SplinterGU, has been finalized with a brand new version for the ZX Spectrum and ZX81; a game that is yet another clone of a classic that was first released way back in 1978 in the Arcades in Japan with a further release made available in the United States.

Let's Invade 2 - A psychedelic Space Invaders on the C64 by Richard Bayliss


Some years back we mentioned Richard Bayliss's Space Invaders game with a twist ' Let's Invade! '; a C64 game which takes the original Arcade 1978 Shooter Space Invaders by Tomohiro Nishikado and adds psychedelic moving backgrounds with upbeat trance music. Well fast forward to this month and we've been informed by Saberman, that The New Dimension with coding and music by Richard Bayliss has released the sequel for the R.G.C.D 16KB compo called ' Let's Invade 2'.

Zeroptian Invasion - 80's inspired Shoot em up hits Steam!


While many of you are still excited for Josyanf1 and Narehop's Alex Kidd in Miracle World remake which is still in development, you might be interested to know Josyanf1 has released an 80's inspired Shoot em up called ' Zeroptian Invasion ', which is available to buy on Steam and playable on a PC. This game as noted by the description, is a retro inspired game of pixelated graphics and banging chiptune melodies and takes us back to the golden years of Space Invaders, Galaga or Centipede.
