Restless Andre - A new ZX Spectrum game with 19 different levels

Moving away from the C64 and looking towards the ZX Spectrum for more 8bit enjoyment, as we've recently been informed by Saberman, that Jaime Grilo has released the English version of the Arcade style game of Restless Andre. Developed for the 48k and 128k(with music), made using AGDX and AGDMusicizer II, you play as André and must collect various types of gems scattered throughout various scenarios as he did not want to refuse a challenge.

Donkey Kong - Arcade classic now with a ZX Spectrum colour fix!

In the early 80's Nintendo released one of the most famous games of all time, and that game was ' Donkey Kong '. A game in which you played as Mario that had to avoid obstacles across a number of platforms, with sometimes a hammer in hand to save a damsel in distress from a giant barrel throwing ape called Donkey Kong. That same game which made an appearance as a port on a number different systems has now been given the colour treatment on the ZX Spectrum, as Rev Stuart Campbell wanted it to look more like the Arcade original.

Pipe Mania - A Puzzle game classic reviewed by DarkwyndPT

No, I’m not reviewing another game with two different versions or two different games, it’s actually the same game with two different titles, that’s all! And it’s one of the most ported and influential games of all times. Even if you don’t recognize the title, I assure you that at least you’ll find the gameplay familiar. I’m talking about Pipe Mania aka Pipe Dream.

Mage Rage - Upcoming Arcade Maze ZX game from Andy Green and John Davies

There's not much going on in the retro gaming scene today so to counteract the slowness, here's an upcoming game just announced by Andy Green, it's Mage Rage! A game that's in development for the ZX Spectrum by John Davies and Andy Green, and is classed as an enjoyable a top-down maze shooter developed with AGDx Mini that is set for release at some point during this month!

Jet Set Mixup and Jet Set Mini - Timeless ZX Spectrum classic redesigned with more variety

Many years ago in 1984, Matthew Smith with publishing rights by Software Projects released the all time classic game ' Jet Set Willy ' for the ZX Spectrum. It was a game that star'd none other than Miner Willy who was tasked by the housekeeper Maria with the cleaning up of items left around the house after a big party. But now after all this time good ol' Willy is back, but this time after appearing in a bug fixed edition and a nightmare edition, he's now appearing in two different variations Jet Set Mixup and Jet Set Mini!

2017 Retro Calendar by ChinnyVision.

Youtuber ChinnyVision, who specializes in reviewing games from the golden 8-bit generation, has produced a rather neat and tidy 2017 retro themed calendar. Featuring many of the 8-bit systems of the 80's, each month highlights a classic game such as Chase HQ or Bomb Jack 2, and how it looked on different formats of the day. As an Amstrad fan, Chinny gives the CPC a lot of coverage, but equally so to the Spectrum and Commodore, comparing screenshots side by side. Other systems pop up now and then such as the MSX, BBC Micro and C16. Wonderfully printed and clearly defined, this calendar is a must for retro gamers everywhere. For more information, watch my in-depth review of the product. Certainly makes counting the days a lot more interesting and fun.

Tennis Classics - Novabug takes a look at some retro sports classics!

One of, if not the oldest video game genre's stemming back to 1972's Pong, tennis games are rampant across all systems far and wide, good and bad. With 2016's Wimbledon tournament in full backhand swing, I take a look at several from the 8 and 16 bit eras, starting with the master of serve and volley Pete Sampras on the Sega Mega Drive. I also check the turf on the Spectrum and the Game Boy.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum: A visual compendium Book Review.

Bitmap Books is back! And this time it's the turn of the humble spectrum to get the Visual Compendium treatment. But can a printed book ever do justice to the little marvel and will it be another book to equal its predecessors?

Why the Speccy has never lost it's Mojo

Love affairs come and go, some endure and some flourish. The love affair with the zx spectrum has not only endured, it has flourished. Love it or loathe it ( i love it), the speccy is a huge part in computer and gaming history. Towdie - The classic Dizzy style game is back to impress with a kickstarter

Gamers rejoice! As Towdie is back for a new generation, and this time it's a remake with all new high end graphics. I was very excited when I saw this kickstarter, as Towdie was once home on the Spectrum in 1994 and closely matched by the art style and gameplay to that of Dizzy.  Just like Dizzy, there are specific characters and situations that must be solved by the way of collected items throughout the land. This land was called Alkria, and you play as the restless creature called Towdie on a quest to save the kingdom from the claws of the evil dragon Quido. Another interest with this kickstarter is, the company behind this game is none other than Ultrasoft who were no strangers to the Spectrum system. However they have changed the company name to Cyberdreams.

Games I remember with a remake - THRUST

I'll say it right now, Thrust was an incredibly fun game for such a low budget title. It was published by Firebird Software Ltd and released in 1986 and for what it didn't have in graphics, it excelled in the fun factor. Thrust came on many different systems including the Atari 2600, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, BBC Micro, Commodore 16, Plus/4, Commodore 64, Electron, Vectrex, and ZX Spectrum. I myself spent many hours of enjoyment plus frustration on my Amstrad CPC playing this game. The simple task of pulling out Klystron Pods, out and into space ended up with either, your ship pulling the pod into the side of a cave, or you smashing your ship into another object. But it had far more to it than that!

Sabre Wulf is back! It's remake time

It's currently 3am and this awesome remake by Space-time Games has just appeared, a game which many retro gamers of the Amstrad, C64 and Spectrum era would remember. This is Sabre Wulf developed and released by Ultimate Play The Game in 1984. You have to guide Sabreman through the maze of jungle pathways, searching for the four pieces of the Wulf amulet which will persuade the guardian of the cave to reveal the exit, but that won't be so easy!
