Now here's a blast from the past and a game that I remember as being one of the best action-adventure games I had ever played on the Amstrad CPC 464. It's 'Saboteur II' developed by Clive Townsend and released by Durell Software in 1987, the same publishers behind the incredible dragon flying 'Thanatos'. This fine game was released for many platforms such as the CPC, ZX Spectrum and C64, and featured a female protagonist who must break into a high-security compound, fight off guards, avoid pumas and alter the course of a nuclear ballistic missile and then escape on a motorbike.

If you're looking for a very cool game to play right now at home on your speccy, then we have just been told by Saberman through Facebook, that you can now play Packobilly's high quality ZX Spectrum game of 'Arlo'. A game that isn't just a platformer filled with dangerous enemies, but playing as an Alien called Arlo, that has landed on Earth, you must recover a series of objects that is of vital importance. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also done a video of the game being played.
Mutant Mushrooms - This Robotron style shooter looks great on the ZX Spectrum
Bit of a late hour news story from us at Indie Retro News, as thanks to Saberman contacting us through Facebook, he has told us that The Death Squad, has made available the rather cool looking Robotron style shooter for the ZX Spectrum called 'Mutant Mushrooms'. A game in which he came across, when he opened an old ZX Spectrum folder looking for some games after the delivery of the ZX Spectrum Next. Although he does state "There's a few more unfinished games in that folder I'll endeavor to finish and release at some point".
Abu Simbel Profanation Extended - Classic ZX Spectrum platformer ported to the C64 and extended in 2017/18 (Re-released via itch io?)
Savage Princess 2 - A Charmingly creepy platformer for the ZX Spectrum by Monsters Legs Productions goes FREE!
Once more the ZX Spectrum is getting a great game mention, as thanks to both Monsters Legs Productions and also our good friend Tez Rowlands contacting us just recently, we've been told you really should be checking out the action packed game of 'Savage Princess 2' for the ZX Spectrum. A game that isn't just your usual platformer, but it also has dark overtones filled with dripping acid/ooze and deadly enemies. Diana Cave Adventure - A new 48K AND 128K ZX SPECTRUM game with some lovely music by Sergey Kosov
While Oniric Factor has been know for releasing pretty decent MSX games throughout the years, such as Grey Wolf, Skull and Souls Keeper. This time however with a short demo tease, he's just announced the ZX Spectrum game of 'DIANA CAVE ADVENTURE'. A game according to the creator, isn't just a dedication to one of the daughters of Jorge, the programmer and graphic designer of the project. But Diana Cave Adventure was originally programmed for MSX computers and has been reprogrammed and extended to run on ZX SPECTRUM computers.
Mushroom Soup - A lovely albeit short ZX Spectrum game by Ottersoft
Good morning you fine retro gamers! Thanks to Saberman contacting us very early today, we've been told that Ottersoft has released the short but enjoyable arcade ZX Spectrum game of 'Mushroom Soup'. A game in which you play as a little goblin that is so hungry for soup, he's having to search dark and dangerous caves to gather all the mushrooms as the main ingredient. Phantomas Tales 4 Severin Sewers - A high quality remaster of the 2012 ZX Spectrum game by The Mojon Twins
If you don't have a Commodore Amiga, but you do have a ZX Spectrum, then we have just been informed through Twitter, that The Mojon Twins has released their latest ZX Spectrum game of 'Phantomas Tales 4 Severin Sewers'. An Arcade title which isn't just a high quality remaster of the 2012 ZX Spectrum game by The Mojon Twins, but also as a celebration commemorating the 25th and 26th anniversary of the character Phantomas. The Mandarin 2 - A new Star Wars action game now for the Amstrad CPC by Mananuk
If you're looking for a star wars game with plenty of action for your Amstrad CPC, then it might be worth checking out Mananuk's new game of ' The Mandarin 2 '; A game that not only features 5 levels of varying themes such as General Limoncello´s base, self-destruct activated, outer space and Limoncello's ship. Psyqo Santa - A late Christmas present for ZX Spectrum owners by IAMAI Creation
It's another fun looking game for today's retro gaming news story, as thanks to Saberman contacting us through Facebook, he has told us that IAMAI Creation has released a new action platformer for the ZX Spectrum called 'Psyqo Santa': A game in which you need to put a stop to an Evil Santa who has turned people into snowmen to keep them frozen from the truth. To coincide with this news, while there is a video of this release, the creator has shared some more info about the game below.
ZX Pac-Man Arcade - A ZX Spectrum version of Pac Man that is faithful to the Arcade!
There have been many Pac-Man games mentioned on Indie Retro News, from the Pac-Man Xtreme romhack, to Jr. Pac-Man on the Intellivision, which all vary in style to the 1980's hit classic that can still be found today sitting as a port beside an Atari 2600 ( or if you're lucky an original Arcade machine ). Well ZX owners are about to get in on the Arcade fun as thanks to a heads up by a good friend, we've been told that marco-leal-zx has released ZX Pac-Man Arcade : A ZX Spectrum version of Pac Man that is faithful to the Arcade!

Even though we were late in writing this one up as it was Christmas, we are pleased to inform our Indie Retro News readers that if you loved that classic Cartoon of Duck Tales, then you may also be interested to know that N10Team has released the ZX Spectrum game of 'Duck Tales - Family Comes First; the second game by N10Team based on a heavily modified Churrera 3.99.2 Engine by The Mojon Twins, which was also made to celebrate their love and passion for Speccy and Duck Tales.
Johnny The Ghost - Creepy goings on in this new ZX Spectrum game by Harald & Marcus Gitzel
Not content with all the Christmas games ( bah humbug ), then about a rather creepy ZX Spectrum that's been mentioned to us by Saberman called 'Johnny The Ghost ' by Harald & Marcus Gitzel. An arcade puzzle game in which playing as a Ghost, must traverse many difficult levels, while moving objects in a set way to collect each of the golden helmets. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided a video giving us a glimpse at many of the levels found in Johnny The Ghost.
The Mijadore Vase - A rather cool ZX Spectrum game from EdD
We were a bit late on this one but it's still worth a mention, as thanks to another heads up by Saberman who has just posted a gameplay video, he has told us that EdD has released the rather cool ZX Spectrum game of 'The Mijadore Vase' through itch io. A game in which you not only play as Milko Jones, an amateur fisherman more braggart than adventurer, but you must complete a quest to find a mysterious vase in the tombs of a small, half-buried pyramid.
Noon30 Shovel Duck - A new arcade platformer by io.rrwm for the ZX Spectrum
While the weather is still distinctly grim here in the UK with so much rain I might need a boat, there's one game that I'd recommend anyone who has a ZX Spectrum to pick up and play to pass the time, and it's io.rrwm's latest release of 'Noon30 Shovel Duck' for the ZX Spectrum. A colorful platformer as the creators first game designed using Jonathan Cauldwell's Multi-Platform Arcade Game Designer. To coincide with this news, Saberman has also provided a new video showing the game in action.
Arctic Atac Xmas - A fully modded Xmas version of Atic Atac for the ZX Spectrum
Ultimate Play the Game released many incredible titles in the 80's, games such as Knightlore, Jetpac, Sabre Wulf and Gunfright to name but a few. But today's news is something of a special announcement for fans of Ultimate Play the Game, as their top down arcade adventure game ' Atic Atac ' released in 83 of which we have featured many times before, has now been re-released as a fully modded Xmas version of Atic Atac! A Christmas gift by highriser which can be seen being played in this video provided by Saberman.
Isa Brave - Another glorious ZX Spectrum game for your weekend entertainment!
With all the games I've featured you'd think the news would slow down, but not so! As after already featuring a lot of games this week and into the weekend along comes the ZX Spectrum game of Isa Brave' by tomasiano74 to keep you entertained. An arcade puzzle game in which you must explore dangerous ruins that may have gone untouched by any human for centuries. The Bark - A ZX Spectrum game mod of The Dark Lost Pages by (Oleg Origin)/ZOSYA entertainment
In 2021 we featured a stunning remaster of a classic game called 'The Dark'; A game originally developed by Oleg Origin back in 1997, which at the time we said was a rather unique ZX Spectrum first person shooter, that has similarities to the retro PC game of Quake. Well if you had played the game and The Dark: Lost Pages Redux by ZOSYA entertainment, then as of today you can play the newest of releases for the ZX Spectrum called The Bark: A game mod of The Dark Lost Pages which is featured in this video below.
